I wanted to try the restaurant tonight with my family and one other guest, total party size of 4 people. I tried booking a table through OpenTable, however NOTHING is available until 7:30p on Monday, March 28th 2022. Ok, no big deal, I'll just call the restaurant. I called the restaurant at 847-715-9440, listened to the menu and tapped on 1 for reservations. After 10-20 rings, I was promptly told by the automated phone system that I had selected an invalid mailbox. First sign that the restaurant doesn't care about its customers (or future customers). I tried a second time, and tapped on 0 (zero) for "all other" inquiries, I expected the same treatment, but amazingly someone answered. I asked about availability for an 8pm reservation, and was immediately told they were closing at 4pm. No why, wherefore, thank you for you interest, nothing pleasant about he interaction. I'm surprised they are closing so early on a FRIDAY, when lots of people go out. Makes me wonder why, .... For such an unusual closing hour, I would at a minimum have expected THE PAVILLION'S website to have indicated the early closing. Their website says they are open until 10p on Fridays and Saturdays, closed Sundays, and open until 9pm the rest of the week. The week as defined by their website does not include Monday, it's probably a safe bet they are closed on Mondays as well. (Full disclosure, Yelp shows them open 11a to 9p on Mondays.) read more

Impressive dinner at Pavilion! Honestly I didn't expect so much for this restaurant before I go, it's new in Northbrook area. Last Saturday I went there with my boyfriend, it's not a big restaurant but atmosphere is classy, small lounge looks nice too and serve variety of alcohol, they also have live music on specific days, its very nice to have dinner with live music, when we got there it was empty but right after one hour later, the whole restaurant was packed! It's a good place for late dinner during weekend too, since they open till 3am. Service was outstanding, our waitress is knowledgeable of the food and she was very nice! We ordered Lobster bisque for soup, it's a little too salty and didn't have too much lobster meat, but it's only 5 dollars, not bad to try. For main course I ordered sea bass and my boyfriend had salmon, didn't overcook my sea bass and it was a big portion. Dinner better than what I expected, we also order chocolate martini too, so overall I like this restaurant. Menu price is fair, not too expensive, food was standard, European style. It's nice to be surprised and the Pavillion was a very pleasant and unexpected pleasure. The restaurant's roots seem to be Russian judging from the some of the help and other diners but the copious menu leans more to western Europe and the U.S. than to the east. Still, there are some eastern European dishes such a Rasputin Caviar Blini and Ukrainian Borscht but much of the menu is given to favorites such as Chilean Sea Bass, New York Strip Steak or Shrimp Tortellini Alfredo. The greater part of the menu is taken up by a marvelous assortment of hot and cold appetizers. Besides the caviar and borscht, one could choose Beef Carpaccio, Tuna Tartar, Crab Cake, Foie Gras or Artichoke Fritters, just to name a few. Indeed a good and interesting meal could be assembled from just the starters on this menu. We found the chef paid attention to the presentation as well as the flavor and service was attentive without being overbearing. Came here for dinner with the bf on a Saturday night. I wasn't a huge fan of the decor, but it was great otherwise. We ordered: - Trio double lamb chops - delicious. I ordered medium, but thinking back, I should've gotten it medium rare (I was warned that the medium might look well done, but I stuck with medium) - Chilean sea bass with lemon butter - really fresh and flaky and just well cooked - Sides, 2 with each entree: side salad had an amazing citrus dressing, veggies were nicely grilled, and we each got the fruit plate which turned out to be huge (we should've just gotten one to split) - Smetannik - just okay. The waitress recommended it and said that it's very authentic but may be an acquired taste. