Sophia and I ate lunch here on a pretty weekend day. This was actually the 2nd time we ate here. Back in 2017 or 2018, we had lunch with friends from a social group. So, let's find out how the visit went. There weren't a lot of people inside and there was only one waitress attending to tables. They have a bar area, tables and booths. We decided to eat near the entrance to their supermarket. It took a while for us to roam through the menu, but decided on what we wanted a few minutes after getting seates. I chose a 1/2 chicken with two sides (fried yucca and french fries). The Peruvian chicken was pretty good and flavorful. Both the fried yucca and fries could've been seasoned more, but were plentiful. I actually saved half of my meal for takeout and tasted well for dinner. Unfortunately, the bad part of our visit was the decor. The restaurant is located in a strip mall which has seen better days. Seats at the booth are torn up.....literally. The tables are outdated. The floor is in pretty bad shape, especially near the bar area. And in the bathroom, the paper towel dispenser was not connected to the wall and instead, laying on the floor. It's not comfortable washing your hands and then turning it sideways where you can get paper. I really don't mean to sound mean,, but the decor alone would turn folks away. It needs a big renovation all around. Hopefully, down the road, they can upgrade or they may become a thing of the past :( read more

Portions are HUGE. The food was so flavorful and delicious. The server was friendly but told us the food would take 15 mins (we got it to go), ended up going to the dollar tree and came back and have to wait at least another 15 mins. The chicken arrived dry with a leather-like exterior. This must have been under a heat light for hours or was reheated. The fried yucca was also quite dry. The Spanish rice was moist but bland. I did not eat all the chicken but my dogs enjoyed it immensely. read more

I debated for a while about this review and giving it either a 2 or 3 as it was more of a 2.5. Service was slow and the waitress didn't come back to check on us between taking our order and bringing out our food. They only had two tables in the dining room including the one we were occupying. She was busy with doing to-go orders but it would have been nice for her to check on us. Margarita was large but not very strong! Now the food was fine. I got the grilled chicken which came with tortillas (corn or flour), rice and beans, and a salad. The dressing that came with the salad was good. The chicken was seasoned well and made a nice little taco. I gave my beans to my husband as I'm not a refried beans fan and he loved them. Rice was delicious! The place wasn't fancy but it was authentic. Great portions and flavorful. With a mixture of Latin food and decor, the most pronounced flavor was Central American. It was lunch time and we saw many people pick up or workers have their lunch meal there. Our waitress was Spanish speaking and pretty fast. I ordered a very tasty chicken salad and it didn't disappoint with its generous portion and even with a generous sour cream scoop on top. I wanted to try the Peruvian option but they no longer had the pollo a la huancaina available and that day they didn't have any pisco which is one of my favorite alcoholic beverages to have when it's on the menu. You won't leave here hungry and they make sure of that by even having a little Spanish super market right next door. Very decent place, and worth what you pay! Lunchtime buffet for 8.99 is about what you would expect. Lots of rice and tortillas, with basic beef & chicken fajita/taco meat. Good value, but not what we were looking for. I had lingua torta, wife had pupusas; she won. Torta was filling and bread was great, but lingua was diced and cooked to death! Little cubes of bitter almost-charcoal. (And I love well prepared lingua! It's my go-to!). Pupusa options she chose were cheese, chicharone and chicken. Chicharone was lacking filling. We went to El Sabroson on a whim since our normal casual eatery was not open. Outdated inside which is fine. Food took a while to come out, but the waitress was very friendly. The Taquitos with guac were decent. Chicken was very dry in our main dish. Decent flavor but couldn't get past how dry it was. This is what I left upset with: the bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. No soap, floors were grimy and gritty. Toilet and sink hadn't been cleaned in what seemed like weeks. This is unacceptable. If I had seen the state of the bathroom before we ate dinner, I would have walked out immediately. We will not be back. I do not recommend this establishment. read more

Went for lunch. Ambiance is not fancy, but comfortable. Had camarones al a diabla "for those who like it extra hot". It was absolutely excellent and super hot. My wife had taco salad. We went for lunch but didn't want to get their buffet so we looked at their rather extensive menu. Decided on Torta lengua for hubby and 3 different pupusas for me, chicharron, lochorro which is a Mexican flower with queso, and chicken with mozzarella. The chips with salsa were standard but when asked for the hot salsa they did provide a good one. Pupusas were greasy and rather flat, especially the chicharron one. The benies were the authentic atmosphere as most of the clients were Mexican and Mexican music was playing as well as the server being obviously either Mexican or Latin American. Horchata was served so that was delightful to see. Next door is a grocery store selling Mexican goods. We stopped in and purchased a couple of items. read more

