Good local stop for outdoor products, gear, and maps. The staff is helpful and knows their stuff. They have a lot of gear in this life space, and it's nice and bright inside to see everything. There's a good size clearance section in the back as well. The bike shop is a nice add on too.

Jax Outdoor Gear April 29th 2012 visit.

Trying to find another establishment in this part of neighborhood we came across Jax Outdoor Gear. Since this is the first time I was there, with A.W April 29th 2012, I feel its a small version of REI that I am used to. The prices are slightly higher on certain items. Perhaps it will be sufficient for other customers who do not wish to drive to REI and perhaps Jax Outdoor Gear can run REI for its money at this location. Since I am unfamiliar with Jax Outdoor Gear, I googled their website, and found out there are 6 Jax Outdoor Gear here in the USA, in which 5 of them are located NORTH of Denver, areas such as Fort Collins, Lafayette and Loveland. 1 of which is located at Ames, Iowa. The list of the stores can be found thru this link : http://www.jaxmercantile.com/stores/ All in all, an A-OK experience shopping here. @78/2012

Pair of la sportiva climbing shoes.

Excellent service by Chris. I was looking for climbing shoes, Chris spent time with me making sure I would get the right fit for me. He was very helpful, patient and has excellent customer service skills. The shoe"s price was amazing (compare to other places). I am very happy with the whole experience in Jax, I highly recommend it.

Receipt doesn't mean you can return it.

Bought a $70.00 metal detector to find my wedding ring and was told that I could return it once I was done with it. Nope! Manager wanted to give me $25 in store credit because of a few scuff marks on the detector area. Looks like eBay, REI, True Value will be gaining my future business. Anyone want to buy a gently used metal detector???? I have the receipt and everything, JAX doesn't want it or my business.

We had fun with hours of archery practice. They had all the equipment we needed to shoot for hours.

Not a huge fan of this place. It is very expensive and I have had really bad service there too. There is just a weird vibe in that place.

Do you have a pistol range?

Hi Rich, thank you for reaching out. We do not have a pistol range but do have an archery range where bows may be tried out.

Great camping and shooting selection, and a pretty decent selection of pocketknives, all considered.

It could be done by mail shipping to and from Steamboat Springs, CO. They would check it, send an estimate and with acceptance repair and ship it back. That seemed unnecessarily complicated from a place like Boulder, home of many outdoor gear companies and repair support. We stopped in to the place we had purchased it, our REI store being incredibly helpful and knowledgeable of such repairs, though they don't do any themselves. They gave us two names, Bare Boulder being the most comprehensive and a 20 minute drive away, on a prominent street in Lafayette. I called, got info from the owner, Eli, about general pricing and timing. We took the bag of poles out 3 weeks ago, the estimate in person was at the low end of general approximation on the phone. We dropped it off and was told about 3 weeks as my husband had no need to camp with for at least a month. We picked it up today, ready on time and beautifully done with even higher quality cord than original. The shop is amazing, with antique sewing machine display, thousands of sizes and colors of zippers, piles of buckles and straps. It appears he can fix such parts on almost anything, luggage, jackets, backpacks, scuba BC vests, tents handbags, tote bags, recreation gear galore. We will certainly return as we wear out more and more of our gear.

Cigna, my insurance provider for 15 years at least, told me no problem, they'd cover it 100%. Following the procedure, Endoscopy of the Rockies refused to bill it as preventative. They say if you've ever had so much as a polyp removed, or any history of a GI tract issue, no matter how long ago, they will bill the Colonoscopy as a diagnostic procedure. This includes any scope within ten years ago, since that's the general recommendation. This means I'm stuck with nearly $1800 out of pocket to GI of the Rockies, as well as several hundred more for lab work and the the Doctor's fee. If you've no insurance, expect 6-10 Thousand! I have never in my life experienced this type of gouging. Even over 20 years ago when I did need yearly colonoscopies, insurance paid in full. Apparently, there's more money to be made by up charging the patient for diagnostic billing. My last test was 8 years ago and was clean, except for a couple of small Polyps, which is typical. The actual test center experience was fine.

If you browse their online site, select this store, and choose "In Store" as well as "Pickup," it can save you some time by allowing the staff to find the product you wish to purchase so all you do is come inside to get it or check-in for a curbside pick-up order. She returned the credit to a gift card and told me to download the app and go re order my cleats. and now I can't order them as it won't let me ship to the store.
