I had considered sending my flute through the mail to Spencer, who had worked on it in the past, but I wasn't sure I wanted to pay the extra $200 for shipping and insurance. Eli, who answered my questions over the phone, was kind and helpful and told me that the Instrumental Music Center performs free assessments. So, I drove the 50 minutes to meet Amber, another kind and helpful employee, and James Gunn, the flute technician. James listened to my concerns and went above and beyond explaining pads, oiling, adjusting, time frame, cost, etc. to me. I am grateful I met James and now feel safe having him work on my flute, as not only is he skilled but also sensitive to my feelings. I was emotional as I left, filled with gratitude.

Today, after what's seems like an…read moreeternity, just out of the blue I made an appointment to go see Stefin Gordon at Rainbow and check out their huge selection of high end acoustic guitars. I've been a longtime customer of Rainbow, but my career as an ER nurse had kept me insanely busy over the course of the pandemic. Even after it was over, I was so burned out emotionally, I just couldn't even reach for my guitar. So today, ironically, something just told me, it was time. I called and spoke briefly to Stefin and said that I was looking forward to seeing everyone again, including my old buddy Scott Riedle. Once I arrived, Stefin told me the terrible news of Scott's passing. It really hit me cause I had come to know Scott as someone I would regard as a friend. I feel so bad cause I was so caught up in the pandemic and all it's horrors I never even knew Scott was ill. We chatted about him, of course and then explored my next purchase. It was, despite learning of Scott's passing a delightful experience as always and I look forward to seeing Stefin and the others again very soon. Once I got home I looked up Scott's information and I come to realize that he passed away a year ago. Who knows, maybe Scott was giving me a kick in the butt from the other side, saying "come on man, start playing again!" Regardless, that's how I'm going to interpret this coincidence. I'll be getting a new guitar from your friends soon Scott, and I'll be thinking about you when I play., Miss ya buddy!

The owner/operator, "Rick," seemed very knowledgeable so I asked him to do a set-up on my Anderson "Crowdster II." Sweet! So then I shuffled off my 20-year-old ES-335 to him that needed the action adjusted and pickups balanced. Sounds sweet and balanced now and plays like a dream. Finally, I had a slight intonation problem on my Martin 000-28 so I asked Rick if JFL would fix that which he did with a little bridge work and a neck adjustment. The intonation is near perfect now and the action plays great. As far as I could tell, I don't think JFL has the capabilities to do things like a neck reset but if you need a quick turnaround on a set-up, a fret job, etc, and don't want to mess it up, give JFL a call!! I couldnt wait to try it out. When i got home, i played for about and hour and the difference with the new type of strings was incredible. Mike was extremely helpful and put the new strings on within an hour. I have always had great service from Chicago Music Store and will continue to go there for all my music needs. Thank you !!!

It is a BEAUTIFUL PLACE that caters to all things music, instruments, tools amps, just a breath taking array of musical instruments to create magic. Almost inspired me to hang on to aforementioned mandolin. But I sold it to them so that it would end up in the proper set of hands. While there I chatted with the owner and his assistants who were friendly, extremely knowledgeable and clearly in tune with musicians. They will find it a good home. If you are in the southern Arizona area, don't hesitate to get in touch with him. I brought my rare vintage Fender guitar to him for a re-fret. I asked for stainless steel frets, which require much more time and effort to replace. The new frets were beautifully done--filed, shaped and dressed perfectly. The original Rosewood fretboard was filled, cleaned, sanded smooth and shaped to the correct radius, with no chip-out or glue evident. He even filled in a small divot on the fretboard, and didn't charge extra for it. The new nut he made was immaculately carved and filed. The guitar plays wonderfully and looks as if it never had a re-fret job. I'm pretty certain this is all anyone could wish for when it comes to repair work such as this. Communication was great, and pricing is fair. Highly recommended.

I took my 2 Favorite Acoustic Guitars, that were unplayable to Gordon Groves, for Repair, as my…read morebrother had also taken a Guitar previously to be repaired. One was a CF Mountain W400D that was messed up in a flood and dried out the other was a Martin D41 that was dried out from being in storage for a long duration of time. Gordon had them for a couple of weeks as he had to re-hydrate both Guitars. Both Guitars also had issues with cracks on the top where the seam was. The Mountain had a warped top and the Martin had the back binding separate from the back of the Guitar. The time to me was no great deal as I did not need them immediately and I wanted them repaired correctly. Gordon performed an AWESOME Repair on both Guitars and what looked horrible and would not play before, Look, Play and Sound Great. I highly recommend Gordon Groves for his Excellence in Guitar Repair.
