Owner trumps customers! Very disappointing experience. We were told seating was first come, first serve, yet when we arrived multiple tables and seats were suddenly "reserved" for the owner with no reserved signs anywhere. We were even asked to get off the bag boards because the owner wanted them. To make matters worse, a lady in front of us was basically turned away after asking about seating because staff said it was a "full house" and tables were reserved -- completely contradicting what people are told when they call. Food was okay, drinks were average at best, but the customer service and treatment of paying guests ruined the experience. I had the Carolina Salad (without tomatoes and cucumbers) with a honey mustard dressing. The crispy onions really weren't crispy so I missed having that textural aspect to an otherwise good salad. Good beer (Confluence Des Moines IPA) - it was tasty with enough hops for my preference in an IPA. My husband who had the Philly Cheesecake also enjoyed a Ciderboys hard cider which was crisp and had a little sweetness which he preferred. He ordered a 2nd one! Loved the patio because we had our dog with us and we easily settled in to the scene to have our food & beverage while visiting with my oldest sister and her husband. I live really close to this place and every time I go, it's a disaster. Went tonight because my friend was going & she lives far away. Sat at the bar with my husband and ordered a pretzel & drinks, 45 min later, no pretzel. Wasn't even on the bill when we got it. No I'm sorry, nothing. The girl who took our order vanished. I guess they put her outside for the sing-off thing. I seriously don't understand how this place stays in business except for the outside area. It's a busy atmosphere with TVs all over the place, so it was a nice spot to catch a couple of the games for sure. My server was nice enough. The menu was alright, but nothing really jumped off the page for me. I opted for a ChickFill - Bee sandwich and got a kick out of the idea of a Chick-Fil-A competing sandwich on a Sunday. The chicken was really good. I've never had such a thick fillet that was that moist and tender throughout. As expected the honey on the thing dripped all over my hands despite best efforts. I found it odd that you wouldn't think to include wet naps with an item like this. Fries were good, but I was out of ketchup and couldn't get any attention when it mattered. I traveled to this location to see Dead Letter Office, which is an AMAZING R.E.M. tribute band. The restaurant and outdoor area are beautiful. Outside you can attend the concerts FOR FREE. Many people brought their own lawn chairs but there is also a lot of permanent seating available. There is drink service and food available outside as well as inside so you don't have to ever to inside if you don't care to. The line for drinks outside was a little long but you can pop in to one of the inside bars and get served quicker. I really enjoyed my visit and if I lived closer, I'd go frequently. I Was Well Taken Care Of!! I visited the Tangled Wood on a cool overcast day while in the area for business. I was looking to try some of the Craft beers that the area is famous for and have some great food. I landed at the Quad Cities Airport, got in my rental car and headed over to the Tangled Wood. Luckily I got there just before the dinner rush. I got a great seat at the bar and was served almost right away. The bar was busy but most of the folks had been served so I had a couple of moments of one on one with the bartender. We went over the menu and selected a couple of items and then went to the beer list to find some great matches for my dinner. I ordered an appetizer, called 'GoomBalls', which was four tomato braised meatballs topped off with melted mozzarella, fresh herbs and toasted garlic bread. It was delicious but a bit on the heavy side so be warned!! Next up was a meal from the 'From the Wood' menu which is...you guessed it, from the wood!! I had the Texas Style Brisket Oak Smoked Beef Brisket which is served with a tangy Carolina BBQ Sauce and a warm soft Cornbreadwhich accompanied by dixie slaw, pickles, baked beans and hot, crispy hand-cut fries. The beers that I matched with the Brisket were The Free Range, The Compensation, the Majestic and the Mintery Night. I have to say they were a great match for the meatballs and the Brisket. What a meal!! I almost had to roll myself out of the bar when I was done. This also cost me an hour on the treadmill when I got to my hotel. This is what I surmised from my visit to the Tangled Wood. It's a local hot spot, they have great selections of beer, they take great pride in their food and they treat guests, even those dining alone, very well. I will be back, next time I'm in the area. Stopped by with my daughter for dinner, and was met by a waitress, who said, "Hi" and then promptly disappeared, this would be the theme of the evening. A young man probably around the age of 12 to 14 seated us and my daughter commented that he just disappeared after dropping off the menu, and we didn't see him the rest of the evening either. We looked over the menu and decided on food, beverages, and appetizers. The waitress stopped by introduced herself and asked if we knew what we wanted to eat, I told her we'd have some appetizers, then she stopped me and asked for beverages instead. My daughter asked for a plain Pepsi, and I asked for an Old Fashioned, she recommended the Bulleit Old Fashioned, which I agreed to. I then ordered some boneless wings and we were about to place our entree orders when suddenly she says something about putting in the order and being back later, she dropped off my daughter's Pepsi, then disappeared. The bartender is making drinks for a crowd of people at the bar, no one else, only them. Other people at the bar are nursing their drinks since they are not getting checked on, but the crowd of regulars is getting served left and right. She starts wiping down the bar and throws the dirty rags on the ground right next to our table. 20. minutes. later. Our appetizer arrives, but my drink has never shown up, and we have never placed our order. We eat the entire thing, THEN our waitress shows back up to ask if we're ready to order, I told her to forget the whole thing, the drink, the entree, everything. She started giving me excuses about other tables that were having problems, I told her it was fine, I just wanted to go somewhere, where I could eat. The waitress, a manager, and the bartender all gather around the register and talk a little trash about me being a problem. I pay my bill and we leave. I'm a little disappointed, since I've been recommending people here for months, and have been coming here with no issues. EPILOGUE: We went to McDonald's and had to pull ahead to wait, the fellow brought out my food, immediately apologized for the wait, handed me my order, thanked me, and wished me a good night.
