We brought our 170-lb mastiff, Louie, in for a routine heartworm test. The tech attempted to draw blood from his front leg but couldn't get any on the first try. Instead of using a new needle or properly cleaning the area again with alcohol, she reused the same needle in the exact same spot. When that didn't work, they eventually drew blood from his neck area. A few days later, we noticed a growth on the same leg where the attempted blood draw occurred. At first it was small, and we thought it might be a hygroma since Louie is a large dog who tends to drop his weight on the floor. But by Saturday morning, his leg had suddenly swollen to three times the size of his other legs, and he could not walk at all. We rushed him to another vet because this clinic was closed. That vet took X-rays (which were clear) and told us the swelling was not a hygroma, his leg was filled with fluid and could be an abscess, soft tissue sarcoma, or another serious issue. They immediately started him on medication for infection and pain. On Monday, I contacted this clinic to inform them of what had happened after our visit. They asked for photos, which we provided. They then asked for more pictures, and we even sent the X-ray from the emergency vet. Several days passed with no response until we finally received a call, only to be told that it wasn't their fault and there was nothing they could do. They also tried to convince us that reusing the same needle in the same spot without re-cleaning the area could not cause an infection. I'm not sure what veterinary school teaches that, but basic medical hygiene says otherwise. What makes this even more frustrating is that no solution, no concern, and no accountability were offered. Even if they believed it truly wasn't their fault, the complete lack of responsibility or willingness to help was incredibly disappointing. I rarely leave reviews, but this experience was unacceptable. Louie suffered significantly, and instead of helping or even acknowledging the issue, the clinic dismissed us entirely. I strongly urge other pet owners to be cautious and consider seeking care elsewhere.

I had to rush her to an emergency veterinary clinic Wednesday morning where she was admitted with a dangerous 105°F fever and fluid in her lungs.The emergency veterinarian confirmed that this severe infection was absolutely contracted and incubating while she was inside this shelter's facility.To make matters worse, the shelter's medical clinic is only open on certain days and times, leaving helpless animals and new adopters completely stranded without care during weekday medical emergencies. Because of their negligence in adopting out a critically ill, underweight kitten who had just undergone surgery, I am now facing thousands of dollars in emergency vet bills just to keep her alive.Please be incredibly careful if you adopt from here. Check your animals immediately and be prepared for hidden medical emergencies. Our shelters are at MAX capacity, and Houston has the unfortunate reputation for euthanizing more animals than any other major metro. So, I saw a facebook post of a dog, "Honey Chipotle" who was on the euthanasia list. I reached out to schedule a meet and greet appointment and was able to pick her up after her owners failed to claim her (she was chipped). They provided a few weeks worth of food, a toy, leash and collar. They offered more things but we have plenty of stuff here at home. I'm also looped in with their foster organizations and will be able to take her to adoption events. I also send them photos so they can promote her. I was also told they have vet access here, so if I need to bring her in, I can make an appointment. This facility is understaffed and a bit disorganized, but BLESS YOUR FRIGGIN HEART if you're able to go there to save a life.

The Oak Ridge Animal clinic front desk person is nice, but the VET Dr. was arrogant and was clearly angry when questioned about the use of this Merck brand Rabies shot and was quick to say it was state law.... it aint State law to select a new technology rabies vaccine but their choice. There are at least six other options available. This Vet had no solution other than telling me they would not do the Neuter without this shot. That was the end of that. Made my decision to move on quicky easy! Thank you, Oak Ridge Animal Clinic, for driving a customer away. I took this experience as a lesson as a consumer to do my research and make MY choice on where to trust my Shiba Inu puppy. The puppy has no choice so its my job to try to make a decision with the least amount of risk. This VET was no help in that effort. I was able to find another nearby VET who was very open and transparent and willing to discuss options. What a refreshing difference. Now I have a place to go for VET Service.
