The customer service has really gone down hill, 2 weeks ago I was in the Broadway location in Tucson and I wanted to purchase a Peavey Mixer XR AT, the sales associate told me they didn't sell Peavey any more, I told him that was crap because I saw the mixer on Guitar center website, he attempted to push something else on me so I left, today I contact them to discuss a Monster guitar cable that I purchased from them that has a lifetime warranty and now has a short and the audio guy tells me they no longer honor the warranty since they make there own brand, he says I should have purchased one of there brand, so I'm out a cable and a warranty and I got free lip service from the audio sales guy. Let's face it, rock musicians get a bad rap. Sex, drugs, trashed hotel rooms, and rock 'n roll, right? As a musician myself, I try to give the folks who work at Guitar Center a bit of slack, but it always seems to come back and hit me in the face like a snapped E string. (Owww!) Unfortunately, the vibe at Guitar Center reminds me of backstage at the tryouts for "Guitar Idol." I can understand wanting to try out an axe before you take it home, but if I could post a sign that says "PLAY 'STAIRWAY' AND YOU WILL BE SHOT ON SITE,(*)", I totally would. Call me old and grumpy, but I'm tempted to run through the shop with a pair of scissors, a case of deodorant, and some REAL sheet music. Hearing yourself think? Good luck with that! The customer service is poor to nonexistent. If you were to stand at a car lot and ponder your options, you would immediately be pounced upon by someone wanting to make a commission. Here, you can seriously examine their guitars with no employees in sight. It's lovely if you want to ponder in peace, but if you're actually interested in spending money, you'll first have to wander the store to figure out who actually works there (a feat in itself) and then pry them away from their groupies. On top of that, the prices are nothing to write home about. If you sign up for their mailing list, you'll catch an occasional coupon or sale on a very particular model, or maybe minor bobbles like amp cords and guitar strings will be on sale, but you will pay FAR less for your instrument elsewhere. Overall, I'll stop by Guitar Center to pick up strings (though not so often anymore now that Best Buy actually carries my favorite Ernie Ball slinkies, go figure) or to play-test something I've had my eye on. Otherwise, I'm probably better off cranking up my little brother's obnoxious music and drinking until my head starts pounding.(**) (*) Yes, it is bad to shoot people. Unless they're drummers who can't keep up with your tempo, in which case, it's perfectly fine to shoot at their feet. (**) Granted, the pounding in my head is likely to have a better sense of rhythm than a drummer. read more

This is a Guitar Center location. You know what to expect. Guitar center exists to sell beginner gear to people who don't know any better. You will be hounded by young employees who depend on sales to hopefully make commission and bump up above minimum wage for the month. They will attempt to talk you into sub par gear just to make a sale. The knowledge level of the employees is generally pretty low. Avoid, unless you need to get gear on a time constraint and can't wait to order online. There is really no reason to shop here when Rainbow Guitars exists. read more

This store is a chain but hey they have a huge stock compared to local stores. I bought a keyboard controller here. The sales people are really sales-ish, but I guess they are supposed to be. They were also very enthusiastic about what they were selling, and I later found out a lot of what they told me was decent advice. read more

Before you buy anything in this store make sure that you stop at the entrance and read all the policy that they have at the door. That's what I was told by the customer service manager. Wow. Horrible customer service. No one greets you when you walk in. It was slow and 5 guys standing around. Not one of them greeted us. Ridiculous!!! This wasn't the first time this has happened. I would have went to rainbow guitars but they are closed on Mondays. I don't think we will give guitar center our business again. It doesn't seem like they wanted it anyways. If you want the business you should greet your customers and be helpful. I work in retail and I greet all my customers with a hello as if it were my home. Guitar center sucks - let's face it. They treat you like crap, the staff has zero knowledge about anything, and they carry crappy mainstream equipement. Having said that, they are open when the local stores are closed - so you can buy strings. Just be prepared to haggle for every darn thing there. Yah, I hate Guitar Center, as does every working experienced musician I know, but hey, if you are 13 years old and your mommy wants to buy you a 'package' - they will swarm all over you. Ha ha ha... After going to a couple of Bookmans, Super Pawn, The Chicago store and a few more shops, I was almost giving up when I came looking for weighted keyboards at the Guitar Center. I was surprised to find that the Guitar Center had a good collection of weighted keyboards. I was pretty confused about which one to buy because I am just starting to learn classical music, luckily there was this really nice sales guy who showed me the difference between the different keyboards and also gave me a very good price on the keyboard and the stand. He also helped me load everything in my car and told me if there are any issue with the instrument I should come back and talk to him. Overall it was a very pleasant experience and I should have just come to the Guitar Center before traipsing all over Tucson looking for the right keyboard. read more

I went in to Guitar Center on Broadway to look at an electronic drum kit. There were about half a dozen kits, set up really badly, drums at weird angles, pads unplugged - pretty much unplayable. I went into the drum room to see about this, and the customer service person was on the phone. I waited. He did not acknowledge me. Three other customers came in, wanting his attention. He ignored all of us, never looking up from his call. I left after about 15 minutes of being completely ignored, and ordered a kit from Musician's Friend online. read more

