Great store, awesome staff, very helpful! They have some amazing historical items in there. I had the pleasure of Jason helping me out with my first purchase. He Answered all my questions and then some. They are very welcoming to those inexperienced and will draw the line if someone is being unsafe, so I've heard. I like the atmosphere there, professional, and there is always an interesting conversation going on. Great selection of items at reasonable prices (as far as these items listed on Google). I'm more knowledgeable from going there. Great group of guys running this place! I stopped in looking for a ballcap that didn't say something related to marijuana or liberal anti-Trump garbage. The guy behind the counter went downstairs and brought me two caps; Dan Wesson and a Glock version! Perfect. Unimpressed. Bait and switch on pricing. Ordered a Mossberg 500 and agreed upon the price at ordering of $459+. A little higher than Cabela's, but I'm willing to support local. After unanswered phone calls and email, eventually got through to complete the transaction, only to be charged $549+. No documentation of original price (I guess that's a bit on me; going to insist on it). Background check all done; not even sure on bargaining chips at this point. I can't imagine that being a firearm store in Boulder is an easy task. On the suggestion of a co-worker, I stopped by here the other day to pick up a few things. The shop is small but not claustrophobia inducing. More like what you'd expect from an older cozy locally owned gun shop. For their size, I feel like they have a pretty solid selection of new & used fire arms and accessories. They had what I was looking for at a pretty competitive price in stock. The staff was friendly and answered all of my question thoroughly. I found the store was well staffed for a random Thursday afternoon at 4pm ( 3-4 employees) I also noticed they have a in house gunsmith (closed during my visit)... Nice to know. I wouldn't buy target ammo here as this shop wont be the cheapest place in town, nor will they have the largest selection but, they're willing to order in anything you need. In my opinion there's a value to paying slightly higher prices to the 'local' shop that's willing to answer all your firearm questions. read more

My wife has been using this store since 1974. Myself since 1992. In 1992 my wife went in to purchase some reloading equipment as a Christmas gift. I had never reloaded before so my wife made a deal with Ross who was the store manager at that time and asked if he would be willing to answer inevitable questions or offer assistance. Ross agreed. I did have questions and asked Ross to come to my home 50 miles away to assist me in setup and usage issues. Ross arrived and I made Elk medallions for lunch, and he consulted me on my reloading questions. A lifelong friendship was born. I am being 100 neutral in my post and am not allowing my friendship to alter my review. This store was owned by another man at the beginning and I began trading in 1992. The selections and knowledge of their products was exemplary. Since Ross purchased the store it has grown and has become a family business. All of the people who are associates of Ross's are incredibly knowledgable about pretty much any gun you have a question about. They are friendly and fair. They do not try and compete with box stores, and do not need to. I will gladly pay extra for a friendly memorable experience, as well as a plethora of knowledge they freely share. I have bought, sold, restored, traded, and fondled many guns in that store. It is an experience that is as memorable as using a Barber to cut your hair instead of a Stylist. Hmmm. Unlike the two who "are new to CO " and from "out of state" and couldn't get along with the staff at Gunsport, I am absolutely devoted to this local gun store. In the last seven or eight years I have bought and sold two dozen guns from Mr. Shackleton and his staff. Benelli M2 at below MSRP? Left handed? No problem. Ross, may I look at that S&W model 18? Sure. How much? $ xxx and I'll throw in two boxes of shells. Sold. I've used him for two FFL transfers from out of state, and had an easy experience with both. I decided I wanted to thin the herd and put a couple of guns on consignment with Gunsport. Ross helped me price them for an easy sale, and they both went within a couple of weeks. However, the icing on the cake is that a friend of mine, arguably one of the world's most knowledgeable C&R collectors, says that Gunsport is the best gun shop he has ever bought and sold guns in. This is a great store. They are not just very knowledgeable, they also don't have the attitude that many gun store employees have. I do not agree with some of the other reviews that negatively portrayed the guys at this store, but I think that some customers that walk into a gun store tend to overcompensate (guys, not women...), get an attitude as a result and get upset when the other side reacts defensively/accordingly. If you are nice and don't come across creepy, they won't treat you like a suspect. I'm sure :-). Bought ammo and a shotgun here, had transfers done as well. All with absolute professionalism even when I was dragging my feet. As far as cost are concerned which a couple of folks mentioned, I can't agree with that either. I recently purchased a firearm from Gunsport. Like many others, I have to admit that their customer service is far below the industry standard. It was incredibly difficult to get any genuine advice from them. No one seems to be motivated enough to actually help a customer make a decision, except two of the younger guys I have conversed with there. I am not sure why several reviews have been hidden. I looked at them and they are obviously legitimate, It looks as though the owners are posting reviews on yelp. Go figure. read more

