" Mango Lassi Kings ". This time I seen them at " The Copley Farmers Market ". This market is open Friday from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm , from June through October. The street parking so difficult but they have a garage less than a block away . It is reasonably priced . On this visit I bought 2x Mango Lassi and they were so good . Lamb biryani ($17) was really good! Very flavorful, just the right amount of spice. The mango lassi ($5) was also decent, not extremely sweet. Not the best ever, but pretty great. The only miss was that the palak paneer ($12) was a bit watery and kind of bland. Unfortunately, as it was a rainy day, the paper bag the food came in disintegrated rapidly, so be careful about that! The food here is consistently good. Prior to the pandemic, my office team would order here several times a year and always was satisfied. Not sure if they have a rotating menu, but we'd always have to check for the current menu to see what was being offered. Anyways, I went again recently a couple of times and the food was still outstanding. Parking is a nightmare so make sure if you're doing pickup, bring a friend to run inside. I don't really know what the names are for the things I eat here, as I usually rely on some friends to order. I don't think you can go wrong, really. All of the food are well prepared and spiced. we were craving calories and found this nearby. we stopped in here, hoping they had dine it but the indoor dining area was set up for carry out only. there was a barrier set up from the customers to the employees. the credit card reader was wired six feet from the register. mad applause for this set up. the rest of the industry, take note. luckily the two tables outside the restaurant were not occupied and we ate our take food there. we got samosas, a lamb biryani, and a goat combo with potatoes and rice. all the dishes were very flavorful. the samosas were nice and crispy, the fillings had spices complimenting with each other. the goat curry/stew was excellent but the oil in it was much more comparatively to other restaurants of the same type of dish. Have been ordering delivery here fairly regularly during COVID. Happy that they seem to limit the plastic.... The food is amazing. Great flavors and perfectly finished. Will warn that the food is fairly spicy....so make sure to order items that will cool the heat (raita). Good portion sizes.....always end up with a lot of left overs, and price is very fair. Wish I had noticed this place and tried it a long, long time ago. The quality is head and shoulders better than Punjaba Dhabi in Inman Square which had been my local go-to for quick and cheap take out, and also much better than India Pavilion in Central Square where I sometimes went for the lunch buffet. Their prices are not great but not terrible either, I'd say fairly reasonable for the area. Man-o-salwa in Somerville provides much bigger biryanis for about the same price but are kind of a pain to order from and deal with from a convenience perspective---I love that GtC lets you order online and directly from them not through some 3rd party app that gobbles up most of the profit. Only two caveats: the naan is rather odd, reminds me more of a tortilla than the usual fluffy doughy kind, and if you have low spice tolerance you're out of luck since you CANNOT order stuff "mild" --- the only two non-spicy dishes they have are the seafood combo with shrimp or with salmon, so you might want to get some extra raita and/or rice to tame/balance things out if needed. In any case, I will definitely be coming back for more! read more

I'd rate the food as 2 stars, and bumping to 3 stars for value as they do give you a decent amount of food for what you pay for. Ordered the chicken combo with Chicken Tikka Masala and Tadka Dal. I found both of these dishes to be on the blander side. The Tikka Masal, in particular, was very watery both in flavor and texture. The Roti the combo dish comes was unremarkable. The Vegetable Pakoras I ordered were also on the blander side as well. Really tasty spot, and great Indian food. I wanted to shout out particularly for their Lamb Biryani. We have a similar dish in Russian cuisine where I grew up, which is called plov - basically it is a dope lamb dish with rice, garlic, and some vegetables. Actually not trivial to make it taste really fresh, light, flavorful, and with good texture. I feel that Guru really nailed it, even though it is not the same dish it evoked all the same good feelings. Very well made. We got some saucy meat dishes as well which tasted great. Great takeout Indian food! Best I've had since moving to the area. This is our go-to takeout. It helps that we live nearby, but worth s bit of excursion. What I love is that what you get depends on who's cooking, it's always wonderful, but not always the same. Menu varies a bit, but some frequent menu items very worth trying are paneer paratha (flatbread stuffed with cheese and spices), park paneer, lamb biryani and the veggie samosas. Everyone has always been friendly, and food is done quickly and well packed. Not much ambience, as it's mainly takeout, but it smells wonderful. read more

