Angle is the best. I have an old guitar that needed some TLC so that I could start taking lessons. He was very patient and explained everything to me. He replaced the strings with appropriate ones explaining the differences. He then tuned and cleaned it. I was hesitant to go to the store as I'm a novice but Angle was so kind (you can tell he loves his job). I quickly felt welcome and comfortable. Would definitely return for repairs and to buy a new guitar when the time comes. read more

I went in expecting a dedicated pro audio section like in other GCs that I've been to but only found a handful options and none of them quite what I was looking for, specifically a mixer for live use with in ear monitors. I asked the saleswoman there if they had what I was looking for and after saying I didn't see it with the rest of the mixers and MIDI controllers was told that I would have to "Just go find it at another location." I understand it's a smaller store and they won't have everything they'd have at a larger store like in DTLA but there's no need to be snippy. So you know what, snippy saleswoman whose name I forget? Selection is pretty limited across the board for almost any large product you want/need. Staff is extraordinarily under supervised and uneducated while remaining completely apathetic to the needs of the customers. There are however a couple associates who seem to care and genuinely want to be of service, but appears that they do not receive the training or support they need to accomplish this goal. All in all I would say steer clear of this specific location unless you know exactly what you need and won't require the assistance of the staff. On December 26, 2017 I went into my local Guitar Center to have them look at my new Gretsch guitar. I have to say that I did not purchase the guitar at a Guitar Center. The guitar had a buzz to it. I met Angel who was stringing a guitar at the time. I explained to him the problems I was having with my new guitar. Angel was so nice he looked at it and made several adjustments and even tuned my guitar for me. He played it to ensure the buzz was gone. Just like that it was fixed. Angel was so cool thought out my whole experience with him. 100% customer service from Angel. Super great employee. read more

After extensively researching a turn table, we made the decision to buy it here rather than Amazon in an effort to support local businesses. It was a pretty unfortunate mistake. Although store personnel tried to assist, they were disorganized and the process of ordering it took far longer than it should have. Between the turn table and the speakers, we were spending about $700, and it would have been nice to have some focused attention, but other customers with quicker transactions were allowed to go ahead of us while we waited. After an hour, we paid and left and were told that it would arrive in store in 3-5 days. We waited 5 before getting in touch with the store as we hadn't heard from anyone. Turns out they allowed us to order a system that they don't even sell anymore. They refunded our money, which will take who knows how long to hit our bank. Went to Best Buy and bought exactly what Guitar Center couldn't deliver on the spot. Too bad. read more

The sales associates and techs are very kind and helpful. The manager has no difficulty wasting customer time and letting the associates and techs take the heat. I have a Taylor NS42 that is buzzing horrendously when a capo is applied to the 2nd fret. Taylor's customer service says that an authorized dealer will ship the guitar to their El Cajon facility for assessment and repair. This store is listed on Taylor's website as an authorized dealer. I called ahead and was told by an associate at this store that they would ship my guitar. I brought the guitar to the store. Now that I'm in the store, the manager says (through an associate - the manager never actually walks out to talk to people) that before they will ship the guitar to Taylor, their techs have to look it over first and see if they can determine the problem. I replied that if they could find and fix the problem, that would be great! The manager said that, if the techs couldn't find the problem, then they would ship it to Taylor. Excellent! The next day I talk to the techs...they can't find the problem. So they're going to ship...? NO!!!! The unseen manager now claims that because the guitar is 10 years old, they won't ship it to Taylor. I had to make the drive back to the store to pick up the guitar that day because the manager wouldn't do what he said he would do the day before - which is why I drove out then. In the store picking up my guitar, the tech was all apologies. "Why didn't the manager mention the 10-year rule when I called or when I brought the guitar in yesterday?", I asked. Tech: "I'm sorry, man." Me: "And what does 10-years have to do with anything? Why won't you ship a 10-year old guitar!?" Tech: "I'm really sorry." No reason. Just, "The manager says we're not going to do what we said we would do." 6/19/2017 UPDATE (Sherman Oaks): After the kind response of Beau from Guitar Center (see below), I thought perhaps the Stevenson Ranch store had management issues and I should try a more established store. So I called Sherman Oaks on 6/13. The tech said, "Sure", they would ship my guitar to Taylor for me. The tech was very casual about it and kind of reacted to my continually asking, "Really? You will?". "Yes. We will." was his reply. So on 6/14 I took my Taylor in to the Sherman Oaks store. They gave me a receipt that says "Send to Taylor" right on it. I thought, "Well, it's gonna to happen now." I get back to my office. Guitar Center Sherman Oaks calls me about 20 minutes later to say, "We don't do that. We won't ship your guitar to Taylor." Fool me twice...shame on me. I wrote to Beau and asked if he could help. That resulted in a call from the Sherman Oaks store on 6/15 to ask how we could resolve this matter to my satisfaction. We ended the call with her saying that she would find out what could be done and that she would get back to me. As of 6/19 no response. I called and asked what the status was. No one could tell me. So I've retrieved my guitar, opened my own ticket with Taylor and will ship the guitar myself. THE TAKE AWAY: Taylor Support says that authorized Guitar Centers, like Stevenson Ranch and Sherman Oaks, will open a support ticket with Taylor and ship your guitar to the Taylor El Cajon factory for service and repair. GUITAR CENTER WILL NOT DO THIS!!! Guitar Center will, however, tell you over the phone that they will do this and even print it on your receipt - then call you up after you drop the guitar off to tell you that they won't. This happened to me twice. DON'T CALL GUITAR CENTER TO ASK IF THEY WILL DO THIS - THEY WON'T, EVEN IF TAYLOR SAYS THEY WILL....EVEN IF GUITAR CENTER SAYS THEY WILL... they won't. read more

