The piazza is as good as ever! We got a Lg Sausage and Pepperoni pizza, as well as small BBQ Brisket pizza. The Sausage and Pepperoni pizza was as good as ever and the crust was probably better than I remember it was the last time I was in. We tried the BBQ Brisket pizza for something new and that was a bit of a shock and pleasant surprise. This pizza is literally Crust, BBQ, Brisket, and Pickles. Yeah you heard right Pickles. Not what you or we would expect on a BBQ Brisket pizza. Most of us don't like pickles in my family to boot. But my son and I gave it a try and OMG! What an amazing surprise of Find! Once my wife and I my autistic son tested it they were even hooked. We all agreed though that it probably best in small doses though. Hey! This is Gunchies you order by phone and pick up or you come in and order at the kitchen window they give you a number and someone will bring it out to you when it's done. Drinks are at the bar (meaning 21 or older get the drinks or let the server know you have under age drinkers at the table if you're not legal to go to the bar.) coffee is free just let them know to brew a new pot when its out. If you want to eat there in person you can. Peacefully go after lunch and before quitting time or after dinner rush. Also not on any type of league (Darts or Volleyball) night. They ore newly remodeled. With lager screen TVs everywhere. A a large nice new one bar, video game, Dart boards, Picks, several outdoor volleyball courts. It is either really packed or empty in the place depending on the time of day and what is going on. Our hotel was near two sub-par restaurants and I wanted something better so I looked on Yelp and found Gunchies. It was a 15 minute drive but oh, so worth it! Every now and then when I travel I come across a little local gem. Gunchies is definitely one of those. I was a teensy bit nervous when I saw the dive-ish exterior but don't let it fool you. The food is fantastic! And the people are wonderful. We met several of the locals, including the owner Al, who all welcomed us and invited us back. We tried their recommended pizza, which was hot, cheesy, and delicious with the perfect amount of sauce and a chewy and flavorful crust. We also tried the Gunch Balls - a hilarious name for some perfectly puffed pizza crust balls rolled in Parmesan with marinara dipping sauce. And I had chicken street tacos. Super flavorful with softened corn tortillas. I only wish I'd had room to eat all three. Funnily enough, I had just mentioned to my grandsons that I didn't think I'd ever want to live in Iowa when we found Gunchies. The people and the food are making me reconsider! The pizza was alright, cut like someone had never seen a pizza before. Not quite party style since it was missing the top and bottom cuts. Giving me 10, "strips". The mushrooms came from a can, so those were awful. The dough was undercooked, and the sauce was completely forgettable. I asked for bleu cheese dipping sauce, and was brought 2 containers of Italian dressing. The boneless wings were so dry, they weren't bad per se, but without anything to dip them in, they were just inedible. I also had to pay some screwball delivery service to tell me they were 10 minutes away then arrive 45 minutes later. Making everything cold. I figured I'd see what it was like when cold the next morning. Question answered, it was like it was meant to be thrown away. 2 stars because it was edible. read more

This is the first time that I am posting a one star Today is taco Tuesday $1 Yes, just one dollar but your expectations are still high. I waited 45 minutes. Yes, 45 minutes for 6 tacos. 3 soft and 3 medium. I had to go and inquire on my order. They said, oh, we will make that now. The shells were cold and rubbery. It was so greasy. And flavorless..The shells were so horrible that we had to make salads out of the insides. I am so disappointed. I am a sober customer. And these were absolutely the worst tacos that I have ever had. The supreme (known as the Garden pizza for us old schoolers) is Delicious with a capital D! All the pizza is great here! Been coming for years and it's a must stop when I'm back in town. Ate there last week and ordered the Mac n cheese brisket burrito. Let me tell you it was glorious! White Mac n cheese, BBQ brisket, jalapeño sausage, and tater tots wrapped in a big flour shell and covered in quest. The wait wasn't long at all and the atmosphere is awesome. Been a while since I've been there but I'll be ordering that burrito again, and again, and again. The owners are very nice people and I love what they've done with the place. I have been coming here since i was just a little tater tot, I can't believe it's taken me this long to do a review. I've known many owners over the years and while the leadership changes the overall vib stays the same. They have fantastic pizza, always have! Some of the best bar wings around and all sorts of other great eats. Gunch Balls for life!!! The new owners have done great with revamping some of the menu and added some killer eats. My personal fav is the new brisket Mac n cheese! They have a lot of activities as well, Tuesdays, wanna be smart...boom trivia.... Think you know cards, euchre on Wednesdays. Outdoor volley ball Sunday thru Fridays....think you're Shania Twain Karaoke on Saturday's. Vibe is a dive bar but with upscale bar food. The outdoor patio is nice and is heated in winter. I've always loved the pizza at Gunchies, however, I stopped by on Sunday evening and received poor service. No, let me correct myself, we received NO service at all. The bartender was washing glasses with a wet cast on her hand and ignoring us. She must've walked by 5 times without acknowledging our presence. We waited over 10 minutes and finally left. I'm not going to let 1 bad Apple ruin things, I'm sure I'll try Gunchies again, hopefully with better results. read more

Hours away from CHicago I found myself sitting at this bar in middle of nowhere Davenport Iowa! yeah thats right out in Iowa. As I learned from a dude at the bar IOWA stands for Idiots Out Walking Around!! The set up of this place is really cool. I mean its a long bar and theres a 2nd room in the back with pool tables. theres a small outside patio AND 2 Volleyball nets set up right outside with sand and all !!!! AWESOME!!!!!! Now theres a sign on the entrance that says best pizza in town........... now this might be true for Davenport Iowa. Since the Legendary Shake & bake was born in Chicago I can tell ya that the pizza here sucks!!!! the locals here are friendly !!!! truly awesome people! I can't really rate the food I went in for because they were out of both ribs and chicken by 8pm, but I had the taco pizza which was good, although it resembled Happy Joes taco pizza and their's was a little better. This is a bar, with the best bar food I have had in a long time. But had I taken my teenage daughter we probably would have left just due to the fact that there were several moments I thought someone was going to fight. The review about the staff being mean is completely understandable. The one bartender was nice enough but I felt like the second one was rude, never smiled when I smiled at her.... Used to enjoy having dinner here. We hadn't been for awhile and thought we'd stop in and have their taco special. We ordered 6 taco's , chicken strip meal and a cauliflower. After 30min our taco's came. And the waiter said the rest will be right up. 15min later after 2 of us finished our taco's that tasted like a combo of mashed potato an meet with stale shells. Then chicken strips came out. The strips were average. The Waiter politely says our cauliflower will be out shortly. Finished our chicken strips and still no cauliflower. I know we weren't spending a $50 or $60 meal but an apology or even an acknowledgement of them messing up would have been nice. read more

Kept driving by the place after we moved to the Quad Cities. We love wings and pizza but really couldn't find a great place in the QC. Kept seeing a boatload of PU trucks and a few cars around the place and decided to try it. WOW, we missed out by not going in sooner. The pizza if near the top of the charts of everyplace we have lived and traveled (we're Army) and that's a lot! The wings are top of the charts BUT they only offer one flavor ... but it's GREAT! The prices are very reasonable, you get lots of food for the dollar, and the atmosphere is pretty damn good ... unless you aren't an Iowa fan.
