We stopped at Gus's Pretzels after touring the Budweiser brewery, based on a recommendation from one of my coworkers. He told us we had to try the bratwurst wrapped inside a pretzel, and it was everything we hoped it would be. We love bratwurst and we love pretzels, so combining the two was pretty much a guaranteed win for us. We also tried the cinnamon and sugar ends, which were delicious as well. This definitely feels like one of those little St. Louis staple places that you should check out if you're visiting the area. It's something I really wish we had back home! I got stick pretzels and cinnamon sugar twist pretzels. You want to heat them up for a few seconds before you eat them so they get soft and easier to chew. The cinnamon sugar dough seems different than the sticks. Visually it looks like they use wheat flour because the pretzels have a denser consistency which I do not prefer. I came to Gus' Pretzels right as they were closing today and it still seemed to be busy and poppin! I have been craving fresh pretzels for a while and decided to finally come here. I ordered a pretzel stick, pretzel ends, and got their spicy brown mustard sauce and cheese sauce to dip. Once I got home I warmed up the pretzels for 30 seconds and everything tasted so good. The pretzels were warm and fluffy and the sauces complemented the pretzels perfectly! I got an order of 12 sticks, cinnamon ends, a hot dog and a garlic pretzel. Tried everything but the garlic pretzel. They were all super dry and tasted stale. maybe I went on a bad day? Hoping the garlic one is less dry. The garlic one had some type of oil or butter on it which I'm hoping itll make it more moist/flavorful. The sticks were on the skinnier side so maybe they rolled them out too much and it caused them to dry out. Too bad I bought a bunch.. I just threw them out.. I also went to pretzel boys on this trip and they were way better. Gave them 2 stars because the staff was really nice. I hate giving bad reviews but also wouldn't want to lead ppl astray. More great food selection in Soulard. The history of this joint and the amount of pretzels they sell everyday is enough to draw everyone's interest. Once you try them, you realize why they've been in business for a century. The menu is great for the location and doesn't paralyze you with options. Drinks are standard and the food is always fresh. Service is fast and there's always a line inside when you go in. This family run business has outsourced to having contracts with the Cardinals and Blues, as well as disseminating into local grocers. Review Visit: November 7th, 2018A delicious pit stop in the city with the famous Arch. On a previous visit to St. Louis, I came across Gus' and tried to stop in for a quick pretzel before a concert. Sadly, it happened to be the one day they were closed. Fast forward two years and I drive by Gus' while on the way to The Mud House and see that they are open! I made a mental note to swing by after getting my caffeine buzz. It was a nice day out, so I parked a little before Gus' to enjoy a nice walk before getting some food. I noticed there was a small parking lot next to Gus' that would allow maybe 4-6 cars to be parked there. Along the street, there is some parking as well. So, if you go during a busy time, parking may be a bit of a chore. Upon going inside, I quickly noticed that you could watch a machine and a worker make the pretzels. I find these to be fascinating to watch, as it gives you a sneak peek behind the scenes. There is another place in St. Louis that lets you watch soda being bottled. That place is called Fitz's over on Delmar. Snapping out of the trance of watching the assembly of pretzels being made, I hopped in line and poured over the menu. There is a $5 minimum to use a card and I only had $2 in cash on me, so my options were limited. I settled on a Cinnamon Sugar pretzel once it was my turn to order. There is no inside seating, so this place is definitely a grab-n-go kind of place. Since I didn't want to get cinnamon sugar all over my car, I managed to find seating across the street at a restaurant that provided chairs and tables outside. This means my car stayed pretzel-mess clean! How was the pretzel? It was pretty okay. The cinnamon was more of a heavy paste with thick chunks of cinnamon and sugar. It was almost too sweet for my taste. Delicious still, but very sweet. I think my glucose levels went up 100 points by the time I was finished with. The pretzel base itself was alright. It didn't wow me with a ton of flavor but it also didn't leave me unsatisfied. The menu also had some quick-grab items on top of pretzels. Brats, hot dogs, something called salsicca and a few other strangely named things. Like, what is a Ted Drewes? I may have to go back and find out firsthand. Gus' was packed with workers and people grabbing lunch, so their food menu beyond pretzels must be amazing. What will a pocket full of change get you in a big city? If you are in St. Louis, it can get you some pretzel sticks and sticky fingers. If you have a bit more in your wallet, you can order a full lunch to satisfy your hunger. read more

Since moving to Soulard, I have seen Gus' Pretzels everytime I go to take I-55 as it's right off the exit on Arsenal. Talk a bout prime real estate! This location is so easy to get to even if you don't live in the neighborhood. They have two parking lots that offer ample space when you stop by to grab some warm pretzels. They have a really smart setup during the pandemic to help keep customers safe and socially distanced. The doors on Arsenal are only used to enter the building and the doors in the rear near the parking lot are used as the main exit. It's smart! No one passes you as you enter and leave. I will admit. I have had Gus' Pretzels in the past and never really cared for them. They were always really hard. But I'm so glad I impulsively stopped by to finally try these pretzels fresh! I was very impressed upon entering to see that they offered so much more than just plain pretzels. They had many sandwiches, all of which sounded very tempting, including one with andouille sausage to celebrate the Mardi Gras season. I purchased three pretzel sticks and the total was just over $2. What a deal! When I got my iconic Gus' brown bag, the contents were very hot to the touch. I was very surprised! They should have both registers attended instead of making people wait so long. = Prices are reasonable and quantity discount (the more you get less per unit). - Parking is tiny and tight. You need to pay attention and have both hands on the wheel for Ingress and egress. While pretzels were soft and salty, I found the cold bread well cold.
