Gym East Issaquah has zero management, terrible front desk who doesn't know how to answer questions about anything, and staffing issues (coach no-shows). There are a couple good coaches who are actually enthusiastic with the kids, the others I've seen look like they don't want to be there. I don't recommend this place to others. read more

This is their smaller location in the GymEast franchise and the parking is a little better compared to the Bellevue location. The gym itself feels very small compared to the other location -- almost like a toddler gym. I do appreciate the ability to go between locations especially for makeup sessions though. read more

My child learned nothing there, and the coaches were very unprofessional. Once you decide to leave, their attitude changes completely, and they become uncooperative, even pressuring you to continue paying. Unfortunately, I trusted them, but after taking my money, they refused to let my child attend class, and he was left crying. They initially apologized and promised a refund, but then the owner texted me rudely, claiming it was a misunderstanding and that they wouldn't refund me, though I could come back later. Daughter just started gymnastic class here. Prior to this gym, we have only been taking lessons at a neighborhood community center, so the set up is not simple and all temporary. Gym East's spaciousness floor , lots of floor pads and swing bars, instructor to student ratio and good class schedule attracted us to sign up. After few classes, my daughter overall like the lessons, TA and the class. I however think the instructor can be more kids friendly, specially the gym is marketed for kids. The gym is definitely dated. During registration, their customer service was not very friendly either. I'll be bk to give another review at the end of the season. They are strict about the outfit, if not wearing a leotard, shirts must be tuck inside the biker shirt. All hair should be tied back. I think this is very reasonable. read more

We have been going here for a little over a year. my daughter loves it. There is definitely good and not so good coaches so until you know more about them signing up can be difficult. Overall, we have been happy with majority of our coaches. They are fun but tough on the girls. I would like to give no star to Issaquah gym. First coach we met in Washington state was in this gym, and we were so disappointed!! If your kids belong to a competition team, I do not think this gym is great. My daughter was admitted into one of best gyms  in California (which makes many national and state level competition winners.) The coach I met( team level 2 and 3) requested the evaluation fee like $45 per half hour or $35 per class for three times ($35*3) just for the evaluation. I remember she mainly talks about $. No Californian gym has a coach like her. When we visited there, we were surprised at the ways this coach is teaching children and overall students' performance. Class looks very unorganized and inefficient. Teachers do not seem respectful to students. As staff's teaching is not great, students' performances seem not that great. One nice staff(Katy) allowed us to get an evaluation this morning. We got an appointment from her. Katy said that evaluation is free actually. We visited there, but this coach changed her words(changing time) and asked again $$$. If her teaching level is great, we will be willing to pay more. With such a low level teaching skills, I do not think that a penny and any time is worthy! We are moving to Washington from California. This gym shocked us and made us reconsider on not moving to Washington state. If you have a competitive gymnast, please choose a good gym. Our current gym in California has very nice staffs including Olympic silver medalist and other nationally competed teachers, and they are very respectful to children and teach children gymnastics with very enjoyable ways! read more

