Fried zucchini app - the breading had mostly fallen off by the time it got to us so we were just eating zucchini which was mushy and wet. I'm guessing the moistness of the zucchini is why the breading didn't stay on but I dont know. Eggplant appetizer - this was fine Branzino special - good fish but they ran out of polenta and everyone was disappointed since a bunch of people in our group ordered it. Most ended up w a side of spaghetti that didn't have enough sauce and one got mashed potatoes that he said were bland. Tortellini special - overcooked, making the noodles too soft. Last night I went to the recently reopened Gusto with its new owners. They totally renovated the restaurant with a completely new vibe that invites younger guests and manages to keep their regular clientele. The service was impressive with the staff working together to make the evening enjoyable. I had the special Halibut encrusted pecans on a bed of spinach. So yummy! I could not finish it so I can't wait for lunch today ! I will return again , that's for sure! read more

The newly renovated Gusto is outstanding. The food, service, and ambiance are all very impressive and revamped from the original restaurant. Everything I tried was delicious. For appetizers, the lamb chops and grilled octopus are nice choices. Both were very tender and flavorful. I especially enjoyed the sauce that came with the octopus. For entrees, the linguine carbonara and white fish vesuvio were nice. The pasta came with a lot of meat, and the sauce was rich and creamy. The portions were generous as well. Each entree comes with a soup or salad, making the prices very reasonable. They also have specials on the menu which sounded delicious. The service throughout the night was excellent. The owner even offered my family a complimentary special dish that was not in the menu yet. The server and manager came to check on our table often as well. The ambiance of the restaurant is also a big upgrade after the renovation with a lively atmosphere. Overall, between the food, service, and beautifully updated space, this will definitely be a spot where I'll be returning to try more dishes. I'd highly recommend Gusto to anyone looking for an elevated Italian dining experience with excellent service and a welcoming atmosphere. read more

Saltiest meal I've had in my life. There's just a conspicuous amount of salt in the food. Not sure what they're compensating for but it was awful. I found myself absolutely parched with thirst later, and actually woke up several times in the night needing to drink water. Others in my party experienced the same thing. Service was erratic. One minute our table was swarmed with busboys compulsively filling our waters with every sip, but then after that we were waiting 10 minutes for the waiter to show up. Gusto (particularly the old Wilmette location) at one point seemed to be aspiring to be a nice place. Now it's gone downhill it seems. Oversalted food + mediocre service does not really = us going back anytime soon. read more

First the bread wasn't a loaf cut into slices it was little rolls and they were not good. Then the minestrone was mostly broth with a few beans and vegetables. This should never been brought out of the kitchen. My wife and I didn't even finish it. No offer to remove it from the bill although they didn't charge me for my two beers. After that fiasco we were hesitant to try anything else but we were assured that the Grilled Octopus and the shrimp vesuvio from the appetizer menu would make us happy and it was better.Perfectly grilled and served hot, the shrimp was good but just a bit plain tasting. When I get a vesuvio dish I like a lot of garlic flavor. Bar service was good, the food not so much except the Octopus. It has been years since we had last been to Gusto Italiano. So long that the last time we were there, Gusto was at its previous location. However, we decided to check them out a couple weeks ago and there were several in our party. The newer place was nice: old wood, high ceilings, the place looks nice. Service was pretty decent too. And that's about it. The food was seriously bland. I ordered the gnocchi with bolognese and meatballs. No flavor anywhere. Nothing had any flavor. A little oregano, a little garlic powder, maybe a little pepper. There just was no flavor to my dish at all. And I'm not the only one who felt this way. Everyone had flavor issues with their meals. The flavor was absent and in its place was either nothing or salt. Another friend was there last week and had the same issues. With so many options around for Italian, Gusto really needs to step up their flavor profiles or people will go elsewhere, like I will. read more

First of all if you are not a returning customer you get the worst table in the house. My husband ordered lasagna and some of it was burnt he didn't want the hassel of sending back so he eat it. I had the lobster ravioli it was delious. The worst thing of all is the parking is very bad. read more