I know a lot of people like to trash GC, but I have actually had very good experiences with GC online and instore at multiple locations. And then there is this store. There are reasons that while this store is closest to my home I choose to drive to any of 4 other locations within an hour of me to shop. Putting aside the fact that the selection at this location is minimal at best, the real issue is their non-existent customer service. Every employee here looks like they hate their job and the last thing they want to do is help you, even though you are likely to be the only customer in the store. This week I had a guitar I purchased online delivered to the store. I thought, I just need to pickup, what could go wrong? Apparently, lots! The guitar was delivered and signed for at 10:15am Tuesday. So how long did it take for them to log and release my guitar? 2 1/2 days! And that was after 4 calls to the store and 2 calls to GC customer service inquiring as to what was the hold up. Every time I called the store the same girl told me "Oh, yes we have your guitar, but we haven't had time to process it yet." What?! Every other time I have had an item delivered to another GC location it took an average of 2-4 hours to receive a notice that I could pick up my item. I had to call GC customer service twice to ask them to call the store to get them off their butt and do their job. While I was on the second call with GC customer service, they put me on hold to call the store and ten minutes later I miraculously received an email that my item was ready for pickup. See, how hard was that?! I asked the GC rep what the hold up was and was told "Oh, they actually only received the delivery today." LIE! I had already spoken to the store four times and they confirmed they received it Tuesday morning (UPS delivery info confirms this as well with the name of the person who signed for it). I told the GC rep that was a lie and it was super insulting, and the rep was all sheepish and apologized and said "um, I misspoke." What the hell? When I went to pick up the guitar the store was completely disorganized with crap all over and the GC employees were their usual miserable selves. Only one other customer in the store, yet I couldn't even get a smile or friendly greeting, etc. I will never go to this location ever again and will think twice about shopping at GC at all. read more