I have two children that have taken gymnastics at both the Issaqah and Bellevue location. Both children were taking two classes each per week. We had priority registration and were told to sign our son up for level two boy's come Fall. After a frustrating registration process, poor record keeping from the office and experiencing the worst customer service in my adult life we were left without a class for my son. I will make sure to share our experience with others. Our family cannot wait for the new gymnastics club to open in Issaquah next year-- late 2018. The program sounds promising. Very uppsetting. went to watch my niece at her team workout at Issaquah team gym. Coach was leading group in what she calls lines. (I am a Coach in Region 5, so I do know what I am talking about). These 'lines' were a disaster. Coach was constantly yelling at kids, clapping her hands, and saying things like "Suzy, join the class." (Public shaming at its worst and a clear violation of Safe Sport practice) The kids clearly had no idea how to do, for example, a chasse into a leap properly. And Coach just kept going, kept yelling, kept counting, clapping, and yelling. Another Coach (who clearly did know how to do this properly) tried to stop the lines and explain to the group, how to properly do this skill. And do you know what Coach 1 did? Literally spoke over her while Coach 2 was demonstrating and speaking. Coach 1 just started counting out the next drill. While the other coach was talking! Gotta wonder about any Coach who shows this much disrespect for another employee, when parents are there, and how they coach when parents are not there! Next week girls have their first meet, my niece had asked me if she was allowed to wear shorts while competing. I explained Yes, USAG now allows it. During the coaches 'pep talk' my niece asked her about the shorts. She said very rudely to my niece, in front of the whole team, "No. You cannot wear shorts. Listen to what I just said" (again, public shaming violation). Clearly she has no current USAG training and doesnt know that this is now allowed. These girls dont have their competition warm ups yet (ok, not the gyms fault) but the girls are told they cant come in anything but a leotard. She told them they cant bring shorts, or compete in them, and cannot bring leggings, etc. Leotard only. Someone needs to take a current USAG course! Back to the version of 'lines.' NIGHTMARE! Girls are doing outdated body positions that USAG has now changed with this new cycle of routines. They are not even being taught how to land a leap properly. They just bop and fall and she yells and they have to keep going. Zero attention to details. Horrible muscle memory is being created and it is just sloppy. Drills are extremly outdated. The vault coach, from what my niece told me, is mean and unapproachable. When a teammate said she had a sore wrist, the coach didn't modify her assingment, but rather told her if she couldn't do what everyone else was doing, go sit down until she could. Another Safe Sport violation. Any Coach who kicks a kid out of workout because they are hurt, should not be a coach. All the girls are scared of her (from what my niece said). Fear in a gym should never be allowed. My niece really likes the beam coach and the younger bar coach. From what I saw, these two events teach modern shapes, and coaches took the time to not just explain the what, but the why. They are patient, and my niece said they have weekly challenges, skill reward charts, get to work upgrades, and change their stations weekly. I know this is a long review, but really do take your time if you choose to look here. My niece will be leaving at the end of the season. She is going to a gym where more than two coaches know what they are doing and where the head Coach treats the gymnasts, and other employees, with respect. read more

We have been customers of Gymnastics East a few years in the past. We registered for one of their 2021 summer camps and after having done so, needed to change plans and asked to be refunded money. We were aware of the $50 non-refundable deposit but then on TOP of that, they then inform you that you have to pay another $25 to have them SHIP YOU A CHECK otherwise you're stuck with an account credit you're not going to use. Think again if you think you're a valued customer here; you're nothing but a bank machine that they're doing everything they can to withdraw funds and keep them; whether you'll use them or not. Recommend you do business elsewhere and keep your money in your own wallet. read more

My daughter (age 5) spent a year at Gymnastics East. In that time, we had a few different coaches, none of which I would recommend. My daughter regularly cried when they yelled at her and told her she wasn't doing things right, and she's not normally one to be overly sensitive. I also felt the coaches we had were disrespectful to the kids... they didn't talk to them in a nice way, they never said please or thank you, they just barked orders and would actually tell the kids they weren't showing them enough respect. All while I'm watching thinking, if you want to be respected, you need to be respectful. I found the front desk person to be quite unapproachable. It was time for my daughter to do the test for moving up, so I called and scheduled it. When we showed up for her test, they didn't have her on the calendar, and couldn't accommodate her before registration opened for the next session. Instead of apologizing for the situation, the lady accused me of having it wrong. Ugh. I told the lady that if she couldn't be tested, then I couldn't register for the next session, and she agreed - there are no exceptions made, even if her teacher was able to vouch for her level until there was an available time slot for testing. So we weren't able to continue into the next session. I ended up pulling her out of the session she was in early, in the middle of a class, actually, when the teacher was just plain mean and yelling at the kids. I could not even handle watching it, so I just took her out and we left, never to return (even though I'd paid for the rest of the session). A few others commented on the shows... and I agree, very disorganized, and scary for little girls because their coaches aren't there - they show up and have to meet up as a class with a teenager they have NEVER seen before and do a dance they've barely learned. It was cute, but then they actually CHARGE the parents to come watch your child for a 3 minute performance! The seating area is a mess and it's really hard to get in and out, but you're supposed to leave after your kid performs to make room for other parents who have paid for a seat, to get a seat. I know there are few places in Issaquah to practice gymnastics, and I've heard good things about some of the coaches, so we may have just had bad luck, but I seriously question everything about the place based on the experiences we had :( read more

