Dan at ABD came to my house to provide an estimate for replacing my back deck. We wanted to demo the old deck and replace with a smaller 208sf deck. Dan was on time and very professional. Dan provided an onsite quote of $25,000. I asked if this included the permit. He said he doesn't always get permits, especially if the property is set back from a street where people can't see the work being performed. I asked about financing options and he had one of his lenders send me the application for financing, but after reading the fine print, I realized that the lender wanted to put a lien on my home to secure the loan. After Dan got back to his office he sent me a contract for the work but the contract didn't include a cost breakdown. I called Dan and told him that my county requires a permit for the job, and we need to hire a contractor to handle the drawings and permit process for us. Dan was not familiar with the permit process for our county and said he would have to make some calls. He said he would have to hire an architect for the drawings and verbally told me it would cost approximately $7,500. I asked if he had any other lenders that offer unsecured loans. He said he would talk to his finance dept. and back to me. After the call, I sent Dan a text letting him know that I would be contacting other contractors for quotes. Dan immediately responded with better unsecured loan option at 6.9% interest. I let Dan know that I would get back to him after reviewing other quotes. After meeting with other contractors we decided a cheaper way to complete this project would be to build a landing and staircase to the ground instead of a deck. I called Dan and he said he could build the staircase for $8,500 but permit with drawing would cost an additional $6,500. I asked him about the other lender he had mentioned before with the unsecured loan, and he said he would speak to his finance dept. and get back to me. That was the last time I heard from Dan and he never got back to me. ABD may have great reviews online, but I don't think people hear about customer's experiences who decide not to hire them. Just wanted people to be aware of their un-permitted work practices, their lenders that try to put a lien on your home and contracts with no price breakdown. read more

I had a really wonderful experience using American Building Development. My house had a bunch of exterior rot and to be honest it was a bit overwhelming looking for the right company that could tackle this project. I had some unique issues that they were able to take care of like some rotted eaves and installing windows and doors that I provided. They were able to do pretty much everything I wanted to the exterior of the house which looks amazing. They had great pricing and worked extremely fast and efficient. The onsite crew was amazing with high attention to detail, especially flashing everything according to James Hardie specifications. I'm so impressed with the results and the materials they used are sooooo much nicer than what you can get at Home Depot or Lowes. Tim the estimator and Dimitri were incredibly sweet, polite, and helpful during the entire process. I appreciated that they spoke to me as an equal to my husband (not always the case with some guys in construction). Their team was also super knowledgeable about the best way to get the fence installed so it was very safe and structurally sound and they took their time making sure it was done perfectly. We found ABD through the Hardie Board site as they are recommended by Hardie. We had the front of our house refaced with 8" lap Hardie board, some stucco repair work on a window and the whole exterior repainted. We could not be happier with the quality of the work and the new looking home we have. Alex and the siding crew were great as was Vitalli and his painting crew. Our salesperson, Phil was tuned in to our requests and did a thorough job of communication and follow up. We especially liked the fact that everyone that worked on our project was an employee of the company so there were no subcontractors involved. The price was considerably less than others quoted us, and the work was done on time and the site cleaned up beautifully when the job was complete. The only issues were with suppliers not having products or sending ABD broken items. So that was out of their control. So that slowed things down a little. All I can say is, American Building Development did an amazing job on two multifamily projects for us, (1) rebuilding the front second floor walkway and six back decks in an apartment complex and (2) completely rebuilding a second floor back deck with a new stairway. I needed help with Dry, rot repair on the large beam in front of the house as well as a lot of facia. When we walked the house, they found more problems than I didn't even knew about. They didn't raise the price. They just included it in the work. I was not planning to fix the broken door in the back leading to the garage, but the price was too good not to get it done. They are super friendly when they first show up and they give you fare bI'd. But that's where everything changes. We had our roof done which went well. But then replacing siding and painting prices doubled and tripled. They are slow giving receipts, which we are still waiting on correct ones to reflect what was paid and not the bids. Staff of American Building Development were hired to work on our primary bathroom. Vitalli fixed our subfloor that previously contained dry rot. It took much longer than anticipated but was completed thoroughly and the site was left clean. Mike is planned to complete the floor/shower tile and drywall repairs. We also had the pleasure of meeting Dan although he is not on this project. So far everything has been fine. We would maybe recommend this company. We needed some carpentry work before painting the outside of our house. We will only work with licensed, bonded and insured contractors. Unlike almost every contractor we contacted, ABD responded quickly. ABD's estimate was a few thousand dollars less than our first estimate. They were on time on a Monday morning and all workers were ready to work. A 3 day job was completed in 1 day as they were able to put 2 teams on the job. When additional damage was found, we thought we could do the work ourselves. The workers assisted us with removing panels at no charge. Everything was cleaned up. We were very impressed.