I have always received great service here. The people working here are extremely knowledgeable about their section. (I've only dealt with the percussion section) I also really like their return policy, one time I bought a cajon drum for about 180 bucks and had it for about 1 month and was able to return it for a full refund. Their prices on used and new instruments are pretty good as well. Its actually better than the surrounding area in my opinion and their online prices are competitive with other websites. It is also a nice feature for them to ship to your store so you save the money on shipping. I will always visit guitar center to check out the latest deals or at least receive expert advice. read more

Even though Guitar Center is a retail chain and has a mixed reputation among the musical elite, I find that this one is great. The salespeople at the guitar section and the accessory section were extremely nice and helpful both times I've gone and the store is always in order. People complain about elitist employees who ridicule novice players at these types of stores, but none of that happens here. The prices are a mixed bag. You can get some really, really good deals here, but they also have things that can be found for a lower price elsewhere. I won't complain though. I'd rather pay a few more dollars and find everything under one roof rather than having to go from store to store to pinch pennies. All in all, this is a great place to try out instruments. They let you pick any guitar up, plug it in, and play it. Just trying the guitars makes it such a fun experience. These last two times I've tried a few guitars I've had my eye on, gotten the accessories I actually came to buy, and then left. Everything has gone off without a hitch. I definitely know that when I'm ready to upgrade to a better guitar, this is the first place I'm going to go to. read more

Great service! Knowledgeable, patient, and active listening. All great qualities in a technical world where most of us don't know much more about the equipment than simply turning it on and off. Gilbert took the time to work with me on getting the correct hook-ups for my home studio rig, despite the fact that I hadn't purchased most of the equipment from Guitar Center (another story altogether). His candor about what items I needed, what quality level, and other suggestions were all much appreciated. Great job guys! read more

I was in the Tucson area and I needed to get a few drum heads I walked in to the store and I noticed there was hardly any employees working I saw 1 girl at the counter and she didn't look happy to be there ( I give her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe having a bad morning ) I went in to the drum dept to get my heads. And couldn't really find what I was looking for. And then I realized I was alone in there. Not a single soul and again no employees. If I was a thief. I could of stolen all kinds of small things and no one would of known...I was getting peeved because I couldn't find what I needed and no one to help me I had to walk back to the guitar counter and asked the girl to help me..she said I don't know anything about drums. Then pawned me off on some long haired kid who pretty much didn't help me either and began looking for it on their computer...after waiting several minutes. He said. Sorry Dude Don't Have It Then I walked Back To The drum room and found A comperable head To use... I asked the girl If they had A drum guy working There and she said he doesn't get here till 3 I only bought my stuff there because I was in a jam...I hate shopping at Guitar Center these days because no one seems to be knowledgeable about what they are selling in the store. You have to wait around forever for someone to help you let alone talk to you and offer customer service and the employees act like they can't be bothered to help you if you are not buying something ...again I try to be positive only to be yet again disappointed by another store. won't be going there again read more

This Guitar Center absolutely does not deserve your business. I was trying to spend close to $1000 there. The manager, Ivan, was happy to say no. I needed a co-signer for financing options. He couldn't even take the time to put down the guitar he was playing on to talk to me. He said there is no way without the co-signer being in the store. And just shut it down immediately. Never once mentioned I could apply online and use a Co-signer. I would recommend going to the north store on River and never giving this facility your money. This manager has no business being there if he can't even take the time away from his guitar playing to help a person make their three year old the happy new owner of an electronic drum set. OK chain Just don't fall prey to their newer fixed pricing scheme. You can always wheel and deal a better price. Markups are huge on EVERYTHING except some top notch recording gear. If you aren't getting AT LEAST 35% off list you're being screwed. read more

Tonight I called Guitar center and asked about an electric bass. I told the I'd be right down. There I asked where the bass's were. I was told the Rumble room. I was in the Rumble room for 10-15 minutes. I was also interested in recording equipment. The net of the evening was I was in the store for at least over half an hour. There were 3-4 customers and it looked like no one was being helped. There were 5 or 6 salesperson standing around behind the counters. I was ready to buy, but will buy my bass and recording from another store, not Guitar Center. I have bought 3 guitars for them. The last one in 2016. I will never shop there again. I walked out and no one said thanks, have a nice day, can I help you, or go to hell, nothing. read more

On Sunday 11-26-17 I went in to buy a simple set of strings. They were not on hand and needed to be ordered. In putting in my order and the clerk stopped one time to service and ring out another person. The clerk started my order a second time then stopped, helped and, rung out a second party; then helped and rung out a third party while I stood waiting. When I protested that my order was quick simple and I was there first, the customer service representative said " oh I'm so sorry" as if I had told him there was lint on the floor. It was clear no one cared nor was my patronage valued. I suppose if you only want a small item you are not worth their time. When my strings arrive it will be the last trip I ever take to this establishment. read more

Terrible service. Employees not helpful at all. Just wanted a string put on an inexpensive guitar. They were rude about it. And refused to do it. Seems my guitar was too inexpensive for them. Sorry I'm not a rich guy. I can't remember being treated so poorly in any kind of Tucson store . I'll never go ack! read more
