Our kitchen, like our home more generally, dates to the late 1940s. Our cabinets were beginning to fall apart. Our vinyl flooring was at the end of its useful life. The countertops were simply outdated. The layout of the kitchen was neither pleasing to look at nor efficient to use. Our bathroom remodel turned out beautiful and we are happy with the final result. We gave 4 stars primarily due to the project management, time management and staffing approach. The company sent only one person to handle the entire job--plumbing, electrical, drywall, tile, and finish carpentry--which led to delays and some frustrations from the contractor. Because he was working alone, there were several late evenings during our dinners and even weekend work, including one night where work continued until 10 PM before he had to travel out of the country. This resulted in a few items being left unfinished, and we had to wait about three weeks for those final details to be completed. Additionally, we often had to make last-minute trips to purchase extra supplies, which could have been avoided with more planning and a two-person crew. The contractor did bring his teenage son at times; while he was polite and helpful, we were expecting licensed-level skill throughout the project given the high cost of the project. Overall, we genuinely liked the contractor they sent and feel he takes pride in his work. The finished bathroom is beautiful. We simply feel the process should have been smoother, quicker, and less stressful with additional support or a small team in place. read more

We've had a mixed experience working with GVD. We have a beautifully redone bathroom/laundry room, with some unique requests that came out (mostly) well, like converting a door to a window to make room for a shower. Unfortunately, there are some major setbacks that anyone deciding on working with them should keep in mind. Not only is the work taking 5+ months longer than originally estimated (there have been no major house issues that should have caused this delay), but their reason for delay is pretty simply poor project management. The first delay was that they forgot to order our tile on time and the tile of choice was back ordered, and the second is that they forgot that our project wasn't finished after the interior was done 2 months ago. The lack of organization required to forget that they have left our house unfinished and unworked on for months and without final payment is beyond me. To really put the cherry on top, the exterior finishing work that is still needed was originally quoted as "matching" our existing siding. Now they are telling us (after we asked them when they were coming back to finish our project) that they only do horizontal wood lap siding and cannot match our brick exterior. We would normally be open to this if it had been brought up in the beginning, but they mislead us by thinking they could match the brick. The overall price also does not reflect this change, and now we are worried they overcharged us. They haven't even told us when workers will be sent out to finish or how long it will take. In summary, the project could have been finished quicker, cheaper, and with significantly better communication. I wish I could recommend the company as the work indoors turned out beautifully, but the fact that we're still sitting in an unfinished house with no end in sight leads me to think they don't care about their final product or customer satisfaction. read more

This review is for all prospective customers considering hiring GVD Renovations. I know it looks like GVD Renovations has 5 stars and A+ BBB rating, but I am telling you to be very careful. My goal is to alert potential customers to mistakes I made & provide suggestions to hopefully prevent one from having the same chaotic, painful & very expensive experience I had. I am warning everyone that as nice as these people seem - it is all a farce. They are not kind, they are not honest, they have no integrity at all. Before you all ask - I already filed complaints with BBB & the CA Contractors State License Board. I held off on this review until all of the outstanding issues at my house were fixed for fear GVD would refuse to fix things if I posted this any sooner. - I signed a contract in July 2024, my original documented completion date was September 27, 2024. GVD did not even start work until October 2024. I have a text message from the project manager (PM) stating "You will be enjoying Thanksgiving in your new kitchen". I did not move in until January 29, 2025. As of Easter 2025, I was still waiting for cracked & crooked cabinets/drawers to be replaced or repaired. - In July 2024, I selected the quartz material for the kitchen & bathrooms (one pattern for the bathrooms & one pattern for the kitchen). There was plenty of material at the granite/quartz store. I heard nothing from GVD for 6 weeks as to scheduling a start date or demo. It took nagging (via text, email & telephone) & adding other people to the text thread in September to get the PM to finally acknowledge me. He quickly told me the quartz was "out of stock." The