Customized bagel sandwich on quinoa wrap (note, double buffalo chicken)
    Jillian C.

I ordered lunch here via a catering service. Since I didn't step inside, I can't speak to the ambiance of the place. I can speak to the food though. I ordered a customized bagel sandwich and asked for no bagel but a wrap. They only offered a thin quinoa wrap, which broke apart very easily. However, I recognize that this is a bagel place not a standard sandwich place. Thought it was a bit messy to eat, I appreciated that my wrap was packed with ingredients and was delicious!

    Everything bagel

So I do not usually leave reviews, but this genuinely ruined my breakfast for the week. I decided to treat myself and get a half dozen of everything bagels and veggie spread, except I didn't expect that spending $20+ on bagels meant they'd just be randomly thrown into a bag. It's the fact that I have to find a plastic bag to keep them fresh in for the week AND there are all of 5 everything seeds on the everything bagels. Disappointed doesn't even come close, will never be ordering from here again unless my goal is to find a mediocre chunk of gluten.

    The Eggceptional Sandwich Breakfast

Real mediocre bagels and did not receive what I ordered. No Reuben available today and got bacon instead of turkey sausage. Sad, cold power breakfast sandwich. Unable to order them toasted through Uber eats. One and done for me.

    What it SHOULD be...

Dood, I do believe EVERY time I have ordered my bagel toasted it has NEVER been toasted and I've been here at least six times. I don't mean to be a curmudgeon, but this isn't rocket science -and moreover does ANYONE (some may) actually ask for their bagel UNTOASTED? I have concluded that this many times isn't just an honest mistake but rather some workers just say, "screw it" and are just too apathetic to bother toasting them or to pay attention. The workers are mostly just a bunch of high-school kids that can safely play apathy roulette. What's the worst that can happen? Maybe the customer will return later by car to demand toasting? Probably not... In the words of Sleepy Joe, "Come on... come on, man!" Otherwise, the bagel itself is good although I wouldn't say wicked good -I've had better... There seems to be no standards. Each time I order my lox everything bagel it is different -ingredients are omitted or added and ratios and thickness of ingredients are all over the map -massively thick cucumber slices and chunky onions, tomatoes and/or capers this time and not that time, etc., is no bueno. The owner should look at Wikipedia or something to see how this is traditionally made and train the staff rather than leaving it to the workers to blindly prepare them and do "whatever." This place most certainly would not fly in Queens, NYC. HELPFUL HINT: Make your own coffee as theirs is expensive and not worth the price. It's just ordinary coffee.

I ordered two bagels with salmon. I got two bagels but only one of them had salmon and I had to go back.

We walked into a comfortable space with a relaxed vibe that never feels generic, the kind of spot where you can settle in for a meal or grab something quickly without the atmosphere working against you. The Vietnamese bowl is the order that brings everything together well. We tried it and the flavors were bright and balanced, leaning into the fresh herb and citrus notes that make Vietnamese inspired food work when the kitchen takes it seriously. The bowl format here gives you enough going on across the components that each bite shifts slightly, which kept the meal interesting from start to finish in a way that a simpler dish would not. The broader menu is worth exploring beyond a single visit. The shakshuka and acai bowl are both good, the smash burger salad is a surprisingly strong order for anyone who wants something more indulgent, and the vegan options are extensive and genuinely well executed rather than feeling like an afterthought. The smoothies are popular for good reason and the coffee holds up as well. Pricing runs on the higher side and the menu does not always list prices upfront on site, which is worth being aware of before you commit to a larger order. Service is generally attentive and fast, though it can vary by location and shift.

Ok, but a little disappointing. It must be difficult running a business like this and building a…read morefollowing. I got inspired by watching youtube to make a jambon buerre sandwich - supposedly a popular quick sandwich for Parisians. The sandwich is half a baguette with butter and French bistro ham. I tried searching all over for the French bistro ham with no luck. The only options were online sources with expensive shipping and/or expensive minimum order sizes. Somehow I stumbled upon MA-France nearby in Arlington and they sell jambon-buerre sandwiches. It's a small shop that sells sandwiches, pastries, and a small offering of French food products. Lots of pastries and baked goods like quiche, tarts, cookies, croissants, etc. The cheese offerings were very limited and basic. I can imagine that the cheeses that they sell are the same types and brands that they use for making sandwiches. For example, they sell President brand Brie - that you can also buy at Costco and market basket. Disappointing, but understandable because they can't afford to buy more variety and more expensive offerings without a big enough client base to buy those cheeses before they go bad. Getting back to the sandwich - it was half a baguette with some thick slices of butter and two pieces of French bistro ham. The bread was kind of dense and the crust was more chewy than crispy. I was disappointed that they didn't bother to spread the butter, but if they're not selling enough sandwiches then they're probably keeping the butter in the refrigerator - making it too difficult to spread. When I got home I fixed up the sandwich to my liking. Overall, the sandwich was okay, but not good enough to make me want to go back. At least I was able to solve my hunger for the jambon buerre sandwich.

Now it's quite underwhelming. The apricot croissant is now some smaller glorified danish that has no richness or personality. The plain croissant is quite "bready" now, whereas it used to be light and buttery. I have a sneaking suspicion that they have a different croissant supplier now. What saved this spot from a lower grade is that the pain au raisin and chausson aux pommes are passable. Also a save is that they still offer various French products, from soaps to cheeses to canned goods. I have to find a new French bakery in the area.

I was interested in this program as it is geared toward two noble goals: reducing food waste; and addressing food insecurity. I downloaded the app and purchased a "surprise package" online that had a retail value of $13.00 and cost me $4.27. The gentleman behind the food counter knew immediately what I meant when I mentioned the program and gave me my surprise bag containing two baguettes from Iggy's as well as a one pound of fresh, gluten free gnocchi (I had indicated that I was gluten free in the app). All items were within their freshness dates and the gnocchi were excellent. The employee who assisted me was both extremely courteous and knowledgeable about the program. I really want to commend both the Spirited Gourmet for participating in Too Good to Go as well as the program itself. I live in Belmont and because of this experience will certainly frequent this store-I hope you will as well! Thank you, Spirited Gourmet!
