Cheese pizza slice, $5

I have a theory that the best pizza slices are the ones that don't fit on the plate. Vinny's cheese pizza only proves this theory - the bottom is crunchy like Lou Malnati's, the sauce is sweet yet tangy, and the slice itself only costs five dollars One star off because the cheesecake tastes like it was frozen/store-bought, which I don't like. But otherwise, this restaurant has such a calming atmosphere and the family is always super welcoming and kind :)

Half spinach, half sausage. All garlic. Crazy tasty

Still a phenomenal thin, hand-crimped pizza. Without question the best thin pizza in Glenview and the surrounding burbs. Bursting with flavor, with a rich tomato sauce and fresh ingredients, Vinnie's perfects what many other joints have tried and failed to achieve.

The pizza was so great..we thought a pic was necessary!!

My husband and I are visiting from Canada. We used to live in Chicago and really miss all the great pizza places in the city. We're staying in the north 'burbs for part of this trip and tried Vinny's for the first time. it was excellent!! We absolutely LOVED it!! We are also thin crust people as well and this pizza didn't disappoint!! We ordered for delivery and it came at the time we requested hot and fresh and the delivery guy was very nice, pleasant and friendly. The ingredients were fresh and the pizza was delicious!! Next time we are visiting in this area..Vinny's will be on our "go to" list for sure!! Pizza lived up to all the great reviews we read!!!

Medium sausage

I've never seen so many five star reviews for a new place, so either it was a five star experience or lots of friends wrote reviews. While I'm not going the five star route just yet, I will go with four stars on my one and only visit for take out pizza. I'll have to try more of the menu before considering upping my rating. The medium sausage pizza I picked up was still hot when I got home from my ten to fifteen minute ride. The crust is thin but not cracker thin which is fine with me. The sauce was very tasty and salty but it didn't over power the cheese and the tasty Italian sausage. Plenty of wonderful mozzarella cheese and sausage on it as well, which I also like. I want a piece of sausage in every bite I take and this did the job. It was very good to excellent and I welcome it into my favorite pizza list. I will try different ingredients and especially the Fusion pizza which has Salumi, Prosciuto cotto, hot Salami and Mortadella and of course the mozzarella. Plenty of pasta dishes on the menu too. Looking forward to having it again soon.

Large pep and olives. Yummy!

We headed north to Skokie to see a friend play some jazz and ate at Ascione beforehand. We are so…read moreglad we did. The restaurant is a gorgeous, huge space, with two dining rooms. The main dining room has a view of the kitchen, and the second dining room is adjacent to the bar. I recommend the bar, as I am not a fan of open kitchens and if you are lucky you can get a table against the windows, secluded from the hubbub. It is a loud, energetic space. They have a solid cocktail program, particularly their riff on a Black Manhattan with bourbon and Demerara - a refugee from an Old Fashioned. I recommend swapping out bourbon for rye and holding the Demerara - its an excellent drink. A good collection of Italian and American wines. We ordered the Lemelson, a light bodied Pinot from Willamette Valley. It paired well with the lobster ravioli special and roast chicken. For food, we ordered the aforementioned entrees, and started with the meatballs and the beet salad. The meatballs were superb, flavorful and juicy. The beet salad was delicious, as were the entrees. Just a note, they have a very heavy hand with the sauces. The lobster ravioli came with a cognac cream sauce that painted the plate. It had much more tomato than I was led to believe but the dish was still very good. Kelly had the red wine reduction on the side for her chicken, and it was a veritable bowl of soup! The mushrooms are actually in the sauce, and it has a strong bitter flavor - I liked it but it was not Kelly's favorite. Still, a very good dish. We went light for dessert and had a scoop of gelato and a scoop of sorbet. They were both excellent. Service is friendly, the tables have plenty of space between them and the restrooms are accessible. No valet, but a free city lot is a short block away and street parking is available. Definitely worth a trip from the city.

Met with some friends after work and they suggested Ascione (which one of them had already been to…read moreseveral times). Spacious and elegant, the bar area seemed even larger than the dining room, though not many people were there for Happy Hour (please add more options to Happy Hour). We split a charcuterie plate (not exciting) and some pinsas (flatbread pizzas), one a margherita style and the other a pesto flavor (our favorite). We basically met to have some drinks and catch up but I would have welcomed a few more choices. The staff was very attentive and friendly and even sent out some complimentary bruschetta. There is plentiful free parking. It's great to have another restaurant in this area of downtown Skokie. Though I didn't have dinner, my friends recommend it!

