So I managed my parent's account for several years as initially it was really the only option they had until they eventually learned they could switch to another provider. My parents are old and were susceptible to online scams, to which I had to completely rebuild their systems, lock them down, and instruct them on how these things work. That said, I live 20-30 min from them, and playing tech support was always extremely difficult. So I opted to use remote desktop through a secure shell tunnel. Unfortunately, GVTC does NOT give you the ability to configure your own router and create pinholes. Instead you have to ask them to do it and I don't mean to sound insulting, but they were incompetent on how to set it up. They didn't understand very basic networking terms, and after far too many calls and follow ups, I ended up having to pay for a remote desktop service. Additionally, GVTC's fees are high, Internet speeds are slow, the television service is subpar, and their email server did not allow for third party logon (i.e. like Outlook) without going through a complex app approval process. I do not recommend these folks in the least, and if you have no terrestrial based options other than GVTC, go with satellite (Starlink, Hughesnet, or similar). Latency might suck, but believe me that you will prefer it over the poor service provided by GVTC. read more

I live close to Wilderness Oak and 281. I have had GVTC for ten years: I'm a professional reliability engineer and have had less than two hours downtime related to GVTC equipment/infrastructure. Running five systems during Covid: 1. Teenager with constant zoom calls and gaming. 2. Two college students attending online. 3. Significant Other is a business analyst for a major bank. 4. I would stay away from this company if possible. The customer service is atrocious. We set up services and immediately started having connection issues. My husband works from home and every 2 hours on the dot the internet was completely disconnected. After over a month of trying to figure it out lots of wait time on hold (an average of 30-60 min) and two technicians to our house, over 3 troubleshooting calls we finally decided to cancel. The last person I spoke to when I was canceling said they have a security feature that will disconnect the internet every 2 hours if we are not using their modem, and they just have to change the settings so that doesn't happen. Too bad I just signed up for another company. Why didn't the first person tell us this?? Then they said there's a $300 early termination fee. You can see on my account how many times I called in to try to get your internet to work. It's absolutely horrible. And the technicians were beyond rude and disrespectful. Impossible to avoid around here but do so if you can. Prepare for your install and sales person to provide zero information as to when your bill is going to come or how to access it. Expect it to never arrive, and call them inquiring about that whereabouts of it, and discover they Never even sent you the Email with your Account number and account access info, charge you a late fee, and say they will send you the email as it's the only reason you called, and then only send you a feedback report instead of anything of value and then close for the day and shutoff your wifi and charge you another late fee. I was told a static IP address would be set up within a few hours after calling them at 8:13 am and I would receive a call later that afternoon whenever the service was completed. They were quick to tell me that I would be charged an extra $15 a month and quick to sell me a security camera and two days later nothing has been done. I have called every night to check the status on my service and I continue getting the run around. This service is prudent to my ability to work from home not for entertainment or fun. I have received an invoice from GVTC and the cost has been raised for the past three months without explanation from GVTC. Not sure if they sent this in an e-mail or missed it in their invoicing. I have internet and tv service. My October bill was $235.95, November was $242.36, December was $251.80, and January was $259.06. Who knows what February's bill will be and it's a short month. I called customer service (difficult to reach as you have to listen to several minutes of about them closing their offices-you know Covid-19, register a new account as account numbers have changed, etc.). None-the-less, finally reached a person and was told it was anniversary date (does that always mean price gouge-oops, I mean price increase) and additional fee for the US coffers-Broadcast TV surcharge. Again, no written explanation that I am aware of. Is it time to look elsewhere or will I need to take a second mortgage to pay the cable bill? read more

Literally the worst customer service imaginable. I have attempted to cancel service at my cottage for 2 months. I have retired and rented it out. I called initially and was told I needed to 'mail cancellation paperwork' - REALLY IN 2022! But I did that. Still not cancelled. Then I emailed and called again - more hoops to jump through, more transferring between departments. Still not cancelled. I had my local realestate agent get involved. Still not cancelled. Now, over 2 months after my first attempt, I spoke to 4 people on the phone this morning - it required yelling but it I believe it is perhaps finally cancelled. Four phone calls, totaling 46 minutes of long distance from TASMANIA! Probably cost me $200 in phone calls just today. Take my advice - get the best cell phone plan available and stream from that. Avoid any dealings with GVTC - it is a monopoly and therefore they COULD NOT GIVE A DAMN ANOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE. If cell coverage is not sufficient, I believe Starlink coverage is almost here. Updating my review: again I'll say employees are great! They do whatever they can to get things right. My internet never got better with their upgraded equipment. I invested in a mesh network for my home and haven't had many issues since. As a result of my equipment, my tv streaming issues are better. We now watch our PPV through a streaming service not on GVTC channels. I'm currently weaning us off cable channels to streaming channels because my $248 GVTC bill every month is a little much for the one or two channels we actually watch. So I'm updating my review to 3 stars instead of 1 because: a) great employees, b) reliability of internet is improved but, c) their equipment still sucks. read more

