Came on a busy Valentine's Day and was able to get two seats at the bar. I ordered the chicken tikka masala, and we shared the samosas and vegetable fritters as appetizers, then tried a dessert as well. All the food was so good, and the owner was very friendly in sharing information about the dishes. Both the samosas and fritters were nicely cooked and crispy. The mint sauce and chutney tasted fresh and complemented the appetizers well. I asked for medium heat for the chicken tikka masala, and it came with rice. Both the curry and the rice were hearty portions. The chicken pieces were lean white meat, cleanly cut, and tender. The bell peppers and onions were well coated in the curry sauce while still maintaining their crunch and texture. Overall, a very solid meal, especially for sharing several dishes. read more

On a nice spring evening, 3 of us dined outdoors. The location and the seating were lovely -- and the waitstaff was prompt. We had water and menus immediately. The menus also displayed what was gluten-free and vegetarian, which is always a relief. That said, the food was the reason for the 4 stars -- I felt like it wasn't the best Indian food and perhaps it was what we ordered, but I felt a bit heavy post meal. Sarma was busy when I visited, but there was still room for one more, and I'm glad I found a seat. My server, Alphonse, was fantastic. I was deciding between a paneer dish and the vegetable vindaloo, and he recommended the vindaloo (stating he didn't like paneer personally). I asked for it to be a bit spicy. While it wasn't quite as spicy as I had hoped, it was incredibly flavorful, hearty, and satisfying. The dish also comes with a side of white rice, which paired perfectly with the sauce. I also ordered the garlic naan, which was delicious, along with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, which was also fantastic. This is probably the best spot on Newbury St. It's really laidback and everyone was super nice. Prices are good but the food is great! Whatever paneer they serve is better than many of the restaurants in the region and we got it in the tikka masala which was flavorful and balanced. Their mango lassi was super good with a good mango flavor but not too sweet. My favorite item from the order was the jeera aloo and, as they described, was comforting and very flavorful. I walked by this place and on a whim decided to try it. It was mostly Indian people eating there, which is usually a good sign. Service: Not perfect, but for the amount of people there it was decent. Ambiance: I always liked the layout even before when it was Kashmir. Renovated interior since was a fairly new restaurant. Food: I think i need to stop ordering side of raita. It was very watered down, guess I'm setting high expectations because nobody can make a raita well in Boston. But...that Lamb Rogan Josh was superb, Mom's cooking level! Out of arrogance i dont ill ever say better than mine or my Mom's, but this a respectable tie! Medium spice was enough, and I tend to tolerate spice well. Tried this place for the first time few days ago- ordered delivery on GH. I hadn't even realized that a new Indian restaurant opened up in Back bay, since the only one there previously had closed during the pandemic. Food was amazing! The tandoori chicken didn't look the usual red color it is but thats because it was just authentic with no extra color added. Other dishes were - Chhole, Kadhai paneer, biryani and naan. Chicken was tender and spice levels for all dishes were on point. Everything tasted really great! Had lots of leftovers which was awesome. The taste of the food was very good! I feel that the portions were small compared to the price of the dishes. There was very little protein in the dishes themselves - small protein to big sauce ratio. Regarding the service, our servers seemed distracted and inefficient. We had to ask for a drink three times before they brought it out towards the end of our meal. In addition, we stacked our dirty plates and asked for them to take it away before eating our dessert, but they did not. There aren't many Indian places near there where we stayed for the weekend. So we stopped in here. Pricey but anything on Newbury is probably more expensive. Pretty busy place for Saturday night. Make a reservation if you can. We got lucky and got a table. The ambiance is a 3.5 out of 5. All the tables are pretty jammed in there. They could use a remodel of the space to get more tables in. Our food came out fairly quickly. Paneer samosa was yummy. Comes in two large pieces. Butter chicken tasted great. My son said he had better. Lamb Rogan Josh was alright. We were looking for Indian buffet restaurant. Sarva didn't have buffet but lunch combo and a lobster dish that the staff suggested. Both dishes were exceptional. The portions were pretty big, especially the lobster. Very juicy in Indian sauce was rather unique. Lunch combo was good with Naan bead and I really liked the salad. Came here with a reservation at 6 on Wednesday evening. We were seated promptly and our orders were taken pretty quickly. Wait staff was very attentive! Our food was very flavorful and really hit the spot on a cool and rainy day in Boston. The chicken kadai was awesome, first time I've had that dish and will definitely be trying their other offerings in the future. The Kashmiri naan was excellent, basically a dessert naan with cashew and coconut. Went great with the spicy food. The interior is still fairly plain at the moment, but they've only been open for two months so I expect them to settle in to the place in the future. Definitely recommend! read more