My daughter competed with gymnastic east for many years. We had an excellent experience. We also moved from California and found those couches to be too intense and pushed the kids way to far. After starting at gymnastics east I could see my daughter staying to have fun and loving the sport she always had. She gained a lot of self confidence over the years as attended. Our goal was for her to have fun, be part of something bigger than her, it was never to go to the Olympics or college level. My daughter loves this place we go once a week for an hour and she has really improved. She can do a bridge kick over which she is very proud of. She is in 1st grade and has all the energy in the world. It is very affordable which is a huge plus for me and they are very flexible when needing to change schedules. My 3 y.o. takes classes there. She has learned a ton and is very strong and coordinated due to the classes. I don't worry about her at parks, etc. The teachers are really patient and helpful. We hosted my son's birthday party here yesterday and the kids had a blast! We had more kids showed up last minute (probably because it was a rainy day) than expected but everything turned out fine. A couple days before the party I tried to get another coach because I fear that this would happen. But no luck with that. Then I thought most kids were probably on spring break vacation so oh well! Anyway, even though it was "crazy" fun, I suggest you plan ahead for an extra coach so you don't have to stress out like I did! At one point I had to tell the parents to bring their kiddo out to have some food first etc. The head coach, Cynthia, were concerned but she did their part well. Her assistant was helpful too as well. The party/eating area was a bit small but we made it work. I had parents interested in having their kids taking gymnastics after this party. I feel like this is just glorified babysitting, my child is now in the 3/4 class and there's no real coaching or correcting on form etc (I know they're young) it's basically a play group. The coach is nice but she kinda only pays attention to the older more advanced kids. The class size seems too big for her to handle which takes away from teaching them when she's running around trying to get kids to listen. Facility is clean and my child is enjoying the class so that's what counts and that's why i left so many stars read more

I truly love Gym East! With 3 girls we have been to a lot of gymnastics studios and this is the best in my opinion! They treat every gymnast with respect and have wonderful customer service. Quick to respond to questions and requests. The rec classes are great and the kids learn a lot and get a lot of exercise! There are limited gymnastics options in the area, so we ended up at Gymnastics East for that reason. Some of the coaches are great with little kids, others, are simply not suited for working with little kids. They are pretty flexible with schedules and you can move your kid around to different classes without much hassle if you need to. My gymnastics loving kid was starting to dislike going to class, so we switched coaches and she's happy to be there once again. They charge for the classes every couple of months, which is a bit annoying (we are paying for 2 kids). Monthly payments would be a better, less budget impacting way to do things. Communication from the gym comes in the form of paper (that gets immediately lost in our car). It would be real nice if they switched to an email system for any 'important' messages. Also, they provide 'certificates' to the kids for accomplishing skills, but past that, there's no feedback coming back to the parents. I *think* my kids are pretty good in class, but are they? Are there things they should work on at home? I have no idea... These are the kind of things I wonder. We have been to both the Winter show and the spring show....and both are a bit chaotic to attend (as spectators and performers). If there was another gymnastics option in the area, I would check it out. We tried Little Gym in the past, but my kids didn't like all the singing and games, they just wanted to get on the bars and balance beam to do the 'real' stuff. Our experience thus far with Gymnastics East has been lack luster. It's not terrible, but it's not anything to write home about either. read more

