Lots of folks out here today for the free event I love coming out to this location when there's some kind of event going on sometimes they have the gun show. Sometimes they have the actual fair and then sometimes they have pop-up shops. I was particularly here for a pop-up shop event where I was able to see plenty different vendors and explore different options of what people had to offer in the city of Gwinnett County. What a way to bring the community together and give people the option to brand their selves lots of space lots of room for parking. read more

No one goes to the fair to save money. That being said if you're looking forward to the rides, get the unlimited pass. Considering how much the tickets cost you'll be saving money. LOL Though a lot of the rides have minimums and maximums and my 280lb, 6'2", 17yr old football player brother couldn't get on most the rides.. Lots of food vendors. Definitely look around and make sure they have their prices listed because you will be hustled. I was charged 10 for a corndog that others were charged 8. Didn't realize it till after the fact because I was told by another customer. Game prizes aren't worth it but it's really for the experience. You pretty much pay for your prize if you get one. We spent almost 200 for my boys to get a couple stuffed animals. Another game was a little better only spending 20 because my 7yr old is a good shot. The attendant was surprised but that made obvious the fact that the cans were glued on, or something, because they were NOT falling over. We played a water gun game and my son won a small stuffed animal. To get a bigger animal you would have to pay more and win a couple more rounds.. Practically paying for a bigger prize. Most of the attendants and vendors were very nice. There were a few that did have nasty attitudes for no reason we gave them. But overall we had a good time. Would recommend going as soon as the fair opens, 5pm, and on a weekday to avoid the crowds. Cash is also good to have since cards are "taxed". read more

An overpriced joke. You might be thinking you'll save some money getting the unlimited rides bracelet but so much of your time will be spent on lines, you'd only really come out at an advantage if you stayed the entire day at there, and even then It honestly wouldn't be worth it. Concessions mostly only take cash, customer service is poor, and things often aren't as advertised on the signs(I.E Funnel cakes claiming to come with cream cheese icing, whipped cream, etc,. only to have ONLY powdered sugar and being priced as presented) Fights break out often and the atmosphere is just mostly "jank". I wouldn't recommend this to anyone and I will never waste my time here again. read more

Yesterday, was the opening for the Gwinnett County fair! And guess what? There was no admission fee (which is why we went.) On arrival, at 6:30 or so, the parking lot was full, but there was plenty of parking available. I found a parking spot almost immediately, because having a broke back has its advantages (in other words, a disabled tag.) We got in line to purchase the tickets. We waited in line for about 15 minutes, only to be told that cards weren't accepted in that line. She told us that we had to go to the end of the other line. I didn't want to be frustrated and set a bad mood for my family. So, I went to the back of the other line. When we got to the front of the line, I could hear and see a woman, going off about being told that they don't accept cards in that line. Thats when I had the opportunity to put my expensive two cents in. I yelled out "they need to put a sign up." Ahhhh that felt good. The cost of the rides were not too bad (if you only have one child.) A stamp was $20. Tickets were $1.25 each. There were soooo many food vendors and a good assortment of rides. They had a little barn there that housed cows and sheep. They also had a kiddie land! It was a little disappointing. My son, who is 18 months, was tall enough to ride a few rides, but wasn't mature enough to ride them by himself. Parents was not allowed to ride with the children, so we skipped most of the rides for him. Luckily, my 10 year old daughter sat with him on one ride (they didn't even want her to, but allowed her.) I understand the safety concerns with the rides, so I won't and can't say anything negative. I just wish that more of the rides, allowed us parents, to accompany our kids on the kiddie rides. My daughter, on the other hand, rode every single ride. She is an adventurous one. She absolutely enjoyed herself. One of the vendors caught my sons eye. It was one of the vendors with the fake, barking, moving dog. He also had a moving alligator and car amongst other things. I asked him how much the dog was. He said $10. I asked if he took cards and he said $15. I said "the devil was a lie." I gave him the eye, and walked off. We continued walking the fair. We came across another man, who was selling only the barking dogs and light up masks. I asked him how much the dog was, and be said $5. Yoooooo, I was in my right mind to go confront the last vendor, but my fat behind was too lazy to go back. Of course, the cost of taking your family to the fair is expensive. Make sure that you bring cash, because a lot of the vendors only take cash. I wanted Elote and couldn't get it, because I had no cash. The cash that I did bring, was spent in the very beginning of our adventure there. I also want to try the hot dog, with bacon and peanut butter. Sounds strange, yet interestingly satisfying. They did have an ATM, but it was locked up. When we were about to leave, the ATM was open. I didn't take out money, because there was a $4 fee. We ended up leaving at 10:35. We had a lot of fun. We are going back next weekend. This time, we are taking all four of our kids. My bank account is not going to like that. read more

