Their menu is great, such a nice assortment of soooo many things I absolutely LOVE, but our server told me how amazing the taco assortment and the smash burger was that we got one of each, with me getting the smash burger. Our food came out rather quickly and was amazing, fresh, tasty, and PERFECTLY PREPARED!!! My smash burger was excellent! Exactly what a smash burger should be. I asked for jalapeños to be added to it and they added fresh sliced jalapeños which nicely enhanced the flavor. I typically don't eat the fries that come as a side dish, but these were so darn amazing that I ate them all! They were perfectly double-fried for crispness, yet were fresh, hot, perfectly salted, and sooo tasty! Our experience, the food, the quality, and the service was very nice. I will definitely return!

For an appetizer, we ordered the salsa, spinach artichoke dip and hips. My son ended up going with his standby favorite, a cheeseburger, while I got the pulled pork sandwich and my partner and daughter shared the spaghetti topped with shrimp. Basically, all our favorite foods! For dessert, we recommend the paletas (delicious ice pops). Our kids had so much fun picking out their favorites. Our daughter got the cookies and cream that was packed with full-sized oreos inside, while my son got the classic cherry flavor. The restaurant is decorated for the holidays and we loved getting our photo in front of their Christmas tree. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. This is a definite must-stop spot in Madison.

So, let's find out how the visit went. There weren't a lot of people inside and there was only one waitress attending to tables. They have a bar area, tables and booths. We decided to eat near the entrance to their supermarket. It took a while for us to roam through the menu, but decided on what we wanted a few minutes after getting seates. I chose a 1/2 chicken with two sides (fried yucca and french fries). The Peruvian chicken was pretty good and flavorful. Both the fried yucca and fries could've been seasoned more, but were plentiful. I actually saved half of my meal for takeout and tasted well for dinner. Unfortunately, the bad part of our visit was the decor. The restaurant is located in a strip mall which has seen better days. Seats at the booth are torn up.....literally. The tables are outdated. The floor is in pretty bad shape, especially near the bar area. And in the bathroom, the paper towel dispenser was not connected to the wall and instead, laying on the floor. It's not comfortable washing your hands and then turning it sideways where you can get paper. I really don't mean to sound mean,, but the decor alone would turn folks away. It needs a big renovation all around. Hopefully, down the road, they can upgrade or they may become a thing of the past :(

Carbonero looks fresh, modern and appealing on the exterior. The inside is decent. When we arrived on a Saturday afternoon, the restaurant was busy with all tables taken with a short wait to be seated. A complimentary small portion of tortilla chips with red salsa is served. There's also squirt bottles with red and green salsa you can request. Be careful, these salsas are watery. For an appetizer, we ordered the Chicharrones De Casa. JP remarked that these were the best chicharrones he's had in NoVA/DC. JP ordered the Nopales Con Huevos (Cactus with eggs). This was a very good dish. I ordered the Pollo in Crema (Chicken in Cream). While it as attractively presented, I felt a bit like Clara Peller in the 1980s Wendy's commercial asking "Where's the Beef?" In my case, it was, where's the cream? My spouse schooled me by telling me I was used to Mexican Pollo in Crema, but that other Latino cuisines serve their pollo in crema without cream. Well, alrighty then. In any event, the generous chicken serving and its accompanying mushrooms were a bit salty. The rice on the plate was okay. This dish also came with French fries and an undressed salad. In addition, I ordered a queso (cheese) pupusa. The pupusa came with a little cup of crema (which is a lot like crème fraiche). The pupusa was stuffed with unmelted queso fresco and was okay. Lastly, I ordered a Tamal De Elote (sweet corn tamale). It was very good, flavorful and moist. Service was friendly and fine. Overall, all things considered, the food was fine as well.

This tidy little Latino market carries many Hispanic, Mexican and South American products. Being of Cuban descent, I frequently head to this site for Goya products, including rice, black beans, plantains, Adobo spices, coffee, Maria cookies, fresh fruits and veggies, tomato items, empanada shells and my "never be without" Mojo Criollo Goya marinade. This marinade truly is the spice of life and I use it in many of my recipes! You will also find baked goods, household items, and sundries at this store. There's a deli/butcher in the back and a frozen food section. There's also a small restaurant and pupuseria serving Latin fare, from Cuban sandwiches to tacos to tostones to tamales to yucca to soups/sides and more. They serve Cuban coffee, horchata, Latin sodas, and other drinks and some tempting desserts, like flan and tres leches cake. For an inexpensive, quick bite in a casual, no nonsense eatery with lots of festive atmosphere, you've gotta try Cielito Lindo, it really is "a slice of heaven". And not to worry if you don't speak Spanish, some of the folks there speak English. ¡Provecho!
