Holy crap you can get great pizza here for 6 euro. They only have a handful of options, and that's it! We tried 4 pizzas, which I'll list in order of our favorite to least favorite: - the margherita (perfectly balanced and delicious), - the one with sausage - the caprese (it doesn't come with tomato sauce and the cherry tomatoes on top didn't quite add enough acid for each bite) - the one with anchovies. This one was just too fishy/briny even though I like capers and usually like anchovies too- in this case, the fish was basically a paste that was just a little too funky for me. Despite 2 of the pizzas being kinda meh, the dough on all of them was spectacularly mochi-soft and just slightly burnt. And who cares if 2 of the pizzas are so-so when the cost the same as a fancy latte in SF! FYI, the whole plaza that Gusta pizza is in is more popular with the locals and hence the prices are MUCH cheaper across the board. Whoot! read more

Had Gustapizza bookmarked before coming to Florence as our pizzeria to go to. My husband and I stopped in at the end of lunch rush but there was still a good amount of people gathered around the pick up counter. We went up directly to the side counter and was given a number to go with our order - the classic margarita for me and the spicy salami for the hubby. A heart was scribbled over our order sheet after hearing my request of heart shaped pizza (saw others got it and I definitely want a picture with my own hehe). Instead of fighting for a seat in this small, cramped space, we were actually seated by a busboy. He came fetching for us after we placed our order and casually stood on the sidewalk as we wait for our number to be called. Our pizzas took about 15 mins and my pizza was as round as it could be (my hubby's was heart shaped though so one picture is good enough!) Nevertheless, they were everything I imagined. They had the perfect amount of marinara sauce, generous serving of mozzarella/salami, and chewy, thick, bready crust which I'd always loved! My mom and I just had to come here after hearing so much about this place. Not only is it super cheap but the pizza is SO GOOD!! We got a calzone which had pastrami meat and lots of cheese. The calzone was huge, but eating it made me feel like I was going to die from too much sodium. The calzone had shredded pastrami meat with cheese inside. The dough was thick as well as the filling so I feel like you could feed 2 people with that. You have to pay for your own beverages, they give no cups, you just have to grab it from the fridge and pay. The system of doing things is kind of confusing. You pay for your beverage and pizza at the cashier first and then get seated by the waiter. You don't get a choice on where you get to sit unless you're in a big party. read more

Pretty much the equivalent of an American pizza joint but serving up personal pies rather than slices. Honestly you can't beat the price-quality convo here. For six euros, you get a pretty darn good margherita pie. Nice thin crust, light sauce, and not oily at all. We were really excited to try out Gusta Pizza with all the stellar reviews. While we were waiting in line for the Duomo climb, we also overheard another tourist raving about how good the pizza was at Gusta, so we decided to add it to our list. We arrived at around 7pm on a Wednesday evening and there was a short line ahead of us. If you choose to sit in, you will likely be sharing the table with others unless you are with a bigger group (i.e. 4-6 ppl). We waited for about 10 minutes or so, our number was called and we picked up our piping hot Margherita pizza (6 euros) at the counter, fresh out of the oven. We were a bit skeptical from observing our pizza. There were puddles of moist mozzarella cheese concentrated in a few areas and the pizza looked really wet. But this was only our second pizza experience in Italy, so we thought, maybe it tastes better than it looks? Sadly, that wasn't the case. The mozzarella cheese released way too much moisture, making the center soggy and diluting the nice flavour in their tomato sauce. I found their dough to be on the salty side, but maybe they did that on purpose to elevate their watery sauce? I'm not sure, but if that was the case, I did not enjoy the over seasoned crust on its own. There was also practically no fresh basil on the pizza. Like another reviewer mentioned, we also preferred the pizza at Sud located in the Mercato Centrale. Although there was nothing to rave about at Sud either, at least the flavour and texture of the dough was on point and I thoroughly enjoyed eating the crust on its own. Plus, it definitely didn't feel like I was having a tomato mozzarella broth on a pizza crust. Overall, we were very disappointed. So far, all of our food experiences in Italy have been quite positive and we hate wasting limited belly space on mediocre food. That being said, although Gusta under delivered in our opinion, at least it didn't hurt our wallets! read more

Read this before you eat, first of all the pizza isn't that good and secondly I'm pretty sure they don't wash the arugula before hand. I was a quarter finished with my pizza when I go for another quarter and find a slug crawl out of the pizza slice. A SLUG. I proceeded to go to the cashier and they joke and say that's how fresh the pizza is and asks if I wanna another pizza. I was too grossed out to eat another pizza, so I ask if I could just not pay for it instead. They were okay with that and turned around to do whatever they were doing. I was still in shock but just left. I still don't know why they didn't apologize for it especially when it's a dangerous to eat raw slug due to parasites. I had been told that they are known for their pizzas being heart shaped, but I have yet to have had a heart shaped pizza after three visits. So sadly disappointed with Gusta Pizza! It was serious sadness when our pizza arrived on our table. We are pizza fanatics, literally. My boyfriend saw this spot while we were eating a little down the street and was so excited to come check it out. Great reviews online (we always do a bit of research) and of course he watched them make the pizzas the night before. The pizza did not taste good. The tomatoes, the dough, were all bland. We did not even finish the pizza. That is very unlike us. It was just sadness. There was no love put into this pizza anymore. We could tell that the ingredients were inexpensive, and that the pizza was being made for profit now instead of enjoyment. Please dont go here, especially since there are SO MANY other amazing pizza places in Florence. This place has taken its high ratings and tried to float on them by downgrading their product.
