Sad, dry Br04 Garlic Naan
Umeet S.

If I had to describe Guru Curry House in one word it would be "bland." This was some of the worst Indian food I've ever had. The garlic and onion naan was dry, flimsy, and soft. There is no way it's seen the inside of a tandoor. I wouldn't be surprised if it was store bought, frozen, and microwaved. The mushroom tikka masala had no flavor and tasted like cream. Their mattar paneer similarly lacked spice and the predominant flavor was a sweetness from the peas? The paneer itself was super rubbery and squeaky. It definitely didn't taste fresh. The daal makhani tasted like canned lentil soup. No makhan or masala in sight. The ras malai tasted store bought. If you're looking for real south asian flavors, I would not dine here.

This is a true mom and pop Indian spot that almost feels like a front, in the best way. I've been here three times and I'm hooked. The prices are great and the food hits hard with just the right spice level. The tea keeps coming, the service is warm, and it's close enough for me to walk. It's everything I want from a local Indian place. If you're not sure what to order, get the saag paneer and thank me later.

Really good!! Some of the best in the area in my opinion. I always order spicy level because other Indian restaurants don't actually make it spicy but Guru Curry house actually makes their food spicy if you order it at the level!! I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed my food so much. The service was super quick. I placed an online order while grocery shopping and stopped by 15 minutes later and my order was ready. This is going to be my new go to Indian spot in the lake Merritt area.

Beautiful interior decor

What a wonderful experience. Easily accessible location near Lake Merritt, Oakland. The establishment is clean, spacious, and beautifully decorated. Comforting colors and esthetics with a picturesque mural on the back wall. Looks like a geat location for a family meal. I can tell this a small operation however I am sure if the owner will prepare for large groups when contacted ahead of time. Anyway, I was there for lunch. We ordered Samosa Chaat to start, which I found to be very good. Those Samosas were well made and the different textures of the dish complemented each other well. The other dishes we ordered were Baingan Bharta (eggplant), Prawn Karahi, Garlic Cheese Naan, basmati rice, and (for fun) Acher. The prawn dish, spice level (optional) "hot", delicious !!!! Two stars there. The rice was perfectly cooked, the Naan was hot and tasty. Now, the eggplant was pounded or processed into almost a paste, seasoned well, but once I tasted that prawn dish, the eggplant came second. I love eggplant and missed the bite of it that I usually get. Overall, a very good meal with great customer service. The server was so nice he gave me four quarters for my meter when I asked for change which I thought was very sweet. He insisted that I keep my dollar bill-super sweet. He also guaranteed that the Prawn Karhari dish would be good and said to let him know if it wasn't however it was! He made good on that! Oh, Complementary Chai Self Serve station! Awesome

The food was quite delicious! But the service was a bit slow, because there was only one waiter who was serving everyone. Overall, would recommend!

This place exceeded expectations. The staff was super friendly and confidently recommended the shrimp dish I ordered. Baby! This shrimp was plump the sauce was flavorful and spiced so nicely. I ordered spicy and it did not disappoint. The Samosas were great also had great flavor. There's complimentary chai and it also was delicious. The restaurant is bigger than it looks from the outside. Plenty of room for a big group and has smaller tables tucked away perfect for a date night. I will be back for sure!

Enjoyied my visit here. Menu was well laid out, service was good and the food was on point. Nothing special, but if you are seeking GOOD indian food in Oakland, add this place to your list. And it happens to be right next door to one of my goto dive bars when hanging out near Lake Merritt.