The food and service is very good. My wife and I enjoyed a meal with tacos with the Charcoal Chicken and fresh guacamole. The chips and salsa was great. I really enjoyed the salsa! We also got a Mi Canton Combo with chicken and pork with cheese. Food was fresh and very well made. You can tell they cared for the ingredients and spent time with making the meal. We will return! The only drop of star is due to the wear on things in the restaurant. Things just need a bit more maintenance on seating and the tables are in need of some attention with all that said it is very clean! This little gem located next to a Hispanic grocery store is one you must not miss. The Salteado is totally delicious. We also had pupusas and they are the best I ever had. They are tender, chesee and super tasty. Flavors are mild but right on point. If you want more spiking flavors they give you a cabbage slaw and a sauce that is great with everything. The food was luke warm at best, not very tasty as far as flavor goes. The waitress was friendly enough and the service was good. Drinks were replenished in a timely manner. I would not give them a second chance. The prices are low, but I wouldn't mind paying more, if it were worth it. Darling Bride and I found this place on Yelp, and after our last Yelp-guided foray into Latin American food, we were more than happy to hop in. The yuca with chicharones appetizer was mounded high as a Mayan pyramid, and we dug through it like a pair of 1930s archaeologists. The yuca was expertly prepared and the pork was as succulent as I could ever hope! I got an order of 3 tacos: 2 tacos al pastor (Pork and pineapple) and one lengua - beef tongue. They were delicious, but not very spicy. Darling Bride pointed out the salsa bar, which I had missed, but by then it was too late. I had devoured my portion. My sweetie decided to get an order of 3 pupusas- two revueltas, which are pork, beans, and cheese, and one papas y queso. The revueltas were delicious, if just a touch greasy. The potatoes in the third one were mostly mashed, but still had some texture, and the cheese was fresh and melty. Both kinds were improved by adding the provided sauce, but were also delicious on their own. Our drinks were a horchata (delicious but slightly gritty), and a chicha morada, which was half lemonade and half iced tea. I would have called it a Chi Chi Rodriguez, since it's basically a Mexican Arnold Palmer, but that's just me. We rounded off the meal (and our bellies) with flan. Because flan. It was all that flan should be- thick and rich and creamy and caramel. A great ending to an excellent meal. An appetizer, two entrees, two drinks and a flan brought our total to $34.37 including tax (before tip). And we discovered that they have a lunch buffet! This restaurant was the first latin restaurant which made me love Latin food. I used to think I wasn't a fan of latib food but boy was I wrong. I was on a short trip to Williamsburg and ate here lunch and dinner both in the same day, ordered the exact same thing: Pollo Cameron and a mango margherita. They were both so gooooood. I tried a few other stuff like beef and cheese nacho thing and three different kinds of pupusas. All so very good. We were traveling through the Williamsburg area while on a road trip. Based on Yelp recommendations, we checked out El Sabroson primarily because the food seemed unique. I believe it is a Peruvian/Ecuadorian/Mexican mix. We enjoyed our food. We ordered the Mex Saltado and the Pollo al la Brasa (based on Yelp recommendations). The Mex Saltado was a combination of steak and chicken with onion, potatoes and tomatoes served with rice. Pollo al la Brasa came with two sides, so I ordered the spanish rice and fried plantains. The Pollo also came with two dipping sauces - one seemed to be a mint sauce and the other a bit like a honey-mustard type sauce (not sure). The food seemed like home-style cooking. It was tasty, nothing fancy, but good. The meal also came with chips and salsa. And there was a salsa bar if you wanted to enhance your meal with other flavors. read more

I went to this place to pick up a Doordash horrible experience. The place was full of smoke dirty tables all over the place and unfriendly staff. Upon arrival, I stood around looking for someone who could help me and saw no one for at least 10 min. When someone finally came around I asked them how long my order would be and she just glared at me said nothing and walked off. This was rude and totally unacceptable. To my knowledge this restaurant is not closed; I just ate there (dine in) on June 20, 2021. I love this spot because it features a wide variety of Latin food to choose from; their menu ranges from Peruvian charcoal chicken to traditional Mexican and Salvadorean dishes. I have tried a variety of dishes here, and the food has been consistently great each time I've visited. This time I got the Mi Canton combo, which features pupusas, rice and beans, and maduros. The pupusas were piping hot and super cheesy, with lots of flavor. The salsas and relishes also really stood out on this visit; the flavors of all were excellent. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is because sometimes the service can depend a bit on the night you visit. However, when we last visited, the service was excellent (our waiter appeared to be the only one working the floor and was very attentive despite having to multi-task quite a bit). They also have a great tienda attached to the restaurant. Definitely a place to check out while in Williamsburg! read more

Hands down the best value for Latin American and Mexican food in Williamsburg. The lunch prices are crazy cheap and the dinners are reasonable. Not a fan of the taco bar, but their fajitas and chori pollo are on point for the price. It can get busy during tourist season, but it's usually easy to walk in as get a table right away.
