Great place to go shooting in Nashville, especially if you've never fired a gun before. There is a good variety of pistols to rent for a cheap price. The range admittance happy hour also gives college students a good incentive to come visit this particular range. In addition, there is a good amount of army surplus products available for sale. Yes, at times there are brass pieces on the floor from people shooting, however, the policy clearly states that "rangers must clean up after shooting". Nevertheless, the firing range offers a safe and spacious indoor shooting range. I would recommend going here if you would like to try firing a gun, especially if you are in the Belmont/Vanderbilt area, as this range is only 15 minutes away. read more

This was exactly the kind of range for which I was looking. They're a little lax with the instruction. Actually, let me rephrase that.. they just hand you over the guns you'd like to try and let you head off to the range to shoot them. I was with a crowd, some of whom had never shot a gun; needless to say, it was a little nerve-racking. The range itself is small, but it's everything we needed it to be. I have no complaints whatsoever. Steve, the man behind the desk, was quite a character, and I'll never forget the group conversation with him. Although a short safety course should probably be offered for first-timers, I imagine this is the kind of range for which regular shooters are looking. Bring out the gimp. Gun City (they lost their license to sell guns some time ago, perhaps it should be "No Gun City") is a rite of passage in Nashville. Home to the highest prices, best misinformation regarding firearms, and the most interesting indoor range you'll ever see, if you haven't been to Gun City, you should go. Once. Only once. The range is a dungeon. Every surface is coated by grime, lead residue, and fluff from the ever deteriorating spray-on insulation coating much of the area. God only knows how the EPA hasn't shut them down. That said, when you're in this, possibly the worst indoor range in the country, you know you're in a special place, one to tell stories about. Like the bar from "From Dusk Till Dawn", creepy and memorable. Like having a retired streetwalker as a next door neighbor, Gun City is cheap, convenient, and nasty. read more

This place deserves zero stars. If you want to feel like you are in a scene from Silence of the Lambs then go, if you are a normal person, you will take one step into the place and instantly walk out. My boyfriends dad was "hit" with a bullet fragment in the face and was bleeding for a good 20 minutes. My boyfriend was also hit in the head and had a welt from where it hit him. I felt uncomfortable the entire time as it was, an it didn't help that the place smelled like dead bodies. The owner of the place was not concerned with the fact that my boyfriends dad was bleeding and didn't even check on the situation. He proceeded to talk on the phone and say "some guy just got shot, but there's a store full of people so I don't have time to deal with it" (just to paraphrase). I don't know how this place is still in business but I'm warning you that if you go, you will most likely leave bleeding. read more

Unfortunately I can not give this place zero stars. Do not visit this business if you are looking for a safe gun range. We were here today the ricochet from the bullet of a gun being shot 5 stalls down came back multiple times. The second time we went and told the guy at the front and he didn't acknowledge us at all. We asked if he knew what kind of ammo they were shooting and he said he did not, but he also didn't come down and investigate what was happening. We should have left then, but we asked the guys to move their target all the way to the end (that was what the man running the store said was the problem), the guys did so and then just a few rounds later my dad was loading a gun when he was hit with ricochet so bad that it cut his upper lip. We most definitely should have come to yelp prior to visiting this place as we would have known that this is a consistent complaint. The range is very unsafe and should be shut down. read more

My husband and I were spending a kid-free day and we went to Gun City USA to do some shooting, only to get there and was told the gun range was closed. We were very upset because we drove around 30 miles away from home. Also the gentleman there was very rude and condescending. I wouldn't buy anything from his butt. I second the review that this place should be called "ricochet city". My boyfriend and I decided to go shoot our pistols today and this was the closest place. The owner is friendly enough and gives out eye and ear protections for free. The range itself is old and sketchy. Most of the cables for holding the targets are hanging so low to the ground you're basically shooting at the concrete floor. I got hit multiple times from flying pieces of metal and concrete on my arms and got a small welt on my hip. The best one got me in the forehead though and now I've got a butterfly stitch holding my gash together. I don't think well be returning here. read more

If you want to pack, you can get your carry permit there, after taking the mandatory safety class. It's the oldest and the best gun store in the midstate. read more

I took the carry permit class here. It is an all day class, but it seemed to go by really fast. Mike and Bob (instructors) were GREAT! They were very knowledgeable, patient, and helpful. Would highly recommend Gun City Carry Permit Class! read more

It was my first time being in Gun City Range and i would say that the appeal of that spot is good but wouldn't say the best, but overall everything else it was excellent. The clerk named Steve was very generous enough to school me on the Taurus Judge Public Defender i have and learn alot from it, i have never bought a cleaning kit for my revolver so i decided i needed to. Luckily i did and while he was showing me what can happen with the gun after i shot 100 rounds lets say 75x 45 Long Colts and 25 410 2 1/2 mini shotgun shells it would be need to clean, then my judge suddenly drops a screw witch was the screw to make sure the cylinder of my gun stayed put. He was kind enough to search for it found it and made sure to check twice if i dropped anything else with it did searched again and found the other piece just to make sure that it was not missing anything else. So i was happy enough that my gun is in tact and already been cleaned thoroughly with the steps he told me to follow, i'm grateful with the service he has given to me and i would go back just so i can thank him again and shoot another 100 rounds hahah.. Overall good Excellent costumer service and i would come back again! read more

I decided to go to Gun City USA for my first time shooting. I brought a friend with me from out of town so he didn't know the range any better then I did. I got there and was the only person in the store. I asked the older gentleman if he had any tips for first timers who wanted to go into law enforcement but were a bit anxious about shooting and he told me women should be behind a desk. I was offended but given his age I ignored it. My friend showed up and the other older gentleman began to berate my friend for carrying his gun in a locked case. My friend questioned him (being the Marine that he is) and the man was extremely rude and kept talking over him and talking to him like he was a child. We ignored him and bought our ammo, targets, and paid the range fee. He pointed us to a door and told us the range was downstairs. The range was filthy. There were spent casings everywhere. People had left their targets in the lanes and on the floor. The trash looked like it hadn't been taken out in days. We actually had to clean the casings up before we could shoot, there were that many, because we kept stepping on them. I would never go back to Gun City USA. read more

My wife and I went in to the store looking to buy my first handgun only to find out that they currently are not selling any guns. I was hoping to get some pointers to help me to choose a pistol and the man at the front counter was not helpful and even talked down to my wife. One would think that if a customer walks and lets you know you want to buy something they would treat you better. The guy who "helped" us had a gray disheveled beard and holes in his shirt. Upon learning that they currently were not selling any guns I tried to get some additional information to find out if they would be selling again any time soon. All that he said is that they are having a problem with paperwork. I also asked how long it had been and how long he thought it would take to be resolved and he rudely responded, "all I can I say is that there is a paperwork problem." I later learned that they Gun City lost their license. So much for the "buy" part of their "buy, sell, trade" sign. read more