Had the largest pour of wine I have ever had in a restaurant for $12. Could actually hear the conversation with my dinner companions. I am giving this rating mostly because of the staff. They were incredibly friendly, helpful, kind, and attentive. I have never felt as welcomed to an establishment as I did last night during dinner. Although the ambiance was nice, we were seated in the third room, which had a musty smell. I liked how much quieter that room was compared to the first room, but I couldn't get over the smell, which was less than appetizing. My family has been coming to Gusto's for years and have always enjoyed the complimentary bread basket... until last night. The garlic rolls were warm and chewy but also had a powdering, grainy texture, which we did not like. I ordered pasta with marinara and could tell that the recipe had changed as well. Classic looking Italian restaurants are rare like this one in Glenview. Gusto Italiano has the atmosphere right. It also has drinks and food, the reasons why people still come here after years. Has a convenient location in downtown. The train station is close to here so you can use public transportation. A lot of the Italian classics. It has a bar in the middle which is good if wanting to watch the live music. This place looks pretty classy yet it's casual and has good prices. It's about $10 for a cocktail. On special was the Gin Flower. Good combination. This was gin, grapefruit, and St. Germain topped with sparking wine. As far as the food it's not on the same level but it's good from what I've had. The menu is meaty. Common items include spaghetti with various meat sauces, and there's crazier stuff like octopus. It's $6 for a House Salad. Basic looking but it was was a good amount. This was simple but good for light meals. Good place and there's a pretty big menu of classics and newer items. It gets busy but there's usually enough room inside, but big groups should get reservations. This is a quick walk from the Metra station. read more

Another solid dinner at Gusto. I've come here several times with the family and we've never been disappointed. The restaurant has an old school feel, with classic voices of the past playing overhead as you eat. Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams all taking you back to yesteryear. My chicken parmesan was very moist and flavorful, perfectly cooked with hot mozzarella and Parmesan melted all over the top. It came with penne pasta in marinara sauce, a very traditional accompaniment. My son loves their fettuccine Alfredo which he orders every time. This is normally a rich dish wherever you get it, but Gusto's has a great balance of well seasoned creaminess without being clumpy or oily, which seems to happen too often at restaurants. My daughter's gnocchi in marinara was very tasty. The total portion size was very large but the potato dumplings were small enough so that 4 or 5 bites didn't quickly make her feel stuffed. There's plenty in the dish so after eating over half of it, she still had plenty to take home for the next day. Each entree comes with soup or salad which seems harder and harder to find these days as you have to order a salad in addition to your entree. Prices are definitely reasonable for the amount of food you get. Gusto is a very tasty Italian meal and a pretty good value for all the food you get. read more

A nice locally owned eatery with good food, service and fair pricing. Although I noticed a $4.95 charge on my credit card for a $148 meal? There was no notice of this 3% charge on the menu or credit card billing. Next visit will be in cash or may choose another restaurant. Our favorite local restaurant. We came to know Conrad as our server, and he has since bought the place and has been improving the menu bit by bit. Super friendly staff towards our two kids; our two-year-old can order "the usual" and they know what it is. Unfortunately they had a flood shortly after Conrad bought it. We made a reservation for a special occasion dinner on Saturday, February 22nd at 6:00 PM. Upon our arrival at the restaurant, we found no cars in the parking lot and two large dumpsters by the front door. A note on the door stated that they were temporarily closed due to a water main break. The reservation was made the previous Tuesday. It would have been appreciated if the management had informed us that the restaurant would be closed, which would have allowed us to make alternative plans for our special occasion. This was our first visit to the restaurant. However, due to the lack of communication, we will not be returning or recommending it. The experience was very disappointing. read more

Alright I'm gonna be nice. This place's food is definitely bottom tier for good Italian American. Nothing will blow your mind but it's all edible. I still like this place though even though the food is mids. Martinis are solid. I like sittin at the bar. And it's cozy in there around Christmas time. I met my wife and daughter for dinner at Gusto's. Very convenient off the Metra station. It was a Saturday night and they were very busy. Lot's of families and it was "loud". But great vibe. I ordered their Bouillabaisse, my daughter had one of their meat pasta dishes that was on special. My wife had their Veal Marsala. Service was good, even with how busy it was. Everything came out very hot and tasty. My fish was so fresh, so awesome, but for the price, it felt a little short on fish, compared to similar places I have gone too. Other than that, this place has the flavors and much fresher fish. My wife's Marsala tasted great to me, but she thought it should have more "flavor". Not sure what was missing; guess we have different tastes for this dish. My daughters pasta was perfect and flavorful and we all fought for the leftovers the next day. They have a great wine list and a great vibe. Will definitely be back to try the rest of their menu. read more

My husband loves Gustos! It is a large restaurant with several different rooms that are tastefully decorated and cozy. When we visit Gustos it is almost like going to a favorite friends house... The ambience is so inviting and the food is wonderful. Everyone at Bustos is extremely friendly from the hostess to the servers & busboys. I find dining at a restaurant where the staff is content makes my dining experience even better. The menu has a wonderful variety of pasta and Mediterranean dishes. When we recently dined with friends I had amazing lamb chops. I find myself fantasizing about having these lamb chops again soon! Another evening I had an amazing steak that was on their special menu that evening. My husband has had amazing fish and recently had their duck. One of my favorite things about Gustos is the variety diners. One evening they had a DJ and the many couples were dancing in the area by the bar. There are often large celebrations and birthday parties going on in the back rooms, and I often see families dining together. I always leave Gustos with warm fuzzies and to look forward to returning. read more
