I came in today for some coffee and a breakfast sandwich before my son's early football game. I realized right after I ordered that they only accept cash or check so I quickly canceled. The nice gentleman behind the counter told me it's ok and I can come back later to pay. I told him I dont come around here often so it's ok just let me cancel the order but he assured me that they started the order already and it's ok. I was so grateful for his generosity. Probably the best bagels in Hingham come from Atlantic Bagel and Coffee Co. They are fresh and delicious with the usual choices...my favorite being the sesame while Tom loves the "everything" and the garlic. Yesterday we enjoyed our bagels with delicious smoked Norwegian salmon that I had on hand. What a treat! This bagels are sized "right" which for me means not enormous. I grew up eating NY style (read: the best) bagels and I have been unpleasantly surprised by the super-sizing of bagels over the years by many stores. Ugh. The bagels here also have a nice crust and because they are fresh there really isn't a need to toast them unless that's your pleasure. The staff (mostly teens although there is usually an older adult visible) is friendly enough and I've found them to be efficient. Even when things are busy in the shop, the line seems to move pretty quickly. The bagels are $1.00 a piece and please note they only take cash or checks (does anyone actually pay by check anymore?). If you find you are cashless, there is a bank and ATM right next door. We always get the bagels to go and slice them at home but of course they will slice them, butter them, cream cheese them or make them into sandwiches for you as you wish. This place has amazingly fresh New England (Eastern Canadian really) style bagels! The best! Most affordable salmon lox bagel in MA. $7.99 - on a rosemary and olive oil bagel. Comes with capers, onions, tomatoes, cream cheese, lox. Generous and so we go here multiple times a week and it's always amazing. You can get a bacon eggs and cheese for $3.99. Cash only. So im not going to give this a 1 star because my friend really liked his bagel, but i wasnt impressed at all, mine seemed very average. First of all, and this is more of a note to future patrons not so much of a complaint, in todays day and age a cash/check only establishment is very odd. Id suggest at least putting in something like venmo or paypal but its not surprising for a small bagel shop and i brought cash anyways so it wasnt a problem. My main complaint here was that I came in at 10:45am and they had maybe a total of 20 bagels left of only a few random bagel types, none of which were particularly appealing. For a place that claims to be open until 4pm they really should plan better and make more bagels for busier days especially of types they know to be popular. I imagine this is probably why in some of the previous comments i'm seeing them having closed earlier than stated, because they dont know how to figure out how many bagels (and how many of each type) they need to make on a given day. read more

The coffee is watery and thin, and the bagels are pale and barely toasted (I asked for it toasted since the sign says you should ask). I asked the guy serving coffee (he's older, so guessing he was the owner) for a really small amount of milk, and I also asked him to leave a little extra room on top. He just stared at me, so I repeated myself since I thought he hadn't heard- then he said "but you said only a little milk". So I had to tell him "I want extra room since I'm driving and I don't want it to be full". He just turned away and didn't say anything, but he did leave a little extra room. The bagel was ok, but the herb cream cheese was good. Very little in the way of social distancing in terms of the line, number of people allowed inside - they had some tape on the floor for 6-foot distance, but at one point there were a dozen customers inside. They could do better at managing the line and maintaining safe distance for customers. We stopped the car and dumped it out, then went to DD for an iced coffee (obviously we are not coffee snobs). "Coffee" is half the brand so you'd think it would at least be palatable, but you'd be wrong. $4 for what tasted like day old brewed coffee mixed with two or three day old brewed coffee.... Atlantic bagel is the BEST!!!!! I live in NH but my grandma live here in Hingham. We can here about two weeks ago and got a few bagels and they were amazing. Even better, it's walking distance from my gramma's house. When we went back to NH, the next morning I immediately was craving there bagel ever since we had them last. Nothing will ruin your morning or your morning bagel like the WORST SERVICE EVER. I grew up in Hingham and my extended family has always talked about how yummy the bagels here are. Knowing they only accept cash, I went in and asked where the closest ATM was. There is obviously a bank right next door, but I was trying to ask -where- the ATM was at the bank. The boy behind the counter, who wouldn't even make eye contact yelled the name of the bank to me, even after I clarified. Luckily a nicer young girl answered my question. After returning with cash, I was studying the menu, to which the same rude kid hollered, "I can help the next customer." Even though I was obviously the only customer waiting. Did I mention he wouldn't look me in the eyes?... so odd!!! So I ordered a plain bagel with lox. Then he followed up with mumbled words. Then I asked for clarification, and he hollered at me again, whether I wanted a sandwich or cream cheese. Weird. So I said sandwich. Meanwhile the cashier was gossiping with a friend at the register. I waited patiently, not wanting to interrupt, and just looked around. Suddenly, the two women are staring at me expectantly. To which I apologized and told her what I ordered. A brief and cold interaction from her, too. As someone who works in food and customer service, I know the importance of making a customer feel welcome, especially because customers KEEP YOU IN BUSINESS. The bagel was ok, but that horrible feeling of being unwelcome ruined my morning. I did not purchase a coffee/ beverage here, but I did come in and sit down for a quiche. The place is quite large, or feels much larger than it is due to its high ceilings. There was just three small tables and one huge table in the center. I wanted to sit by myself but the small tables were already taken so I was the lone seater at the big open table. The prices are quite high for what you get. I spent $4+ on a quiche that seems as though it sat overnight in the display and was nuked for maybe 7 seconds and given to me. Cream cheese was great too, got the jalapeño and had diced peppers with no added sugar taste like at finagle. So I stumbled upon this place, its cute and conveniently located with great parking. I went in for coffee and decided to try a bagel. I do have a favorite bagel and they had it so I was obligated to try. The cafe was a good size with lots of cafe tables.