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't my fave, I just don't think the strawberry sauce went well with it. My 1 star is going to offset Gail's 5 stars, but if I could I wouldn't even give that one star. Yes, it was that bad! Now if it was just me that had had a bad experience I would be more generous, but there were 10 of us and no one had a good experience. It was a week night and the place as dead. Our meals took a very long time to get to us and there was a problem with each course. For example, I had eel for my appetizer and it wasn't de-boned. The mashed potatoes that came with dinner were cold. Need I go on? To add to the lengthy wait and food issues, I felt the manager acted unprofessionally. When she was on the phone she talked in such a way I felt as though I was dining in her home living. Just to loud to for such an intimate setting. Also, when we asked our server about the special she had to go ask the manager if we could get the special pricing. We found this humorous considering this special was advertised in a local paper. Ugh! Do not go out for Russian food. I repeat, do not eat it. It's neither pleasant to look at nor smell. I don't really know everything I ate, just that the duck and seaweed salad (which is Japanese) were best. Everything else appeared to be a combination of cabbage (red and white), mayo, and potatoes. There was even something called a garbage salad. You can tell they were going for a sleek decor (but keep in mind it's a Russian place) so they ended up with these gothic/rustic chandeliers which were all slightly different (drove me nuts). Lighting was dim and everything was a shade of beige. That's where the random balloons come in. Amidst the decor were several brightly colored balloons hanging from the ceiling. They must have been several feet in diameter. I don't know who put them there or why.... clearly they don't "match" the decor. It was just odd. To their credit, the staff does stack the food plates very well (if you don't understand, you've never been to a Russian restaurant). 2 stars for seaweed salad!! read more

Went there on a Groupon that was about to expire. I had been once before and thought the place was just okay. The ambience and service is good, but the food needs work. My girlfriend and I ordered the crab cakes for an appetizer. Tasted like something frozen with mostly filler and very little crab flavor. The sauce was cream based and did not have flavor. I ordered the beef stew, which was so salty I couldn't even eat half. My girlfriend ordered the seafood linguini pasta with alfredo and the alfredo sauce was bland and tasteless, like it came from a powder. I mentioned my issue with the stew to the waitstaff and, to their credit, they admitted that they have heard this feedback before and that the chef is trying to adjust the recipe. I was given a $15 gift certificate to use next time. In addition to this location, I have also been to their Buffalo Grove location twice. Same story there....the food is just not worth the effort. Great place to celebrate parties: birthdays, graduations, Bar Mitzvahs, any big celebration. Tanya, the manager, is a really good organizer, she will help you with the decorations, menus, seating organization, music ( also they can contact you with very professional DJ's). We celebrated my husband's 45 th birthday and all guests had a blast; food was surprisingly good and abundant, Russian style with lots of different appetizers, smoked fish ( salmon, trout), caviar with all kind of blinis and sauces, good meat, salads, excellent. Music was a success, we hired a ALEX, a DJ, for the night for a very reasonable price, all guests danced and he was open to the guests requests. I really recommend this place for parties ! read more

The experience was terrible from the moment we walked in last night. My intention was to have a great dinner to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. Yo star with,, the waiter did not offer anything to drink and straight ahead and in a rude manner he asked if we were ready to order. The food wasn't great, the bread and butter still frozen. He ordered tortellini and it was bland, no flavor. The fish didn't taste fresh. We asked for red pepper and in a rude way he brought black pepper instead Very disappointing the water looked very unmotivated to provide service in an "upscale" restaurant. When it was time to pay, I gave my credit card and he came back to the table and dropped the bill stating I didn't give it to him, he found it at the counter after I stated I gave it to him. This was my first time here but after reading earlier reviews, I can say for certain that the menu has been redone. There was nothing on the menu that seemed ethnic. All the food was contemporary fare. The decor must have also been redone because it did not resemble earlier review's descriptions. First, the service was very good, bordering on overly attentive. Everyone we encountered, from the hostess to the bus boys, were pleasant and courteous. The food, while a bit pricey, is tasty and plentiful. It Is not quite fine dining but still very good. I work nearby, and a co-worker offered to buy me lunch at this nearby establishment. I had never even realized it existed. It