Dominican restaurants in the White Plains area (and a bit beyond) are few and far between. So when one opens, I want to experience how my people are cooking or doctoring up the foods I grew up with. Plus, I've had Gustico on my radar ever since they opened down on Central Ave in Yonkers a few years ago. Despite their current average rating, they're still a firm favorite so decided on take out. The space is small with their food warmers taking up a lot of space on the right. A few high top tables on the left and lots of tropical faux greenery to invite you further in. Gustico has all the hearty Dominican staples- think: sancocho, stewed goat, stewed fish with coconut, chicharrones de cerdo (fried pork chunks), etc. The seafood though, isn't offered daily as menu might suggest as the restaurant may not have received their supply for the day. That was the case when I came here and was told they didn't receive the fish because of the rainstorm. I ordered yellow rice- that looked like white rice doused in yellow food coloring, a container of white rice, a small container of each of black and red beans. Both beans were tasty- but the thinly sliced celery in each threw me off since traditional Dominican cooking doesn't call for that and I also picked up baked chicken for hubs which he liked a lot. Tamarind and Passion fruit juices were the real thing- maybe way tooo sweet- but tasty. Don't pay any mind to their strip small location, come for the soul-soothing Dominican stews+other foods and warm service practically all year round. However, aside from their 3+ year mark, Gustico needs to straighten out themselves big time and not cut corners because it seems EVERYBODY is complaining about them. Just do better. read more

The truth is that I was not expecting much. Typically, these kinds of establishments are all the same. Good food, good prices, in and out and 0 service. Since I'm with my family, service must be included. I was so disappointed when we received great service. Food was delicious and cheap. The space has 3 tables, tiny. They should take advantage of the summer and put some tables outside. They were featured in the Westchester Magazine and don't disappoint. Supporting local businesses is what the game is about. Gustico features some mighty fine Latin food--that is for sure!! I stopped in recently in Gustico for the first time when spotting the place during a quick trip to the bank. I had recently been hankering for some croquetas de jamon, so I pulled out my phone, did a quick search for Gustico's menu, and I saw they had them!! I was sold right away. So what was the verdict on the ham croquettes? A+ indeed. They were homemade style, plump and tender on the inside, and perfectly fried on the outside! The only other menu item we ordered was the ground beef stuffed plantain, which was yummy as well. But, I'll say that I was stunned by how perfect all of their other food looked (you can see some of their items being cooked behind a prep counter). And from the flutter of other customers coming in and out for take-out, Gustico has already acquired quite a customer following! I'm eager to visit Gustico again and look forward to trying some of the other eye candy I saw on my first visit - Pernil (roasted pork shoulder), Oxtail Stew, Rice and Beans, etc.! read more

Here's the thing... I've been a Latina for 36 years.. with that being said un café fuerte should taste like a strong coffee. I literally asked the waiter for a strong coffee.. another waiter comes and brings the coffee and it's so milky... and says since she put the coffee down she can't take them back. I said I'm not drinking it like this. So she brings me black coffee to add. Where am I adding the coffee if the cups are full? She then brings 2 extra cups. The coffee is watery even after adding the black coffee. Whatever... we order empanadas and chicharrón de cerdo. It was good. BUT WHO brings a side of ketchup for empanadas?? Whatever... the bill comes and I'm charged $6 for coffee. I ask to speak to the manager and there's no manager at the moment. How is that possible? I'm never coming here again. Service is trash. Waiters are incompetent and the coffee is trash. I still don't understand how this works .. because you put something down on the table I'm automatically charged for it ? When it wasn't made correctly in the first place ?? Make it make sense. read more

This place took over where the whiskey house used to be it's a great addition to Yonkers especially Central Avenue which didn't have a ton of Latin places to eat at small place to dine at but you can take out to go and they have fresh hot food that you can see and pick out or you can order off the menu friendly staff great desserts option to pay in cash or credit everybody should try it out. read more

