I placed an online order at this location across town because my local store did not have the product in stock.. I received an email confirmation that the order has been placed. I received an email confirmation that the order was ready for pick up. I called the store to make sure that the order actually was there and ready for pick up because it is a 30 minute drive in traffic. The person I spoke with put me on hold to check and make sure the order was actually there and ready for pick up and she assured me it was. I drove to the store to be stand at the counter for 15 minutes while they searched the computer for my order. When they found it they told me "sorry, we don't have your order and have not had the product in stock all day. No, we can't give you a refund, but they will process it tomorrow." I called the corporate office and they confirmed that the Store, not "the system" confirmed that the order was ready for pick up Hard to imagine how any place could be run more incompetently run. read more

Bought a chainsaw here online when I learned it'd be cheaper to buy the chainsaw than to have someone come out and remove the fallen tree in my yard. Came to pick it up during the covid19 pandemic and they were great! Delivered to my trunk. I have had an issue with it (my fault, probably) twice and both times I came back to have it looked at. I'm kinda pissed. I went to Ace Hardware on Saturday to get my mailbox key duplicated. I chose Ace because I heard they had non-automatic key grinders that could do mailbox keys better than, say, Lowe's or Walmart. I walked into Ace and first noticed the "dark basement" kind of smell. It's kind of a small place and honestly the smell wasn't very offensive. I was still willing to give this a shot, but in hindsight this should have been the first Dark Omen (DO). I walked in and was immediately greeted by a smiling cashier. Friendly points, yay! I asked where to get a key duplicated and an older gentleman sidled up beside me and said, "That'd be my job, ma'am." Pleasantries points, yay! He then got too close for comfort and gave me a weird and unwelcome side hug and agreed to make two copies of said key, then bring them to me elsewhere if I wanted to browse. The side-hug was strange, but not a deal breaker. Yet, it was DO #2. OK, unapproved affectionate acts aside, I happily browsed floor cleaners and faucets. Upon touching a faucet display, I accidentally removed it from the wall (I swear I only touched it! -- DO#3) but it went back up easily and no one saw. Older Affectionate Gentleman (OAG) came and found me, apologized for taking a long time and showed me where to check out. Friendly Cashier Girl (FCG) charged me $6.10 for the two keys and I walked out a fairly happy customer. Upon coming home, I was excited to have finally checked "make two copies of the mailbox key" off of my To-Do list. I even considered going back to Ace to buy that floor cleaner because of happy FCG (and despite of OAG). What do I find? The freaking keys do not work. Yes, I should have clarified with OAG that the key machine could handle mailbox keys, but he never said anything about the possibility it wouldn't work. Yes, I should have directly compared the original and new keys in the presence of OAG, but I just wanted to get out of there. Upon thorough examination, there is a right angle cut in the original key and on the duplicates, it is a gradual slope. PISSED. I am going to update my To-Do list with "Go back to Ace" and "Find a new hardware store," try returning these keys, and will update you with this new story. read more

I have used Richland Ace Hardware for over 30 years now. From the time I was a new homeowner until now when I have been doing this for decades, the staff at Ace has always gone the extra mile to help me fix things myself. They have also showed me how to install a diy watering system for my entire yard that has worked for over 25 years at 2 houses. No matter what my question or problem, they have always had an answer or referred me to someone else who does. Yes, they are more expensive than big box stores but you are paying for high touch service, quality advice, as well as the correct product for your needs. Small hardware stores remind me of Happy Days where Mr. Cunningham always has what you need. ACE seems to deliver. I call before I go there. Their selection is not as extensive as the larger stores, but they make up with service and nice and informative workers. I enjoy coming here and if you have an issue, they address it. My interaction with ACE has always been good, from SC to GA to TN. We went for a small piece of a disposal. Re read that. SMALL piece of a disposal. Not an easy find. Why would they have it...they would not, but JIC we had to try and they looked. When I got there, they said they had looked but it was not to be found. I told them the brand of the disposal and they gave me names of their competitors. Their sales are also very good. I have made many phone calls for sleds in the past years when it starts to snow and they hold me a sled. I don't keep sleds because we have moved often and get rid of things. After a few years, I make the call again. Although not the largest store, probably the nicest, most informative store compared to the larger stores a few miles away. Entrance is open market like and on the right going into town and on the left leaving town. Definitely a neighborhood hardware store, just like the Cunninghams had in the 50's on Happy Days. read more

Thank goodness for Ace Hardware! I was having trouble finding an auger drillbit to plant bulbs in my front yard. Couldn't find it at Lowes or at Home Depot. Finally thought about calling Ace Hardware. A very helpful gentleman called me back a little bit later, described each of the versions they had in stock, and provided prices for each. When we arrived at the store, we were greeted in a friendly fashion and pointed in the direction of the needed item. We were very happy with the service. Another reviewer of this store obviously has never been in a "real" hardware store before. Considering the antiseptic and somewhat artificial big-box "hardware stores" that most people patronize, it is no wonder that someone might not recognize the smell of an old-fashioned hardware store. Everyone is always so helpful here. I have been painting my new home (first time home buyer and never really bought paint before). I had bought a couple things that didn't work out and I called and they said they would be able to exchange/return. I just needed different colors. When I got there they said they do not return but I explained that someone told me they do and they still honored my exchange, and I bought additional items as well. They were very nice about it even though someone told me the wrong thing on the phone. I realize I won't be able to going refund/exchange going forward but the fact that they still honored it, says a lot. I will definitely be coming back here. read more

I had a great experience at the Richland Ace Hardware store this morning! I went in only know what BM paint colors I wanted and had someone immediately greet me and pull each color sample for me to see. The man mixing my paint helped me determine how much and what exact paint would be best for my job. I'm painting a rental and when he found that out, he actually recommended the CHEAPEST paint. No push to up-sell me something that wouldn't make sense in a short-term home. He loaded them into a cart, pushed it to checkout for me, and offered to help me load it into my car. I was VERY impressed with his service! I would definitely return to this store for any future paint needs. read more

Forget this store and go to the Ace on Harding if you need stuff. This store is more cluttered than your Aunt's attic. It's dirty and rather disorganized, making it extremely difficult to find the prices on the wares. Today upon trying to purchase masking tape, we found three different prices. The price listed below where the tape hung ($1.99), the price the manager told me ($2.99), and the price that rang up on the register ($3.99). As if that isn't confusing enough, they rudely intimated that those price discrepancies are my problem, because I make mistakes in my line of work too and they've been there 65 years. Huh??? Went there several years ago, haven't been there since! I was there to pick up items they were donating to a school fundraiser. I did not solicit these items merely picking up on the school's behalf. Asked for the manager, as I was told to do, and he refused to give me items! He was rude and denied any such arrangements were made. Left empty handed.