is in the far corner of the stripmall at the Waukegan overpass over the spur. The place is small, and it was fully packed when we came in for lunch. It was also all older women that were there for a party of some sort. Our server was incredibly nice/friendly and she did a great job keeping our glasses full. The lunch menu has a good mixture of selections for $9.95. They also serve warm bread with your meal. Our table ordered the daily fish special (white fish served with rice and veggies with a butter cream sauce) that looked excellent, lobster ravioli which looked amazing, and a 1/2 bacon cheeseburger which I ordered medium rare. With my burger I ordered a side salad instead of fries which is an upcharge. I ordered it with caesar dressing which when served did not look like caesar to me, but smelled and tasted like caesar. The mixed greens were fresh with shredded carrots, tomatoes, and cucumbers. The burger was served with a pickle and topped with lettuce and tomato. The burger was cooked almost perfectly and the bacon was crispy and delicious. There was a lot of cheese, but it was still tasty. I would say a 5 for service, 4 for food, 3 for ambiance. 4 overall. Food service was appropriately paced, and entrees were presented hot and attractively. Food was fresh, prepared exactly as ordered, with crisp vegetables as sides. Jan, a long-time waiter, served us and provided insightful suggestions on travels that he has experienced. Amy, the manager, also spent time with us and was most delightful. Entire menu is reasonably- Priced, given the high-quality good, fairly; but the Luncheon menu provides the same quality foods at hard-to-believe low prices. Me and my brother are passing through and staying across the street. We are both Russian heritage so of course we could not pass this up. This place looked pretty large and impressive on the outside, but once you step in, the place is small but cozy, and had a charming décor with a touch of modern and Mediterranean feel. As it was Wednesday night, my friend and I took advantage of their pre-fixed menu. You had your choice of an appetizer, entrée and a dessert for $23 per person. I ordered the Crab Cake for appetizers and my friend ordered the dumplings which was suggested by our waitress, who was extremely friendly and courteous. When we received our appetizers, the portions were huge; I received 4 crab cake balls (drizzled with a fantastic tasting crab sauce) and my friend had a full plate of dumplings. Our waitress suggested we dip the dumplings in vinegar which brings out the full flavor. Boy, was she right on!!!, we were so pleasantly surprised at how great the dumplings tasted with vinegar, felt like an explosion of wonderful flavors !!! the dough was so moist and chewy, yet melted in your mouth and the potato and chicken fillings were so moist and delicious. This is by far one of the best dumplings Ive had in a while. My Crab cakes were pretty good to, but I have to admit, it could have been served a bit warmer. For our entress, I ordered the lobster Ravioli and my friend ordered the fish perch. My Lobster Ravioli was really good, just a perfect compliment to my crab cake. It was perfectly drenched in their red wine sauce and came with 4 pieces of toasted breads. My fiend received 3 small pieces of perch nicely arranged on a plate with vegetables and side of yellow rice. This was very good as well, very succulent and seasoned just right; the portions though could have been a bit larger. I was really impressed by the assortment of desserts to choose from, considering it was a pre-fixed dinner. I ended up with their homemade apple strudel with a scoop of their homemade vanilla ice cream and some berries, drizzed in some berry sauce, very yummy, and my friend had a Russian layered cake (which was again suggested by our waitress) similar to a Napolitan cake. Both desserts were very delicious, but honestly, I should have ordered the Tiramizu for dessert as the table next to us had ordered it. It look absolutely delicious with the chocolate powder on top and creamy layer center...so yummy for you tummy. My friend and I decided to try this place as we had one of those $25 off Restaurant.com Coupons, and this place was one of the participating restaurants. Overall, it was just ok. Everyone there was very friendly. However, I was surprised they didn't have more "Russian" entrees. For the most part, I would call the menu "American" with a few Russian options. I had the whitefish special and my wife had the rib eye sandwich. The fish was ok but not worth $20. The rib eye sandwich was just ok as well. My daughter's chicken tenders were very good but her fries seemed dead like they were day-old.