The food tastes great, okay they gave us samples of 'carnitas frita, pizza empanada and Dominican cherry juice, aka Cereza'.. lemme just say I've only tasted food like this in Dom Rep. Everything is fresh and tasty. Presentation is great! Ambiance is very good and welcoming. I spoke to a manager today and his main thing is customer service and great food. I tried it last week Friday and have come back twice since then. Today I placed an order for a presentation for work and it was ALL very fresh and reasonably priced. I'm giving this place three stars, not because of service or anything. But honestly, I was expecting more flavor on the food, especially since it's a Dominican restaurant. We were seated, and our food came out within 10 mins. The chicharron de Pollo sin hues, was pleasing. The tostones were not fresh. A last minute stop between doctors appointments turned into a very pleasant experience after a very difficult day. The food always fresh and appetizing here so I wanted to try it out. The owner was there and couldn't be more attentive to us and other customers at the restaurant. Everything comes out fresh from the kitchen and refresh often at front. Delicious authentic Dominican food. We have eaten/ordered from this place several times and the food is consistently delicious for the most part. We have ordered from a variety of their lunch/dinner specials, breakfast, sandwiches, soups and desserts and the food never disappoints. The beans do not always taste great but everything else so far has been great. The rotisserie chicken is one of, if not, the best I've had in westchester county. She's gave me attitude and told me they have to make the mofongo and asked if I wanted it for today. I said of course. She said we have to prepare the meal it's not made. I'm like ok. This was my 2nd chance at trying Gustico although I should have learned from my first try I can guarantee their will not be a 3rd. The food is horrible and over priced. 2 small dishes came up to $25. I ordered the stewed oxtail, white rice and red beans and none of it was up to par. The oxtail had a oder to it like it was not washed properly the rice was mushy and the beans were salty. The 2nd dish was pernil and Moro the pernil was dry and burnt and the Moro was salty and burnt. They were busy however, the spot was patronized by young guys so that says a lot (they eat anything) but for me personally I'll stop being lazy and cook my own meals even though I am not Hispanic my Hispanic food comes out way better than what they are over pricing to sell. Tried pepper steak, chicken stew, both were good. Some of the food like rice and the paper steak felt like it was in the warmer all day, dry and hard. It's mostly a take out place and if you don't speak Spanish, they treat you like an alien. If you get the items a la carte instead of the combo, be prepared to overpay. Oh, and they don't even have prices for the sides like rice and beans on the menu so you have to go by whatever they decide to charge you. The first time we tried this restaurant we came in and was pleasantly greeted by the lady behind the counter. it was on evening about 30 minutes before closing and surprisingly the chicken was very good. it lived up to what the sign posted outside says" best roasted chicken". our second time we called in a pork chop family meal with chicken pastelito. There was a little wait but the food was good, the only mistake was we were given a beef empanada instead of chicken. Fast forward to a friday eve. I ordered online to pickup after a long day at work. very simple order whole chicken, pork chop with moro grandules. the receipt on the bag was correct but not the order. instead there was white rice with a side of beans. that's dishonest. the chicken was so dry, no garlic sauce was given which could have helped. not sure what type of pork chops, quality was very poor and no seasoning. Disappointing to have a wrong order and tasteless food. Im not sure what happened in a span of 2 months when I first stopped by to give it a try. This place has amazing customer service and food. The employees are amazing and they check up on you all the time. I had the garlic shrimp and it was amazing just the right amount of garlic and the rice was amazing. The space is small but there is a outside eating area with heating. Last week I ordered food to take to a family function from Gustico. The food looked great , but when I bit into the empanada the taste was pure vinegar. I called immediately to complain to tell them that I would go to return the food. The next day a hard time was given to me for the returned food. Even though I paid with a debit card a credit was given to me. I ordered 3 meals that needed an order of beans. When I opened up the order, they omitted to put in the beans. Two mishaps within a couple of days is no good for me. Try LOLA'S grill on Tuchahoe instead. read more

Went to this place 7/15/21. The service was okay. This is a very small place. Has a few tables inside and tables outside as well. This place it's not that clean. It's more like a cafeteria. You order, then sit down to eat. Went here with my sister yesterday for lunch. We ate from what they had available on their lunch/buffet. We had 2 orders of Stew Oax tails with white rice and red beans. Had 1 small fresh Passion juice, a bottle water, and 1 tomato and onions salad. Food was okay. The beans were mainly juice, no beans. Had to change for the black beans, which were better. Total costs for lunch was $51.00, which I found outrageously expensive. Tables were dirty, the owner came and cleaned our table with a dirty rag and left it all wet. Outside sitting looked okay, not that clean. Food was okay, not delicious. I will not eat here again. Stay away from this place. Food is not that good, place not that clean, and the price super expensive. Total rip off. read more

The only reason I'm giving this restaurant two stars is because the Mofongo was delicious. Aside from that, we ate at the restaurant in their outside seats. The waitress was just not friendly. Half of the items on the menu, and unfortunately that is not an exaggeration, were simply not available. The waitress kept trying to push these natural juices that they sell including lemonade. So we ordered a lemonade, and she said oh we don't have that LOL very overpriced as well for spanish food that is mediocre. Drive further into South Yonkers to Caridad or Malecon...
