Can I put zero stars ? Good bagels but horrendous wait and not a grown-up in sight to run the place. Avoid it.

7 years later I'm here to update ...we are still getting our Bagels every Sunday at Gunther's in…read morePembroke. We have learned the secret is to NOT eat in. We buy 2 or 6 depending upon who is at home and bring them home to toast ourselves. They're always Fresh and delish. ONE ISSUE (it's a biggie for me) WHY PUT THE FRENCH TOAST BAGELS in a bin NEXT to EVERYTHING BAGELS?? About 50% of the time my French Toast Bagel has some SAVORY taste on one side and some sesame seeds/poppy seeds. Not a good flavour. They DO separate them into plastic bags when we purchase them so they are not together BUT THE EVERYTHING BAGEL needs to be put next to a savory bagel not a sweet one in their Bins in the Store. IT IS A BAD TASTE. I am sure this will go nowhere but I had to say it. They are FRESH & DELISH 99% of the time. Now if I could just get the poppy seeds /sesame off of my French Toast or Cinnamon bagel it would be 101%. Now I'm hungry for a Bagel !!

I initially ordered a sandwich and coffee but then went to order an additional bagel to take with me to a family member. Ordered the bagel and sat inside eating my sandwich while waiting for the bagel. Approx 15 mins passed and bagel was not there so I asked cashier who then asked, I believe, the owner to make the bagel as I had not yet received it. He said this is why you shouldn't come 30 mins after ordering and then visibly angry, slapped together another bagel. I was so taken aback by the angry attitude I did not know what to say. I feel bad for the employees who have to work with this owner as he appears to be an irritable and disrespectful person towards both customers and the employees. Unfortunate that a place that was once great to go to is now such a poor environment to be in.

Went on a Friday around 11:30am (FYI use Yelp to get address or Google Maps - Apple Maps took us somewhere else). Located in Seaport district with plenty of outdoor seating available. You do have to order a minimum of 3 bagels with a Schmear so just keep that in mind. We got the Poppy, Sesame, and Everything bagels with Scallion Schmear. Bagels were perfectly soft and the schmear was delicious! I wasn't sure how I would feel about the concept of ripping the bagels and dipping it into the cream cheese, but I actually ended up preferring it - less messy and more cream cheese per bite. Wish PopUp Bagels was in the Bay Area. I would definitely return!

PopUp Bagels has a very simple model, bagels and a spread (and a very effective viral marketing…read moreteam that has built a ton of hype). The bagels were very fresh (you can smell them well before you see their storefront in the suprette). You get 4 bagel options and a similar number of spreads to choose from. Then they toss them in a bag and you're on your way. So...the bagels are good...but that's kind of it. No seating inside, lattes were from a can, no avocado spreads just cream cheese varieties and butter. You won't be disappointed but if you're expecting something life changing (based on the hype) I think you'll be disappointed. I went close to when they open at 7 and waited less than a minute at most.

The bagel was fresh as were the veggies. Cream Cheese was spicy just as I had hoped! The windows were covered with some type of paper, I wasn't sure they were still opened. Friendly staff and even proactive staff, as they realized before I did that one of the bagel items in the bag they handed me was from another person's order and they were still working on one of my items. So, in a way, good that they noticed, but not so good that the incorrect orders I keep reading about are still happening. -- Egg Sandwich on Everything: Seems like a stretch calling this an "Everything" when the seeds are so sparsely applied. Egg was cooked well as requested. Condiments as requested, other than the missing hot sauce. My wife's assessment: "Pretty good but lacked flavor." -- Salmon Spread ("Pate") on Pumpernickel: I loved the caraway seeds on the surface and it had decent flavor. Texture a little tough all the way through. The $5.95 spread didn't get me much thickness or coverage. Also very dry, along with the dry, tough bagel. I didn't taste or feel much salmon or cream cheese. In retrospect, adding tomato for an extra $.95 was a wise move. -- Coffee: Strong, hot, and good. -- Parking: Excellent. Overall, certainly at least doable. It's just that with other better and better value bagel and breakfast options these days, probably wouldn't do again.