A sign of a sophisticated city and citizens is the choice of good restaurants. I had been told of how wonderful the food and ambience here was and was not disappointed. The moment you walk into this warm and inviting establishment you are met by such wonderful and smiling staff. We were sat with crowds of Indian diners and families and big parties of students and locals . The wait staff were equally fabulous and with a few minutes we were dining on succulent garlic nan and chicken dishes and meat and veggies . We came here for their weekday lunch buffet. The interior was clean and bright, and the waitress was attentive throughout our meal. Got sick with salmonella -- be careful! I really wanted to like this place. The food tasted great the night my wife and I ate there -- no complaints about the flavors or service. But unfortunately, the next day I got violently ill. I hadn't eaten out anywhere else that week, and within 24 hours I was in the ER with confirmed salmonella. For 3 days straight I had severe diarrhea (basically water) and other symptoms that forced me to seek medical treatment. The ER doctor was very clear that it was salmonella, and the only meal that could have caused it was this one. I'm posting this so others can be aware. I'm sure not every experience here will be like mine, but food safety is clearly a serious issue. Also called the place to let them know sadly nothing was done and I didn't even get a call back from the manager like I was told. Sadly, I won't be returning. read more

After a long day of walking The Freedom Trail, we were looking for a delicious, savory meal. My husband went searching for some Indian food! We found Sarva. It was a quick subway ride away to the Back Bay Area. We were able to get a seat pretty easily. The staff are all so nice and quick to meet your needs. They have a great selection of naan and I don't think you could make a bad decision with any option. We tried the garlic naan and it was delicious. I had the korma with paneer and my husband had the veg biryani. The food was AMAZING! We both equally loved our dishes. You can specify the spice level - if you are not as comfortable with spicy foods. We also tried the veg samosa as an appetizer, which was also delicious. I'm always looking to support new family businesses, and Sarva came up on my radar. Located on the bustling area of Newbury Street, Sarva serves outdoor and indoor dining. I came specifically for the lunch buffet ($22.99 + tax) on a weekday during my lunch break, and I was the only one dining in the buffet area. At first glance, it looked like there weren't many options, but I was wrong. They have different types of rice, two types of chicken dishes, curry, paneer, and even a rice pudding dessert. They also serve naan on the side (plain or butter) and can be refilled. It was pricier than anticipated, but if you consider that this is AYCE, then it's an overall good deal. I just don't really do AYCE justice, but that's my issue and not anyone else's haha. Service was great. It just felt quiet and bare overall.. maybe could've had some music in the background. They also have a cafe for quick bites and drinks. I hope more people will check out Sarva! read more

Sarva's specialty is definitely its wide array of selection of delicacies from salads to soups to tandoor to curries. They have Chaats and Indo-Chinese too. But the cherry on top is definitely a few of its handpicked dishes from the Southern part of India, Kerala thus churning out some amazing mélange of spices and blends with their Cochin Goat Curry and Chicken curry and the signature Kerala fish curry and prawns curry. This is not just a first in Newbury Street but all of Massachusetts! Sarva has a café too that has a good selection of popular Indian quick bites like cutlets, samosas, omelettes, coffee and smoothies. The garlic Naan we ordered was heavenly! Be sure to not miss out on their mouthwatering Lamb Chops, veg cutlets and coconut tomato soup, while you're there. In beverages, you must try the Sulaimani tea and Madras filter coffee. The only downfall was that their Tandoor Rotis are huge and cut into 4 pieces, so please keep that in mind when you order! We were seated outside on a gentle breezy day, but the fireplace kept us really warm and the fuzzy yellow lights and slow music lent the perfect ambience! First time finding an Indian cuisine that also serves South Indian food with South Indian chefs. I mean, they have fish cutlets. How can you go wrong if you have fish cutlets. Chicken biryani was off the roof. Dum style. Pakora was the bomb. Finished off our dinner with a masala chai and sulemani tea. I'm Indian and this is the best Indian food I've eaten outside of India. Specifically, the paneer tikka, aloo paratha and ras malai were so good some good places in India don't even do them so well. I'm so so grateful to have found Sarva. Going to be a regular here from now on. I'm torn writing this review though - I want this place to stay in business forever, but I don't want them to get so busy I can't find a table Cant say enough good things.