I'm addressing some of the negative feedback... I've been buying and trading with Ross for years, anyone walking in this place in a hurry just needs to come back when they have time to do a deal that suits them. It's a very busy place and they have constant traffic, these guys know their stuff. I mean come on, they want you to turn off your ringer and not take calls when you're in there. Common courtesy and respect goes a long way, if you want it you have to give it. Out of staye-ers: These folks will keep you on the correct legal path, it also helps if you walk in knowing what's right for you (out of state buyers - know before you go). When I walk in that store I know how much I want for my trade and what I'm looking for. They take 20% for consignments so you adjust the price accordingly, I've sold some & I've had some there for the minimum 90 days and have not sold. Just be ready to agree to terms and conditions and there's no walking away disappointed. A good example is the Airlite S&W 357PD in 41mag I got a great deal on and had consignments sell all at the same time. This was a great interaction and I have a revolver I will keep forever. My advice, come in acting like an adult human being and you won't get short shrift. Gunsport is a great local gun shop! I recently completed two transactions, and walked away completely satisfied with my buys. Ross and his crew are very knowledgeable and passionate. After calling twelve other shops in the state, only Gunsport Colorado had the new HK45 in-stock. I went down and bought it the same day. I also picked up some ammunition, eye protection, a holster, and a barrel cleaner. All of the prices were very reasonable and Ross even threw in some free oil. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and the entire transaction was very easy. Their store is huge and they have a ton of weapons in-stock. Thank you for running a gun store in the liberal wasteland known as Boulder. The right to freedom is under constant assault in America by liberals, and this store is a safe haven from the constant barrage of liberal hate directed at real Americans. Great store, friendly staff, and good selection. Prices are crazy crazy CRAZY high tho, so i basically never buy here, i just look then find it online for 30% less with no taxes (which are insane in Boulder, over 8%). FFL transfer fee is also $50, which is absurdly high - reduce this price, it gets people in your door. Arrogant, condescending and unhelpful. I'm new to Boulder and CO and wanted to support a local business. Prior to today I had been in there 3 times and each time I was treated with a sense of "we're too busy to talk to you about this and we don't think you are a real buyer" kind of attitude. Normally in the gun and hunting community you find that people and sales associates friendly and helpful.... most of the time its hard to shut them up. However the sales associates and owner of Gunsport couldn't be less helpful and curt with you, I guess its so they can get back to standing around doing nothing in the empty store. I think they felt like I wasn't a serious buyer or maybe they are just plain rude. Some may think I am crazy for going back, but today was the last straw and I feel compelled to share it so you don't waste your time trying to do business there. Today I wanted a simple background check for a transfer which they denied (after calling and asking CBI where I should go), it was a little different as I was transferring to a trust and they said they wouldn't do it. When I told them the attorney whom specializes in this recommended I get this done the owner took offense and said something to this effect "Just cause you drop the word "attorney" on us doesn't mean we are going to buckle to your request get out of my store". Its a shame because I'd like to support a local business. If you want to support a local Colorado based and owned store I'd recommend Jax they are really knowledgeable on hunting and even helped me with recommending GMUs and filling out the licensing paperwork. And if you really want a huge range I'd suggest you go to Cabela's or Bass because Gunsport's range is average but most importantly: Life's to short to be talked down to and treated like an idiot by arrogant retail store associates. The best gun shop I've ever done business with. I'm constantly surprised with their answer of "yeah, we have one", pretty much regardless of my request. Plus, they don't mark up over MSRP for hard to get items. The staff is courteous, professional and knowledgeable and, even better, if the person you're talking to doesn't know an answer, he will admit it and then find the correct answer for you. I really don't understand the negative comments that I've seen, but I can state with certainty that if a customer comes in acting like a total jackass, then he'll sure be treated like one! Hey, fair's fair, right? This shop does very well and doesn't need to put up with disrespect towards their employees - and I totally agree with and respect that attitude! Once they get to know you, they will order anything you want (that they don't already have, which is fairly rare) without a deposit. To me, that is pretty unusual. Even with the high local sales taxes, I will continue to deal exclusively with this shop. With all the reviews on the internet it always seems folks post negative reviews before they will say something positive. As for me I want to say the folks at Gunsport are as good as it gets, knowledgeable and courteous! I live in California, a "not so gun friendly state" to say the least. I do have an FFL and am familiar with the laws. On a trip to Boulder last year or the year before I purchased a rifle that was missing the magazine, the item was a consignment. It so happens this magazine is fairly rare. They told me they would save it for me if the seller did find it and bring it in, nothing promised. As we talked in the store on this visit they remembered me buying the rifle, and guess what, the consignee found the magazine and brought it in and they saved the magazine for me!! Talk about making my day, no "extra cost" nothing, he just handed me the magazine. Talk about good guys, I will always stop in for a visit when I'm traveling. The store is set up very well, they have many firearms of all types, pistols, rifles, shotguns and revolvers, many new and just as many used guns. They have other gun related items as well, cases, cleaning supplies and I'm sure they can order whatever they don't have in stock! Also if you are not from Boulder just a note: they have parking behind the store, as I found out Boulder is not a "parking friendly" place, you have to pay to park in the city and most of the machines are not working. All in all this is a great place, support your local store, or any gun store for that matter, we need more of them! read more