PM NEVER ordered it and sure by September it was all gone! SUGGESTION - Purchase your own counter material & put it on hold for GVD to pick it up months later if they ever start work. - In that same September text thread the PM said he was "waiting for sentrel to arrive" - I had no idea who or what sentrel was - I seriously thought it was a typo. It turns out sentrel is acrylic shower enclosure material...I never discussed or ordered acrylic. I selected Piedrafina marble material for my shower enclosures. The PM NEVER read the contract to even know what material was being used. SUGGESTION: BEFORE you sign demand a meeting with the estimator & the PM to make sure the project manager knows what the job is. - I was told multiple times I was getting "custom" cabinets. I signed a document stating the cabinets were custom & could not be returned. Yelp limits the length of reviews so I can't give all the details I want. One cabinet had sticker with Manufacture date August 2023, this job did not start until 2024. I have a shelf unit that is so undersized for the space it looks ridiculous. When I complained GVD said there could be "variances". SUGGESTION: MAKE GVD specify how large of "VARIANCES" in advance and where! - Most of the cabinets arrived cracked or damaged in other ways. Yes, GVD eventually got everything corrected, but they had no idea they no longer had a local cabinet rep and as a result this process took forever. If GVD showed any interest or value in their business partners they should have known there was no local rep. - The counter guy arrived to install bathroom counters, but he had the kitchen counter material in his van. He said that was the only material at the shop under my name. PM never ordered bathroom counters! - There was no set work schedule. Weeks went by with no work. One day two guys came & worked for 1 hour. No communication, no organization, no professionalism at all. - I have a great story about shower doors, but Yelp limits the length of reviews so "fun" details omitted: Summary GVD's glass guy was going to charge $4300 for shower door (for a style I did NOT want). My glass guy charged $2900 for the shower doors I wanted & two bathroom mirrors. SUGGESTION: Never trust GVD subcontractors. - RED FLAG - In 2024, GVD had 1-3 ads in my residential community magazine every month for the entire year. It is now May 2025 & there has not been one single GVD ad in the magazine. A realtor told me she had a client who had similar issues with this company. - GVD can't measure! I have attached a few photos. There are many more. Fine everything was corrected, but 8 months for a 4 week job is ridiculous. BE CAREFUL HIRING GVD RENOVATIONS. FYI - The PM is no longer with the company. I wonder why?? GVD is going to say they fulfilled the contract and fixed all the problems. However, most of the problems were avoidable and this job never should have taken 8 months. We recently had the pleasure of working with GVD Renovations for our siding project, and from start to finish, the entire process was absolutely seamless. Their prices were competitive and very reasonable given the quality of work and service we received. Our experience began with Patrick Newbold, who came out to give us an estimate. He was personable, friendly, and knowledgeable. Maria in the office was incredibly prompt and helpful, quickly providing us with proof of liability insurance so we could submit the project to our HOA for approval. She also kept us updated with invoices and payment receipts we requested. Nik was assigned as our project manager and served as our main point of contact. He was consistently responsive, easy to reach, and available for questions or issues that came up. Because we chose a siding color outside of our HOA's typical palette, we had to wait months for a Board of Directors meeting to get approval. Nik took the time to attend the meeting with us, in case there were any questions. The entire project was completed in just eight days! On Day 1, they handled all demo, placed plywood in the gables where there previously was none, replaced rotted plywood, and placed all new vents. By Day 2, the house was completely wrapped. On Day 3, they started on trim. On Day 4, the started on the siding. By Day 7, everything was in--siding, trim, porch lights, downspouts, and even leaf gutter guards. The final 8th day was for touch-ups and finishing details. My husband and I are very detail-oriented and admittedly picky when it comes to craftsmanship. Prior to selecting GVD, we actually drove around the Bay Area to check out completed jobs from various contractors and GVD's work stood out consistently. We even researched James Hardie siding installation standards on YouTube to ensure they did it correctly, and we can confidently say they did everything by the book. Even the city inspector that came at the end of the project remarked, "I wish everyone would do it this cleanly." We did run into a few expected change orders along the way, but GVD handled them beautifully. They upgraded our downspouts, added leaf gutter guards, and even tracked down fire-resistant Vulcan