Social Inn has been on my to-try list for some time.  My husband and I finally had a chance to…read morecheck it out on a Monday evening recently.  I made a reservation via Tock that I already had an account for years, so that was simple. On a weekday evening, as expected, the restaurant was not busy.  We were promptly seated at a 4-top table (2 × 2-top) against the right wall, with some other 2-tops on both sides.  Like many reviewers had mentioned, the venue was beautiful, modern and chic. There were 7 tables occupied, including us.  The music that they had was not too loud, just that customers' conversations were amplified by the box shape open dining area.  If we focused enough, we could hear every conversation if we wanted to.  This was obvious when a table of about 6 women got seated at a table near the front door, some of them laughed and talked very loudly.  My husband and I just found it funny and didn't let that bother us.  However, when the restaurant is filled on busier days, it might be a different story. Our server, Patrick, was very nice and attentive.  Since they did not list drinks on their menu except those with alcohol, I asked him about non-alcoholic drinks.  After a brief "discussion", he asked me to leave it to him to make me a drink with mango.  He came up with a beautiful drink that was good and refreshing, with some mango flavor.  It was Virgin Paloma on our receipt for $8, which was reasonable.  He was very polite and checked in on us several times at appropriate times during our dinner.  The pace of the dinner was good, we spent a total of an hour and 15 minutes in the restaurant. Patrick might be the only waiter serving all the tables that evening, though. I also ordered Grilled Octopus ($22) which was very good, tender and flavorful, but was a little too salty to my taste.  The small pita bread wedges were warm and fluffy with some crispy edges, the beet hummus was creamy, and everything was delicious and tasted fresh.  I generously shared 2 little bites of octopus with my husband and I finished the entire plate, it was so good!  My husband really liked his Spiked White Fish ($29) and I shared a bite of that too.  He also had a House Salad for $6, that was a very good value.  He enjoyed a glass of Sauvignon Blanc Crossing ($12) too.  We also shared an order of Crème Brulee ($8), that was creamy and cooked perfectly.  We ordered a takeout order of Rigatoni with Sausage ($23), that was a good portion, and was still delicious and al dente the next day after being microwaved. I am so happy that we found Social Inn - a hidden gem in Plaza del Prado, it's not far from home, with comfortable and beautiful ambiance, excellent service (from Patrick), an attractive menu with enticing food (fresh ingredients and appealing plating), and reasonable prices, we will definitely be back!

We were in the area late in the day and remembered Social Inn was open, so we went. We ordered a variety of items. I had the Social Burger (at least 1/2 pound), we also ordered their chicken dinner salad and the beet hummus. Everything was delicious. I did order my burger medium and it was delivered well done, but it was still good. They also have one of the best gluten-free buns I've ever had. I do wish they were open at lunch time still, but I understand they need to be open for their busiest hours. Social Inn is a great option when you are in the Glenview area.

Lobster diavolo was absolutely a favorite, I can still taste it now. Melts in your mouth and very generous with the seafood portions. The ricotta and honeycomb is popular for a reason as well. We were a little surprised when nothing was done for it, which isn't a big deal, but I'll be honest it was disappointing since we did come specifically to celebrate and had talked about it w our server. 3/5 Arancini - Very salty. None of us really enjoyed them because of that. They also came out lukewarm instead of hot. Would have been excellent if it was less salty and came out hot and crispy. 5/5 Fig & Mushroom (subbed for prosciutto) - The menu doesn't specify how the fig is served. Turned out to be fig jam rather than fresh fig, which wasn't what we expected. A little too sweet for me but overall still very much enjoyed it. Their pizza was cooked perfectly with enough toppings and cheese. Very good pizza! 5/5 Braised Short Rib + Polenta - so good! The short rib was excellent, just slightly salty. The polenta was perfect, and it came with a generous portion of wild mushrooms. 2/5 White Wine Cake (recommended as "unique") by our server - This was the most disappointing meal item. Our waitress told us it was special, but it was very bland and didn't match the description or image on their website. Their website showed a cake with a large scoop of ice cream on top, fair amount of whipped cream and raspberry sauce. Ours came with maybe a quarter of the size of that ice cream scoop, a little teaspoon dollop of whipped cream that you eat in one bite and the raspberry sauce was a tiny smear on bottom for decor but there wasn't enough to actually eat it. The cake itself was moist but lacked flavor. It took a really long time to come out, we thought perhaps they forgot, then forgetting we were celebrating a birthday on top of that was disappointing. Atmosphere - Beautiful space, very well done. The only issue is how close the tables are, you can't pull your chair back without hitting someone, and getting to the bathroom requires asking others to move because of how tight the layout is. Overall, we really enjoyed it and would return. While there were a few dishes we wouldn't order again, and others we would. Would love to try the wild mushroom pizza next time! The only thing was that since we had come to celebrate a birthday and didn't end up doing that, the night felt a little less special than we had expected--but still a nice experience overall.

Taste was decent but not the best. Mozzarella log - best thing we had by far. Super crispy and cheesy, it was amazing. Only thing is we didn't love the sauce. It's sugary and sweet without any texture. Fennel arugula salad - was all arugula , no topping. Like literally 4-5 small shaved fennel pieces, a couple grapes, little nuts, Gorgonzola cheese, and they forgot the apple. It was all lettuce, barely any topping, and therefore flavorless. Plus they forgot the apple which they layer helped rectify but the whole salad was a disappointment. Sausage vodka sauce pasta - I expected more. Very minimal sauce (and it was sweet sugary sauce we didn't like), only a few chunks of sausage, and almost no cheese. Sauce is the texture of canned tomato soup, thin and watery. It was nothing special at all, it felt skimpy. Expensive for the small portion. Branzino - sooo salty! My mom can't have added salt and she couldn't even eat this. My dad and I also found it extremely salty to the point it wasn't as enjoyed. Expensive for a small piece that comes with no sides and nothing else at all. Twice baked gnocchi - loved the cheesiness of it! The gnocchi itself though was super firm and hard, not the soft and fluffy kind I would have expected and better enjoyed Butter cake - questionable. I've had many warm delicious butter cakes, but this was very sub par. Dry, barely warm, and no flavor. No crisp edge and buttery bottom either and the scoop of ice cream was skimpy as well.