Guru has delicious Indian food. I started going there over a decade ago in college, and loved their combo platters and mango lassis. I've gone a lot over the past several years, and their food is always flavorful, fresh, and reasonably priced. A combo plate will feed me for 2-3 meals, or my partner and I will share one. We often get 2 combo platters and share the 4 dishes it comes with, along with the deliciously spiced basmati rice and the bread and pickles that come with. Some of my favorite dishes to get are the chicken madrash / madras, palaak paneer, chicken tikka masala, and any kind of daal they serve (usually tadka daal, but they mix it up). I love Guru! Pick up is safe, easy, and fast during COVID. I order pick up through Yelp and the food is waiting on a table just inside the open front doors. I can take my order without anyone being near me. The food is delicious and filling. I ordered the chicken combo with daal makhni..everything was delicious. 5/5 I also got the chicken tenders (3/5)I thought they had too much batter on them unnecessarily but the chicken flavor inside was quite good. With so many positive reviews, I was excited to try Guru The Caterer as my partner and I wanted to try a new Indian restaurant even though we have some amazing go-tos around. I must say we were both disappointed, unfortunately. Order was delivered quickly, within 20 minutes of ordering on Grubhub, but it all came lukewarm to room temp which led me to believe these may not be made to order but pre-packed before hand. We both got the chicken combo meals which seemed like a good deal. The chicken tikka masala sauce was so thin and wasn't super flavorful. Chicken was fine but the sauce was so lackluster. The chicken vindaloo was literally the exact same sauce (thought maybe I got a tikka masala on accident) BUT it had a bunch of full cloves in it so the flavor was really pungent if you got a bite with one. I had to fish them out, it was not like any vindaloo I've had from any other place. Was really not a fan. The palak paneer was pretty much flavorless, which was such a bummer as it's one of our favorite dishes. Only redemption was the whole wheat roti bread was very good and the basmati rice was good too. Overall, it was not a great flavor experience so I don't think I'll order from them again with some really awesome alternatives nearby. read more

It seemed like it was broken basmati or something. The combo had chicken tikka masala, which was decent. Chicken was cooked well. The gravy was watery, which I was not expecting. The kadhi pakora was alright. Came with two pakoras. The roti was cooked well. The jeera rice was also good. My only issue with this place was that after eating all the items, I got what they call "khatte dakar" or heart burn. Which is why I won't be getting food from here again. read more

I have always been disappointed about the lack of good indian options in the Boston area. None of the restaurants have met my expectations. I was pointed to Guru by a friend who moved here. After trying it a couple of times, I must say that this is the real deal for Indian food in the Boston area. Note that they're not a sit-in and dine place, they're simply a takeout/delivery place but they are so good! I usually order the vegetarian samosas as a "starter". The samosas have the perfect flavor and are not too oily. Their tamarind chutney is totally worth trying. I usually don't like the tamarind chutney because it's way too sweet for me, but the one from Guru has some onion and a special tangy taste to it. The chicken combo is chicken tikka or a chicken curry that comes with rotis, cumin flavored rice, and a side vegetable. Many people are aware of the "naan", but Roti is the bread that most Indians have everyday. They're very light and Guru makes good rotis. I ask for the egg curry or the potato/cauliflower curry as the side veggie. The chicken tikka is usually fresh- you can say from the texture of the chicken and the flavoring of the tikka sauce. I totally recommend this. I can't wait to try their Biryanis. The staff is friendly and professional. Rating: 70% for the food and 30% for the pricing and other things. I'd give 5 stars for both. Guru is so good, I had to write a review. I ordered a combo with chicken kadai and tadka dal. I was blown away. There's just so much flavor! The spices really come through! The roti didn't stand a chance. I meant to save half of it for lunch the next day and before I knew it, I had eaten it all! I agree with some of the other reviewers that this food doesn't just taste good, it FEELS good. I also had the chicken tikka masala and it's wonderfully balanced, not overly creamy or heavy. It lands just right. Even though I loved the chicken dishes, I think I may order a veggie dish next time. The tadka dal is so comforting and aromatic. I had it for lunch the next day and I was filled with delight. Delivery is super fast too. There was a slight mix up in my order, and they Guru in touch with me right away to make up for it. We ordered online and went to pick up! We decided to try this place as it is well rated on Yelp. The restaurant itself is really minimal decoration with just few tables and some chairs. It seems like a family business and you can see a lot of Indian people eating there! That was encouraging. When we start tasting the food at home, it was even better than what we expected! After our first call with Mitzy, we stopped by their retail store for a tasting to pick our favorite dishes for the wedding. We needed to rent tables, chairs, plates, and utensils and Guru took care of that for us. They even went above and beyond by staying after our event ended at 11pm to clean-up. Finally. Guru & Co have been riding the front page of Yelp Boston for, like, a million years. And now that I live around the corner and found a Sherpa that can guide me to the front door, I partook in a little take-away lunch. $8.XX netted a lovely compartmentalized meal of chicken tikka masala, incredibly fluffy and aromatic basmati rice, a black chickpea salsa and an earthy tortilla-like flatbread. I will consult the internets to find the appropriate name for the last two sides because the rotating menu isn't posted on their site and I am an uncultured doof who didn't take notes when he ordered. The abundant meat was straight tender with a firmness you can't maintain from braising chicken all day. And the curry? It had a bold spice, immense flavor and still felt completely light and healthy. Never - NEVER - had I previously thought those words could describe that dish, which, in other iterations, has come across oily and dense. The rice was the best I've had. The chick peas (kala chana sez Google) had a pleasant grainy texture and the curried broth offered the citrus notes of coriander and cilantro (same plant, cheaters) and the mulled kick of cinnamon and clove. Whole lotta C words in that last sentence. Just sayin'. The RICE was the BEST I've had. The bread (roti!) was warm and moist, but lacked the sopping power necessary to wipe out the remaining curry. I'm a fan of the crispity, crackly, ghee-slathered naan. Sue me. I will eat here once a week, and so should you. read more