I went into Guitar Center today and was lucky enough to have Angel there to assist me! (I read the Yelp comment about how wonderful he was and was hoping Angel would be working and he WAS!) He explained to me that putting nylon strings on my steel string guitar would be OK but not ideal. He recommended a different type of steel string (softer and not as wide) that would make it easier for me to press. He did say that I did need to build up callouses on my fingers regardless. Not only did he change the strings, but, he patiently showed ME how to change the strings since I should be changing them regularly. That was going above and beyond in my book since there were other customers in the store. He also lowered the strings (forgot what the term was) to help me be able to press down on the strings a little easier. He checked my finger placement and shared that I should be applying even pressure on the front (strings) and with my thumb on the neck. I bought a strap and he had some good recommendations for one. He even took time to size up the strap to my body! In the 20 minutes I was there, he filled every second with good information and EXCELLENT service! Oh! I mentioned that I was interested in purchasing a second guitar since I am a beginner and bought an inexpensive one (in case I lost interest) and he shared his knowledge and expertise about that topic, too! He stressed that in the end, I need to like the "feel" of the particulate guitar so he recommended that I play several in my price range. He even helped a young man with some chords to a Tom Petty song while he was showing me a guitar! Even though I basically live in the South Bay, I will make a trip to my house in Valencia just to have Angel's great service! Keep up the great work, Angel! I browsed the reviews and was surprised to see that people could not get help. Did you run from them? I have no trouble getting help from the guys there, and they are some of the friendliest and most knowledgeable sales associates I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Do they play the instruments? Yes. Should they? Of course. These guys have decades of experience among them, and although there are a zillion model names to remember (try remembering the Martin catalogue alone), these guys can play a guitar and let you hear it sing. If you're a newer guitar player and feel self-conscious, this is a good strategy, or they might play it in a way you won't be able to play for years. And, wouldn't it be just a little bit torturous to hire a bunch of skilled guitar players and not let them play? Yes. As an artist, I used to sell art supplies....so I could talk not just about tools but technique too. My customers appreciated that immensely, but I digress. I've been on the quest to find that 'just right' guitar, and though I'm still a neophyte, the guys have helped me insomuch as I've involved Guitar Center. I also bought some guitars online after intensive research (and returned them). The guys at GC were more than willing to let me play a guitar, plug it into an amp (this has been my biggest issue with acoustic/electrics), have given me their own opinions and have generally been nothing but kind and helpful. This is a teeny little Guitar Center. A baby Guitar Center! But I'm a long-time GC fan and have spent thousands at this retail chain. I'm happy to keep my local baby GC in business, especially because it's a rare treat to be able to play a guitar in person before taking it home--something I can't do with the online retailers. It's also nice not to have to box up and mail a return to some far-flung state. That said, I tried two guitars from Guitar Center here before finding a guitar I adore--a Martin 000X1AE Custom. $599, and I have my first Martin with that 'Martin' sound! Of course for consumables, GC can't be beat; strings, picks, capos, etc. I bought my Beyerdynamic headphones here too, and I love 'em. I gotta say, this is a great store with some of the best people. If you're finding issues with them, it's probably YOU. :D Can't beat that 45-day return policy either, and the after-the-fact discounts are great if you happen to find a GC coupon or sale within your 45-day return period. They also price-match legitimate dealers, so it's kind of the best of all worlds. Yes, there will be times that present a challenge or the odd bad apple, but I have nothing but good things to say about GC, especially my local 'baby' GC in Stevenson Ranch. :D read more

I have been playing guitar, bass, and drums for 14 years now and have purchased several instruments from Guitar Centers in San Marcos, Murrieta, Riverside, and Rancho Cucamonga. I can honestly and faithfully say I have never experienced the level of customer service that I have been shown by Chris, Sara, and the rest of the crew at this location. I have purchased 3 guitars, and an amp and was shown the same great service whether spending $10 or $2000. They are also more than fair on trade ins and have a nice stock of used and vintage gear to look at. Chris has always given great advice when I have questions and is super quick to call back when left a message. What a shame :( I really want to love this place but the service is so poor. The assistant manager is always in a foul mood. I don't think I've ever seen him smile. Sara (the old manager) was great but she's gone. Brennan (the old assistant mgr) was awesome but he's gone as well. There are a few good people here but they are very few and far between. I have literally spent thousands of dollars at GC and I still can't get anyone to help me. I don't get it! Competition is fierce and with service this poor it's amazing they can keep this store open. Guess that's the luxury of being the only game in town. I recently went in looking to drop a grand on an multi-effects pedal for my guitar, some powered studio monitors and a mixing board. Noone asked if I needed help. After 15 mins I gave up. I went home and fired off an inquiry to Sweetwater. Within 10 minutes I had a reply which was followed by a phone call. And just like that, I took my money elsewhere. GC just lost a good Customer. And all my future business will be going to that Sweet place in Indiana. True story - I was in GC about 2 weeks ago buying some guitar strings when this dad walks in with his son who looked like he was about 12 yrs old. They had brought a guitar in with them. Turns out it was the kid's first guitar and it needed a little work. The guitar tech was standing right there but said "I'm off" and walked away. Are you kidding me? Here's a kid who's super excited to have received his first guitar and you blow him off like that?! Wow, nice. All it would have taken was 30 seconds for the tech to look at it and let the father and son know that they should leave it there for a thorough inspection. How about assuring that kid that his guitar would be in good hands and that you'd take care of it for him? How about encouraging his enthusiasm rather than telling him to piss off? Unbelievable. There's a reason I won't take my guitars here. Such a shame. I loved GC as a kid. It was my candy store. Sadly, the candy's gotten rotten :( read more

