Went Gulf Val online for an oil change on 6/12/23 on my VW Taos. Workers started changing my oil as soon as I pulled in. I was in and out in about 20 minutes. I drove home and my oil light and warning light came on. My husband checked and it said too much oil was in my engine so he put it on blocks because I did not think it was a good idea to take it back because It appears they did not know what they were doing. I'm glad I did not take it back because we would never have seen the oil that was supposedly changed. Gulf valvoline never again. read more

I have to say I did not choose them for service mainly based on price . For an oil change it was just a wee bit too much considering the Alternatives. Plus coming out of covid-19 with tight purse strings you have to look for Value where you can , that being said they by far have earned four stars. it would have been five ,I'm sure ! If I would have went to them an experienced the professionalism they had over the phone if it were not just for the price.. Without a doubt they were some of the most knowledgeable and straightforward people I have spoken with on the phone in quite some time. It is very hard to find honesty in that business. I have done all my own oil changes for years so it's refreshing to find someone who's honest when you know the answers your listining for. To the extent I actually found myself calling them back even after I disqualified them! I found mysyelf wanting to drive almost 20 miles outside of my way just to give them the business,. ...ie: making an attempt to find a coupon online from Valvoline. Which sadly you cannot use at their location because apparently corporate has screwed them over in the past I cannot blame them for that! it's just a shame because I would have loved to give them my business. read more

DO NOT ATTEMPT: This places charges an outrageous amount of money. They failed the test of honesty. Oil in my car was changed a month ago at a different oil change place. I forgot to reset the mileage for new change. I took it in and they said well the oil is full, but it is dirty then i remembered I did it a few weeks back. Needless to say my car was already on the Pitt. I was Yahoo! They wanted to flush it and clean the dirt for $56 and plus change the oil for another $70. Well I was trapped and should have left, so i said go ahead and only change the oil. Oil was changed and came a bill for $64.64. This is the highest charge for an oil change i have ever done in my life for a regular simple oil change of 10 minutes. I Say Run Away from this place!!! read more

I had been coming to this place for the last 5 years. In June of this year, I had an oil change done. Approximately a month later, the oil drain plug came lose while I was driving, bounced off the road and hit the underside of the car, which I believed to be a small piece of debris in the road. I was driving from Jackson, MI to Ypsilanti, MI. Upon arriving in Ypsilanti, I noticed that the underside of the car was hemorrhaging oil. I had to call my insurance agent and have a wrecker tow the vehicle back to a dealership in Jackson so that whatever had happened could be fixed. The next day they informed me that there was no visible damage to the underside of the car, but that the oil drain plug was completely missing. The threads were not stripped or anything, it was just gone. The dealership put in a new drain plug, added some oil and ran the engine and everything was fine. There conclusion is that the drain plug was not properly secured, which is why it had fallen out. Because there was no actual damage to the vehicle, my insurance wouldn't need to pay for repairs, and because I had a $500 deductible, I was ultimately responsible for the $93 it cost me to have the drain plug and oil replaced. I contacted GAL three separate times before finally being told to submit the mechanics receipt for them to review. Because the assessment stated "Customer states vehicle struck object in road, and oil ran out" (the previously alluded to drain plug hitting the underside of the car), GAL concluded that the reason the drain plug fell out is because I hit an object in the road - a mysterious object that knocked loose the drain plug, but "No other damage apparent" according to the mechanics assessment. Had I struck something that had hit the drain plug, it wouldn't have just fallen out with no other damage. It would have torn the plug out, incurring more substantial damage to the pan. What this ultimately boils down to is that instead of doing the right thing and taking responsibility for a minor mistake, they would rather not reimburse or even give me a service credit for the $93. So I will be taking my business elsewhere in the future. I would advise you to do the same. read more

I have been going to Gulf for many years and have always received exemplary service by all of the employees. On Friday I was on a mission to get tire repaired from flat,oil change and gas fill up. Tire had to be replaced and took longer than anticipated so I was rushing to get oil change before Gulf closed ( I always go to Gulf) and noticed open sign on so I pulled up to door at 6:03 and the door opened and in I went. The young man who was working said we are closed but don't worry I will take care of it! That is a great employee who put the customer first! Very polite and definitely excellent customer service! They're very nice, but honestly they don't know what they're doing. Today they stripped the screws for my air filter, and refused to give me the oil filter that came with the oil change. On a previous visit, they neglected to tell me about a bolt not 1 in away from the oil filter that was about to fall out. When I asked them about it, they said it wasn't related to the oil change so of course they won't tell me about it. Don't go here. Drive down the street to the several places near Wal-mart. They're much more knowledgeable and even friendlier. read more

I have been going here since it changed hands in 2013. Before this I went to most of the oil change places within a 5-mile radius and this place has been the best of the bunch. The majority of the oil change places are by commission, so the employees push the sale of wipers, upgraded oil, transmission fluid change, etc. to the brink of obnoxious, well that is not the case here. They offer you bottled water while you wait and unlike the dealer that I went to on an off hour that took 45 minutes and called themselves Quickl@-e, are they really through?... yes, but use them if you have the time and not in a hurry. Like many oil change places you get really good and bad employees from my experience this place has mostly good. read more

I have been coming here for years for my oil changes. Recently I took my wife's car there for oil change. The wife drove the car to work. On her way home from work she called me stranded on I96 at night time in Brighton. Something was dragging under the car. I drove there worried about her stranded in the dark on I96. I had to have the car towed to dealer. The next day the dealer called and said that the shield where the oil pan is located was missing causing other parts to fall down and drag. I went to Gulf Auto Lube and they denied any responsibility. After multiple calls and visits there the owner Sam refuses to even call me. I still have not been able to even speak the owner. It cost me $863.00 and apparently I am going to have to take them to court to resolve the issue. They claim that she must have hit something on the road. If she had hit something large enough to knock the shield off the bottom of the car, there would have been other damage. Dealer states there was no other damage or marks under the car. read more