We went for the first time on Saturday Sept 15 and it was insanity! The parking lot was full so folks were parking all over the grass on the shoulder etc. There were plenty of cops/sheriffs to direct traffic so I guess things moved pretty smoothly. After parking (on a patch of grass lol) we made our way to the entrance and I was a little discouraged because the line to get in was so long....I mean wrapped around the parking lot long. Undeterred we joined the queue and made our way to the ticket agent within 15 minutes. So we finally got into the fairground and it starts pouring rain. Now everyone is disappointed because this place looks like a ton of fun. We decide to call it a night and try again the next day. The following day we head out as soon as they open. No lines this time. We got our wristbands and ride till we drop. This fair has a ton of rides especially for kids. We were there for over 4hrs and did not get to ride everything. There were many food options too. I got a Turkey leg. Must have been the best Turkey leg I have ever had. EVER! Juicy and flavorful and smokey. The adults had a blast. The kids had a blast. This was one of the best fairs I have been to. Yes there were a lot of teens, but they were having fun. And why not? You go to a fair to have fun. The Gwinnett county fair is great for families and everyone. read more

Meh. The "calibre" of carnival workers has greatly improved (I didn't see ONE toothless guy with misspelled prison tattoos), but overall the fair is nothing special. I took 2 teenagers and we dropped $40 in about 15 minutes. For that, we got admission, one spin on the ferris wheel, 1 funnel cake and a couple bottles of water. The rides are (as you would expect) old and fairly rickety looking. My favorite part (other than the people watching) was the livestock barn. Compared to the great Midwestern fairs (notably the Minnesota State Fair which is AWESOME), this is indeed nothing special. Keep your expectations low... read more

This is an ideal fair for the 12-16 year old set who want to flirt, play games, and go on rides. The tix per ride really add up and there is nothing for the 2-5 year old kids at all. They offer the typical festival fare, which is always fun, but no variety in the food or food trucks like you would see at any smaller city festival. For such a big festival that has an entry fee, I expect live music, craft displays, harvest booths with pumpkins, etc. They just keep trying to take your money witjout offering anything else for the entry fee. The people who run this need to see the KY state fair for inspiration. read more

Very dissatisfied with this last visit to the fair. We paid $70 to ride two rides in two hours time. I understand that the fair is a big attraction and this was going to be the last weekend that they were open, but I don't expect to wait 45 minutes to ride a ride. I think I am angry that not only did you have to pay to get into the fair, but that you also had to pay $25 to get a hand stamp, or buy tickets. Somewhere the cost should have been reduced since with the wait times it was impossible to ride everything that the Fair had to offer. The workers were fantastic, but it was not enough to make up for the long lines. We did sample one of the food stands. I had traditional funnel cake, and my fiancé had a vanilla cone. The funnel cake was good, but had an interesting orange flavor when I took the first bite. My fiancé's vine was bland and tasted just like cream and fat. It was not the best experience we have had at the fair, and it may be awhile before we come back since it was so expensive. read more