This Guitar center has terrible service. I took in my telecaster to see if I could find a tone knob for it and one of the employees forcefully tried to put one on that didn't fit and in doing so he broke the tone pot. He said that it wasn't his fault and that all he could do was give me another tone pot for half price. I even talked to the manager and he was a total dick about it saying that I told him to put it on my tele when I only asked if there was a knob that would fit on the pot. They also said that it would be full price for them to install it when they are the ones that broke it! Unbelievable service. If you want something, go look on Reverb.com they have better prices and service! Never shopping at this guitar center again. read more

I always visit Guitar center for all my audio and drum needs. I've lived in Santa Clarita area for many years. I was so happy when i found out Guitar Center was coming to Santa Clarita many years ago. I wanted to give a 5 star rating because I love them so much. However, the Stevenson Ranch location does not always have what I need in stock. Multiple times I have had trouble finding the right drum heads I need. My last visit to this location I was looking for a E-cymbal cord for my Roland TD-11. The customer service rep tried hard to find one but in the end, I had to look elsewhere. If you need something specific, you may have to go to one of their bigger stores in Sherman Oaks or Pasadena. read more

As someone that has spent THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of dollars at Guitar Centers across the country not only from living in different areas such as GA, FL, TX, and now CA, but also touring in bands and having to stop in different GCs in whatever town we were playing on any given day I can honestly say that this Guitar Center in Stevenson's Ranch is by far the worst I've ever been in. It wasn't just one bad experience there....it's been several and after yesterday I am done with GC and will doing all my future business with Sweetwater. I went in yesterday to buy some recording software and equipment. There were a few other customers in there at the time but not many. As usual, I waited and waited for a staff member to come over and ask to assist me which didn't happen. After about 15 minutes I finally went over and asked a staffer to come help me. As I get into my questions and what I'm wanting to accomplish, the staff guy is doing his best to answer my questions and then the guy who I had thought from previous visits there was the store manager came over and interrupted what he was explaining to me to tell him that he needed to see him when he was finished helping me. I thought that was kind of rude. Anyway, we continue and about 3 minutes later the same "manager" comes over again and stands there with his hands on his hips staring for about another 60 seconds then interrupts us again saying "I need to see you right now" and they walked off just leaving me standing there in awe. Another staff member was close by and overheard this go down and asked if he could help me to which I told him that was the most unprofessional thing I had ever seen and that I would be going elsewhere to get what I needed. He turned and walked off without saying another thing so I left and went to a Pet store next door to pick up things I needed there. The whole time I'm in there I get madder and madder and decide I'm going to go back in GC and ask for contact information for a corporate manager. A different staff person asked me what I wanted and when i told him I needed contact information for a manager over the one that had just offended me and pointed out the guy he said let me get you the store manager. I told him that I was under the impression that the guy that offended me was the store manager and he told me that guy was the Customer Service Manager which really angered me even more. Then when he pages out the store manager, out comes the other guy who had witnessed the whole thing and let me walk out thinking the other guy was the store manager nor offering to apologize or offer to help me further. I called him out on it to saying " I can't believe you let me walk out of here a bit ago thinking the other guy was the manager" and he replied with, "I was just letting you cool down." That was BS because I wasn't hot headed or being loud or making a scene the first time....I was in shock and disbelief that had just happened. Anyway, that store is a complete joke and almost every time I have been in there has been an unpleasant experience. I highly recommend finding another place to find your music gear other than this branch of GC. It is already a tiny store with very little choices to begin with and when you add in the horrid customer service....just not worth it. read more