I really love this gym. My daughter, that is almost five takes gymnastics here once a week and she loves it. The coaches are really sweet, and seriously have the patience of a saint. It is really fun to watch the kids get out their energy, and do something active. The lady that runs the front desk is really reaaaallly nice as well. The only thing I would recommend, is that they work a little bit on making the performances a bit more organized, and not charge parents a fee to watch their child. My daughter was at the 6:30 little bouncers class today (this was her 3rd class of the school year). She wore a 2-piece Ivivva (Lululemon kids brand) gymnastics outfit. When I picked her up from class she was wearing a t-shirt on top of her outfit, and when I asked her why, she told me that her teacher told her in front of the whole class that she is not allowed to show her stomach. She said she felt embarrassed because she didn't know and it was unnecessary to tell her in front of everybody. I went up to the front desk to return the t-shirt and ask them why she was put in a t-shirt. The woman I spoke with told me that they are not allowed to show their midsection. By the way, I think it's HIGHLY hypocritical as all the other girls wear leotards with butt cheeks exposed. Personally, I would rather show stomach than butt cheeks but to each their own . So, I told the woman that I was unaware they have a dress code as it was never shown to me, it's not posted anywhere in their facility, or on their website for that matter. She told me "it's probably in one of our waivers". Fine, it's totally okay for them to have a dress code but it's their responsibility to inform parents and they failed to do that. Otherwise, as far as I'm concerned a gym outfit is a gym outfit. I have a problem with: - One: the way it was handled. Do NOT take it up with my daughter and embarrass her in front of the whole class. Take it up with me! The parent. - Two: When I gave the t-shirt back to the woman I spoke with, she told me to keep it. I told her that I didn't want to keep it. She said "in that case, take it with you and bring it back next week washed". Then, she walked away and I heard her say "Well, that was awkward!". Yes, I heard you and that was as unprofessional as the way you handled the situation with my child. - Three: the lack of communication. If you have a dress code that you enforce with such lack of class and empathy, then, it's YOUR responsibility to make sure everyone is aware. My child does NOT want to return to this sorry excuse of a gym as you embarrassed her in front of her classmates, therefore, I'm canceling her membership first thing in the morning. I should have checked your lousy Google and Yelp reviews before I ever signed her up. read more

My daughter loves gymnastics and it is unfortunate that there are limited options for gymnastics classes in the Bellevue area. The red tape that you are required to go through at Gymeast to keep advancing to the next level is beyond absurd. They have limited testing times (only certain staff can do it in the middle of the school day??) And long wait lists once they have passed to next level. Therefore forcing your child to stay in a class that is not challenging them and a waste of time and money. The teaching staff varies in both skill and enthusiasm; same for office staff. We moved from the woodinville area and miss having options and healthy business competition where you are appreciated and valued. Sadly it seems GymEast takes advantage of the lack of competing gyms in the area. read more

PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO GYMNASTICS EAST. NOT RECOMMEND!!! At Gymnastics East you will end up spending money what will go in a black hole with no development of your child. My child has been going there since kindergarten and now in middle school. I have not seen any development in my child's skills. I understand it depends a lot from person-to-person but involvement of management and coaches are equally important. At first I thought, that my child is too young, it is difficult to put much effort and as time passes things will be better. As the years passed by I find my child is not gaining enough expertise. I started spending more time watching them practice and notice instructor is too busy with too many kids in the group. I thought few extra sessions would help; hence, I increased the session to multiple days. That was the worst decision I made, nothing changed except I ended up spending more money. My child started working with multiple coaches and has the same problem. My child got more confused now, has the same problem since non of the coaches focus on the right form or making them put the right effort, and also got different instructions. It became a paid fun place. I don't even know whom to talk or even if they will listen. Front desk is waste and don't even know who owns this place. It is a business of playing with your child's future. There is no passion to help each child succeed. There could be argument about some are still winning trophies etc. but that is only few others are just waste and there is no one to help. This is the ONLY sports that my child is involved in, and I had been thinking my child will do good if not the better, not even thinking of going to competitive level, but at this time my child can't even do a simple cart wheel in the right way after spending crucial years of life that my child will NEVER get back. You can blame that my child is not capable of doing proper gymnastics and that is where I would seek help from coach to either tell that to me early or find me a solution. YES, I am taking my child to a different place. Gymnastics East does not care as they have monopoly in Issaquah and huge waiting list to play with some other child's future.