Vents at our request--all of which we're very happy with. The installation crew, largely Ukrainian, was fantastic. While not everyone spoke fluent English, there was always someone available who did, and communication was never a problem. A big shout-out to Greg, David, Nik (the dad), Igor, Edik, and Vaysa (apologies if we got any names wrong or forgot anyone!). They worked hard, were respectful of our property, and cleaned up thoroughly at the end of each day. We truly cannot recommend GVD Renovations enough. GVD has great quality. Their schedule to get the work done went over a couple weeks but it was worth it. Costs are a little higher than some contractors but I think thats because their quality comes out better than many. GVD is a solid contractor with many trades inhouse. This is nice because they can better maintain the quality that way and get guys out same day or next to work on things if needed. Tile work, texturing, and solid wood floors came out amazing. The hydroblock material they use for the shower is a newer product for me to see but is great over hot mop or other ways to build it. Most of their crew takes pride in their craftsmanship talking with many of them throughout the project and it really shows at the end how they finish their work. I have dealt with many contractors in my life for work and home, some really bad ones, but GVD is a solid choice to check out. read more

After doing some research on siding companies I decided to give GVD Renovations a call. I left them a message and they quickly gave me a call back. They asked me what was the best time to have a sales rep come out to look at the job and give us an estimate. We agreed on a date and time which was within a couple of days from me calling. The day of the estimate Gary McAlister came out and was on time and very professional. We walked around the project together with him pointing out what they could do for us. Terrible customer service by sales and project manager, Vlad.. and accounting was worse! 2 years after completion of our shower remodel, they "discovered" a $3500 check that was never deposited and then attempted to deposit the stale dated check, rather than call us with an explanation and request for payment. No clear invoices of materials that we paid for and continual denial of communications that occurred even when presented with voice mail from project manager in 2023 that indicated some consideration. We have an old house with two layers of siding (deteriorating cedar sidewall shingles over shiplap) that needed to be removed before replacement with Hardie siding. Also needed high second story windows replaced. It was a large complicated retrofit job. The crew was great, nice guys and always cleaned up afterwards. The result looks great. It was completed in half the time estimates of other contractor bid. The crew is Ukrainian speaking with limited English but the project manger is available by phone or text. So I contacted GVD Renovations & Remodeling for a quote to replace the exterior siding of my home with Hardie Board. They came out and provided the most expensive quote of all contractors I met with and wanted to replace not only the exterior siding but my shear walls and interior plywood that was in perfect shape! They basically wanted to double pad the cost versus what others mentioned. I told them and the sales guy was upset when I called him on it and how they broke down the materials and labor costs. They were one of a few recommended contractors by the James Hardie company who were qualified to install Hardie Plank. When we met with Andy from GVD it was clear from the start that they were going to be the best fit for our project. Andy was very clear about what they would be doing, how the process worked, and what the time frame was going to be. He answered all questions during our meeting, and several that I had afterward. One of my big pet peeves are contractors that do not respond to calls/emails, but Andy and Vlad were always easy to reach during the project, returning calls in a timely fashion, and answering questions as they came up. The project was large, and there were some unexpected minor delays, but in the end our house is absolutely beautiful. They did a fantastic job, even going the extra mile and putting siding on our little door to the crawl space under our house. Just wanted to say couple things about GVD. I was sending them couple messages and requests but no one responded to me for some time.. Then when I send messages to other guys I received message from them. Surprise... I was not expecting anything but I said let's see if they will come or they will ignore it because they are to busy.. I will give them credit that they did called and scheduled an appointment after my reply to their automated message to my request. Salesman showed up on time but I don't think he was interested to answer my questions and during our conversation he seemed to be not aware of some things. I understand that he is just a salesman but still it would be great to have more education about shower remodeling. But he did his part to send me estimate quote.