I've been playing guitar for over 50 years & have bought from a bunch of shops around the country, including several Guitar Centers. Never had a problem in Hollywood, Northridge or Sherman Oaks. Stevenson's Ranch? Problems. Always a customer service issue. I brought a double-neck Epiphone electric in for a pro setup by it had a fret buzz at the 3rd fret on the 6th string of the six-string neck & slightly high action. It was still under warranty, so I was told they needed to get the okay from Gibson, which usually took about a week. Ok, great. One week, two weeks and FOUR weeks later, I was told Gibson had not responded. The tech just said he'd email again, to which I responded that that had not worked so far, and asked for the number for Gibson and GC corporate. Suddenly, I was told that he would call them & get back to me. Within the hour, I got a call saying Gibson had approved the work, & it would take about a week to get it done. Ok. I was there a week later, & the guitar looked great & I started to play it to confirm the playability. The tech told me "the only thing is, it has a buzz on the 6-string neck, 1st string, above the 12th fret. I was floored & came slightly unglued, saying that he'd fixed one buzz and caused a worse one. Another week goes by, & finally, everything was fine. 5 weeks is way too long and the level of work was low, so I haven't and will not return for any tech service. My next beef, which led me to post this review, was more managerial attitude. I've sold guitars online for years, & have always been able to relieve shops of their shipping boxes to use when I needed to ship one. Normally, they're happy to not have to break down the boxes, & I get a shipping box. Win-win. Last week, I called & spoke to a young lady who was very polite and professional. She confirmed they had a few boxes but she needed to check with her operations manager. He said no. He needed them. Really? 'Cause they receive shipping, but don't ship from the store--that's done by the warehouse. I thanked the young lady for her kindness, & asked her to let the manager know I would not be buying anymore accessories, strings, etc. since there are local stores that tend to cater to their customers. read more

This place absolutely sucks. I went in looking for a specific item, and at first I was told the item in question "...does not exist.". After pulling it up on my smart phone at amazon.com and showing the inexperienced, minimum wage earner of a sales person, he proceeded to tell me they had that item online only, but what I REALLY needed was something entirely different, and considerably more expensive. This is how my overall experience went. No matter what I asked about, he wanted to "UPSELL" me. Even on guitar picks...A place like this should have a jar of picks on the counter with their name and phone number printed on them, as a freebie for customers (just my humble opinion), But the minimum on picks was a $6. assortment of them... I checked the local pawn shops to no avail.then one guy from a pawn shop told me that guitar center buys used guitars.so I called them gave them the serial number.well what would you think .they purchased it and then they sold it. I told them I reported to the police send them a copy of the report.they told me they would get be to me.never did meantime called the police again and told them what happened the police said they would check on it heard nothing.waited and waited.time went by called guitar center again and asked about my guitar again and they told me that they purchased the guitar again and sold it again,not once but twice. All of the employees at this location should be commend for their customer service. I needed a specific guitar hard case, I went in and ordered the wrong item which was to ship the next day. Once home found out what I had done, I called the store they canceled the order and refunded my CC. No questions asked. Once I found the exact case I wanted I call them back and got it ordered. Problem was I needed it within 3 days of the order as I was leaving for a trip to Hawaii. They offered free shipping of the case to Hawaii if it failed to show up on time. I purchased 4 chauvet intimidator spot 155 from guitarcenter.com the Hollywood ,Sherman Oaks, Northridge Guitar Centers couldn't help me set up my lights but Carlos at Stevenson Ranch walk me right through how to set them up you don't have to be a master lighting Tech but you have to be great at your job and Carlos is definitely got great customer service and great attitude not like some of the other people i spoke with thanks Carlos for your help. read more

I spent a combined total of about $1000 in this store this month. The staff had been friendly and helpful and I trusted them. However, today I purchased a digital piano and the box they gave me looked unopened. When I got home, after driving in Labor Day traffic, I find that it was an opened box. The power supply was missing and there were bags remaining wadded up inside. Probably from the power supply that was missing. The store was happy to replace it with a new unopened box, thankfully. I asked them how they can tell if it's unopened or not and they replied that it is hard to tell. I expressed great disappointment that they would sell me an open box product without telling me. Most retailers offer discounts on open boxes and still guarantee they're complete. Here not only was it not complete or discounted, but it wasn't even disclosed. I will no longer trust this store and instead of supporting this brick and mortar I'll sooner trust Amazon. Cost me an extra 2 hours of my evening and they won't even admit that they knowingly sold me an open box. They certainly did a good job repackaging it and I'm sure they know what has been opened and returned when they sell me a product. read more