The place was quiet and had a calming atmosphere. Service was attentive and nice. I ordered the Yee Fu Won Ton Soup and Sesame Cold Noodles. My server made sure I understood that the Yee Fu Won Ton Soup had eggs in it. We discussed it's recipe, and she told me the dumplings have a tofu filling. The egg flower soup was perfect, and I could of enjoyed it without the won ton dumplings. The Sesame Cold Noodles were great. I was full from the won ton soup, but one taste of the Sesame Noodles made me want to keep eating it. The thick ropey noodles had a balanced savory taste of nuts, sesame, garlic, chili oil and vinegar. I had the idea of taking it home to finish it, but the dish seemed addictive. The great thing about being retired is that life slows down. I can take my time and enjoy my food. I definitely enjoyed my lunch at Laughing Buddha. The food, as always, was extraordinary. The Tea Leaf Salad and Samosas were exquisite--bright, complex, and perfectly balanced. Exceptional food, exceptional hospitality, and a team that truly cares about their guests. Things changed: more breading on the chicken (spicy crispy chicken) and reduced protein in some of the other dishes, too. But the flavors still hit and its popularity hasn't dimmed much on the nights I've gone over the last few years. I bought their cookbook years back but much of what I like isn't in it, so I keep coming back for the food and community vibes. There is a communal table, which I appreciate though I tend to sit at the bar when I go alone. It's worth it to get a view of what's happening all around you. The B S in Alameda doesn't have the same energy or coziness, but it is easier to access with safer parking (now windows broken there but I've had that here and been hassled walking to/from) and dramatically shorter waits. The diversity of the diners is much lower than this one though (Alameda is still mostly old white people) and the menu has more options here, so I'll continue to return again and again and recommend it to others ... and hope to not have to replace car windows.

The pan-fried dumplings had that perfect golden crisp on the outside and juicy filling inside. I kept reaching for "just one more"? Yeah... that good. And the standout for me? The sweet and sour "chicken." Crispy pieces coated in that glossy, tangy sauce with bell peppers and pineapple... it looked like your classic takeout dish and tasted just as satisfying. They are open again!!…read more I visited Millennium the day of the re-opening in June 2026. I was so happy to find out that the food is still among the best food I've eaten, vegan or not. The new concept is prix fixe dinners on the heated, covered patio, and à la carte inside for walk-ins. I ordered from the à la carte menu and it was awesome. So easy. So delicious. My table ordered the cascatelli pasta, smoky glazed tempeh, coriander & arborio crusted oyster mushroom, and for dessert the summer sundae and chocolate tart. We were sharing so I got a taste of everything. Just amazing. It tastes just as good as before but feels much more approachable and affordable with the new concept. And you can still get the fine dining experience if you want it. I can't wait to go back on a Tuesday to try the pizza. I've heard it described as the best vegan pizza in the Bay Area by people who know what good pizza is, and I can't wait to try it. All food is vegan, and almost everything is gluten free.

You can only order the fixed menu on the patio, and the à La carte menu inside. But it doesn't say that anywhere. This is one of those places that takes a paragraph to describe a dish, but you still won't know what you're getting unless you're the chef because of the descriptions and names that they call things. We decided to stay inside and go à la carte. My family each got the veggie burger, and I went with the pasta. They seemed to like their burgers. I like my food to be a bit more straightforward, so I thought the pasta would be a safe bet. It came with a smear of pesto on the side of the dish which, although looks fancy, made the dish very impractical. Mixed in with the pasta was some arugula and cooked cherry tomatoes which they describe as a confit, but they're not. Just cooked tomatoes. The shape of the pasta was kind of difficult because it splits length wise and makes it impossible to stab with a fork, which you have to do in order to get some of the pesto on it. Over all, it was good, but I think I'd prefer a different shape of pasta and have the pesto on it instead of on the side. One thing that kind of bothered me was that my pasta came with no sides of any kind. And the portion was "fancy" so it wasn't generous. But it was the same price as the burger, which was piled so high that you literally can't fit it into your mouth, and they came with a generous side of veggies. So my family took half of their burger and all their sides home after only eating half each, and I finished my pasta and had room for more. For the same price. So I'd say the pasta is not a good value. Service wise, we had to ask for them to bring drinks that we ordered, even though they weren't busy. The ambiance was ok. Music not too loud, so we were able to talk to each other. I definitely wouldn't have chosen to come here but I guess people like places like this. I just like to know what's going on my food without needing an encyclopedia and a decoder ring.