Very friendly and knowledgeable. I felt a fair price for being in the Peoples Republic of Boulder. I was kinda the odd-out-customer...being a queer girl, they didnt treat me any different. I specifically was looking for a a conceled carry type gun, bought the whole shebang.. .357 Ruger LCR, a conceled holster, amunition, gun cleaning kit, and dropped off my WW2 gun to be cleaned and fixed up with their gunsmith. On to take my free class with Guns For Everyone next weekend. Ive experienced alot of shit and hate for who I am, and I always stand up for myself, but I started to worry.. what if someone had a weapon.. I love this store. Ross is a terrific guy - really knows his stuff, great customer service attitude and really has succeeded in making this a friendly place with a very local vibe. I've worked with a couple of other staff and they have always been very helpful too - spending as much time as needed answering questions or checking for availability of items they don't have. I've gone to this store three or four times looking for care kits, ammunition, weapon purchase advice, technical problems. Every single time I visited the store I've been blatantly ignored by the two gentlemen working there. When I finally made eye contact with one of them to answer a question for me, they gave me abruptly short answers with a very impatient demeanor. I would not recommend this store for any reason besides their variety of ammo and rifles. If you're looking to purchase a firearm, you'd have far better luck finding information on the internet using google. Gunsport is hit and miss, but generally I am okay with the place. Sometimes the prices are better than Buds or other online retailers, sometimes not. I hear a lot of complaints about the staff (not just on Yelp), and I can understand why. But there are just some people in this world who can't deal with different personalities and lack the ability to adapt (speaking of both the staff and customers here). This is what it is. I have had pleasant exchanges with everyone who works there and I occasionally buy guns from there. However I can see how they could rub some people the wrong way. Overall...good spot. read more

I have visited Gunsport about five or six times now, bought my first gun there a month ago, as well as several trips back in for ammo, targets and speed loaders. Each time I ask a question, I feel treated like an idiot (while I am a new gun owner, I am intelegent and ask fair questions). Recently I wanted to purchace a rifle and asked if it could be ordered, Michael said he would look in to it, took my number and that was the end of it. A week later I visited another dealer, they made a few calls and found it for me with no problem. Today I walked in, cash in hand, looking for a CCW. I had been to a few stores in Denver this week and had spent several hours online reading reviews. I was pretty sure of what I was wanting, but just had a few questions. None of my questions were answered, and treated very poorly again. I won't be back! read more

I ordered a firearm online and needed to have it shipped to a licensed dealer here in Boulder. I went with Gunsport because I had heard that they were knowledgeable and friendly. This turned out to be an understatement. Being my first time purchasing a firearm, online or otherwise, I had very little foreknowledge of the process. All of the employees I spoke to, Ross especially, were very patient in explaining the process to me and what the requirements were for legally obtaining a firearm here in Colorado. They also gave me great advice on what supplies I would need for cleaning and maintenance and even told me about a place where I could go sight it in and what the range rules were there! When the day came to pick up my new purchase, they went through the paperwork with me and made the process as easy as possible for me. I would suggest going to Gunsport over any other dealer in the area, local or otherwise. They are a holdover of the old Boulder: friendly, compassionate and fiercely independent. It's nice to know that there is still at least one business in Boulder that believes in exercising your second amendment rights. read more