I called to cancel services we no longer use including cable. I spent 1+ hour on hold before I got a live person on the phone. She took everything down and then instructed me to return all cable boxes to the Boerne store, which I did promptly. Several weeks later, we get the March bill and it does not reflect any of the changes -- i.e., we are still getting billed for the services we cancelled. I've had GVTC for over 8 years. I'm not here to write and destroy a businesss or put down any workers. The review I'm about to write will be fair and accurate. Customer Service: GVTC has probably the best customer support team in the business. They return calls and get back to you within a short period to discuss your problem. Cable TV I have over a 100 channels and the equipment used to watch those channels is not bad to use. However, it can be frustrating at times to go through the menu software and window selections. The software feels a little cumbersome and antiquated at times. Home Phone I have the hard line phone as part of the Cable, Wifi and Phone package. I don't use it and wish they won't charge me for it. WIFI I have a 4000 sq ft home and the WIFI Calix GigaSpire router seems to cover most of the house, but there are a few dead spots, which I covered with an extender. The WIFI seems to be working fine. If it wasn't, I'm sure I would of heard it from my two kids; 14 & 20. Anytime it goes out they chirp like a baby bird wanting food. Haven't heard them in a while. GVTC INTERNET WEBSITE Okay, this is where I have to put the hammer down. (GVTC) Guadalupe Valley's Terrible Connection. You had the option to watch several programs through their old website. Shows you had access to on the TV were available to you through their website. They installed a new website about a 1 1/2 year's ago and it's awful. I like to watch ID and I tried to find it on their site. My kids had both TVs. So, I thought I would go to the computer and view the program. Well, first of all it's a real pain to locate any program to view. Next, when you visit the program schedule, you would think once you click on the show, it would take you to the program. No, it doesn't. You would think they would put a link there to go directly to viewing the program. It just has limited program information. No place to watch Live TV and believe me, I have searched and even called customer service about it. They certainly promote OTHER movies and shows for a fee, but what you are already paying for and expect to see on the website is not there. They took that service away and didn't reduce my bill. Costs What I'm upset the most is they removed a service and yet, didn't decrease my monthly bill. My average bill amounted to $185.00 per month (with Phone, WIFI & Cable Channels, w/o paid subscriptions like HBO or Showtime) Once a year they review my subscription and offer me discounts so the costs don't rise too much. Well, my year was up about a month ago. I called them when I saw my monthly bill rise from $185 to $220!!!! Well, guess what? They didn't have any discounts to give me and said to call back in November. This is a $35 a month increase. I honestly won't be staying and I'm researching the new outfit call Fubo TV, which has basically the same channels via their website. I would have to go through Roku or Apple Tv and keep GVTC WIFI, but I'll be saving $90 a month. Fubo $65/month and GVTC WIFI $65/mo. I think this will be my next move. Privacy One last thing I'd like mention is GVTC produces a phone book once a year. Yes, an actual physical paper phone book listing my name address and phone number. I presume it's mailed out to all their customers. I am a pretty private individual and a lot of Americans are as well. I wish they would have asked if I wanted my information listed in the phone book. I would have said no. But maybe to do that, they would charge a monthly fee. I don't know. The internet service is terrible, incredibly slow and they don't spend the capital to upgrade their product. I am very unhappy with GVTC. I tried to cancel my landline ,which is around $40.00 monthly since I don't need it anymore. I was told my bill would GO UP $25.00 monthly if cancelled instead of going down $40.00. WTF??? I was really angry and told the lady at GVTC and she simply hang up on me. Upload Speeds Now 250 Mbps A few days ago I noticed a bump to 250 Mbps upload. The 500/100 plan appears to now be 500/250. No official word from GVTC other than a blog post saying this would happen in 2019. We (at least my neighborhood per the community Facebook page) did have a brief outage last night that resulted in a long hold time, but the rep was pleasant. Fresh speed tests: Speedtest.net (University of Texas): 478/242 Speedtest.net (Sprint - San Antonio): 518/250 Fast.com (netflix): 440/250 speedtest.gvtc.com: 533/269 ps. The internet plan pages are out of date. The pages reflect a price of $100.95/month for 500/100. The cart reflects around $65 per month for the 500/250 plan, net. pss. Warning: GVTC does not appear to pro-rate. I started services with the Black Friday $100 credit promotion. A full month's worth of credits were subtracted for a few days of service. The rep didn't understand why this was an issue. read more

Very pleased with the internet service and speed for the cost. We have many devices in use all the time and have no complaints. The staff is also very responsive and helpful with troubleshooting internet outages. I've called a few of times over the last year to report outages. One time, the issue was on their end and the router was immediately swapped out and replaced with new equipment. The other two times it was an electrical issue on my end, which was identified via our phone call. The technician saved me having to pay for service calls. I highly recommend this company. read more

Being in a family of 6, wifi is very important in this household yet we are all constantly having to use cellular data because our wifi connectivity is never reliable.