My memories of the GCF from childhood (1980's) were far more exciting. I've been dozens of times over the last 30 years, and while it's been a good decade since I've made my visit to the GCF, this will most definitely be my last. The fairgrounds are a barron wasteland of filth. There is no shade, no canopy, no water, no green, nothing. The only shade structure is the lifestock exhibit, and, uh, no thanks. I like goats & pigs as much as the next person, but, I don't want to hang out with them. One thing to note, watch out for all the power cords! They are scattered all over the damn place, so if you're in a wheelchair, pushing a stroller or just plain clumsy, please take my advice and just stay home. I'm going to end this review with my favorite GCF feature. They have their very own Krusty the clown. Yes, that's right, Krusty the Clown! and he can operate a PA system! I don't know what this guy was drinking Sunday morning, but he was obscene. He was in one of those water dunk tanks, and his attempt to provoke patrons into dunking him went horribly wrong. He was hurling insults to everyone walking by over the loud speaker. He called one guy an a-hole then threatened to break his neck, He called a woman a twit and made fun of her shirt, and insulted another woman by making a joke about her being overweight. I don't find humor in insulting, humiliating and threatening unsuspecting people. It just solidified my hatred of clowns. Don't get me wrong, the people watching is both excellent and nauseating, the rides are fun, the food is awful, and lets face it, who doesn't like to get their dose of trashy Americana? I think I will follow in my Mother's foot steps, and leave the carnival excursions for Dad and the kids. Should you decided to go, bring LOTS and LOTS of sunscreen. Overall, Gwinnett County Fair is just okay. I've usually have gone in the past during weeknights so it was less crowded. Going on a Saturday night will never be done again. Honestly, I had no intentions of even going but I haven't seen my niece in three months and wanted us to go so I went. It was more a night for the kids to have fun. The lines were super long for the adult side. The kids' side was much better. We didn't purchase any food because we rather go out and eat elsewhere instead. Free parking with lots of people directly traffic. I had a problem with people not helping direct traffic out of the parking lot. If you're a thrill fanatic like me, I rather go to Six Flags (but not pay the price for it). But since it's a once a year event for Gwinnett County, not bad. read more

We attended the Repticon here which was a very crowded affair. The venue was a single building which was a large single hall with booths spread into three rows. Mostly dealers of various reptiles and a few odds an end vendors as well. The general fair grounds seem somewhat aged and in need of an update but have seen so much worse in regards of facilities. read more

Let's all be honest here. A fair is a fair. We're not playing games (unless they're fair games). We know what we're getting in to. Okay next- what's good and what's not. Good- the workers. Honestly. Some of the most dependable and sweet workers ever. So strange and nice. They were kind and efficient. We went on a Tuesday and the lines were fast and the workers caring and approachable. The $20 all you can ride. Get it. Why wouldn't you? So simple and saves $$ Parking was okay Ps. The not so good: $$$$ food but what a variety. Short lines, many fair food options. The lanes/ layout. Whether you think you'll end up going this year or not, who among us doesn't feel a twinge of giddy excitement each time the fair rolls back into town? Remember when your elementary school teacher would pass out a perforated strip of half-off ride tickets at the end of the school day, and you and your friends would spend the bus ride home discussing which day (or NIGHTS!!!) you were going to ask your parents if you could go to the fair? Well, I do. Rest assured that while some aspects of the fair have certainly mellowed with time or, in some cases, fallen to the wayside, the warm and entertaining family-friendly atmosphere of the Gwinnett County Fair still abounds. Fair food? Check. Animal smells? Check. Safe well-assembled carnival rides? Half check -- but really, isn't the thrill of participating in daredevilry and tempting our sense of self-preservation one of the main reasons we go to the fair? . . . Isn't it? . . . Isn't it? Gone are the days that admission is free, but parking is. Come prepared with cash for the admission, lest you be directed to the usurious mobile ATMs (by the way, they bare a striking and off-putting resemblance to some of the chance games you'll find inside the fair) behind the cashier stand where you'll be asked to pay a $4 transaction fee. To offset the expense, make sure all the kids in your party are 11 and under. Seasoned fair goers will notice that some aspects of the fairs of yesteryear are no more. The borderline exploitative exhibits like the world's smallest woman, for instance [did she travel with the fair, or was it a different local at each fair?], no longer have a place in today's carnival politics. Instead, exploitation is limited to the livestock exhibits. During our visit we stumbled into the backstage area of the goat show, where muzzled goats were being groomed and waiting to be judged on appearance. While there was only a slight hint of goat dropping aroma in the air, we did have to be mindful of where we stepped. Carnival barkers and ride operators seem to have cleaned up their act in recent years. Maybe they've unionized? Each employee now wears a uniform golf shirt which makes it easier for carnival goers to determine who works at the fair and who's just running from the law. I discovered that wandering around with a funnel cake made me more of a target for carnival game invites. More than once, a carnie said, "Hey, Dad, one of these stuffed bears goes great with funnel cake." I can only assume the line works on customers who are less spendthrifts than I. Rumor has it the fair is a different place by night than it is by day. We were door busters and got there right when it opened, which is what I'd recommend if you want to avoid the sketchier element. Even in the early afternoon we found a few young men dressed in coveralls who appeared as though they were looking for trouble. That said, their dialect and word choice led me to believe they were possibly from neighboring Walton County and not genuine Gwinnettians. All in all, the fair is still a great place to spend loads of money on yourself and the kiddos. Pack sunscreen or a parasol. It's hot and virtually shadeless. Before you leave, don't forget to buy or win a souvenir. Otherwise, your kid will be the only one in class the next day who doesn't own an inflatable penguin or stuffed poop emoji. read more

$5 an adult to get in, although kids under six are free, and so is parking. After that, $3-6 a ride for many of the rides (of course that tidbit isn't listed on the website), or $18-$25 for an unlimited-ride handstamp are your only options. Check the website and drink coke for the deals. This makes the rides, especially on the weekends, almost a non-starter for those with toddlers or small children, who can only handle the fair for a few hours. For everyone else, it makes a little more sense. Food prices are all over the map. Many of the foodstands didn't have prices listed, deliberately. There's $7 chicken-on-a-stick from the carnies, for example. A valuable lesson emerges: stick to the locals, like the church running their cookout, and to the free-or-cheap attractions like the livestock competitions, exhibit hall, or 4H petting zoo. I love the fair. It has plenty of rides and plenty of little kid rodes. However the tickets are a waste of money just go for the free rides pass. If your going with parents or little kids I would highly suggest you get there when it opens as there are pretty much no lines and also no teenagers. The food is very good just don't expect to go in there and find the best deal in the world on funnel cake. read more

I was saddened to find out that I used to see more agriculture displays, 4H, FFA exhibits and animals at fairs in Suburban Washington DC instead of the middle of Georgia. Basically, I ended up paying $5.00 to get in to a carnival. The only animals I saw were a few pigs....saw more pigs walking the midway eating fried Twinkies than I did in the animal ring. The food was overpriced. $6.00 for a pork BBQ sandwich. Once I saw them taking the pork out of a microwave, I left and decided to eat elsewhere. Once is enough, no need to ever go back, there are plenty of free carnivals you can go to. read more

a yearly tradition. My husband loves to fill up on all the fattening carnival foods available- hey it is only here once a year! The rides are decent, at least I feel fairly safe on them. I went with my wife on a Saturday night and 90% of the teenagers were there to cause trouble and get in fights. It was very uncomfortable. Won't be going at night again. My kids love the fair because of all the kiddie rides, you can get a foot-long corn dog and other fried eats. JFYI - Walgreen's promotes that you save $2 on general admission (printed right on the voucher) but they lie; just minutes ago I paid $5 at Walgreen's and then pulled up the GCF webpage expecting general admission tickets @ $7 only to find general admission is $5 at the gate too. There may be some convenience if I don't have to wait in the gate ticket purchase line, but Walgreen's should really fix their error. For clarity: General admission at the gate is $5 (kids 6 & under are free) Seniors are $2 9/17/15 admission is free & $18 unlimited rides if you bring a nonperishable food item. read more

It gets a low rating because the day we went was a monsoon. The game people kept heckling us. The polish I got wasn't too good. Me and my husband just stayed for a half hour. The elephant ear I got WAS very tasty though. I was mad I couldn't get a henna tatt....but the guy under that tent was just wearing socks sitting in a puddle. Ugh.
