we LOVE this place. very retro & old school down to the tin cash box. incredible pricing options, plenty of gym space & activities for all levels! we particularly adore the 'open gym' option as it gives kids a chance to explore freely & focus more on simply having fun 7 not olympic training, which is also offered at metropolitan gymnastics. the coaching staff seem knowledgeable & professional- easily spotted & never not paying attention. overall, i highly recommend MG. hope this isn't petty but the only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars & not 5 is that the ventilation needs updated or the props disinfected more often or something because the stench is overwhelming. i have to fight the urge to bring my own lysol haha. also the vending machines never work so that's always a hassle. trivial but still. My daughter recently began taking beginner classes at this facility and she has been having an absolute blast. The coaches have been so supportive and she has already learned so much in so little time. On top of all this, I was nervous starting her here during the pandemic, but the gym has incredible COVID safety regulations in place that make it feel safe during these strange times. Let me start with the good. My kids LOVE their instructors. Both are very patient and easy to deal with. If it wasn't for them, I would have pulled my kids out of this gym long ago. Okay...so the lady at the front desk is not the easiest to deal with. Everything seems to be an issue when dealing with her (whether it legitimately is or not). That gets pretty tiring. Her people skills could use some work. Is it normal for a gymnastics spot to be so for-profit? Why are family members charged for entry to events? I do not understand that at all. They often have a slide show running on their TV. The slide that irks me the most is "so and so gym owners donated a piece of equipment, so thank them". It's not like they give classes for free, so why in the heck should I thank the gym owners? We PAY to attend. Again, this is a for-profit business that charges its customers, so stop acting like you are a benevolent charity organization. read more

They called me right away with spots that had opened. This is a REAL gymnastics gym for Those wanting to get good. The coaches correct all of the kids in the group, make them do drills even in my daughter class (almost 4), the place we were at before felt like a play date more than anything and the coach would only correct the child they saw potential in. I liked my kids coaches etc. One thing that i felt was overwhelming was open gym art and only because my daughter who's almost 4 was running around under the uneven bars etc when kids were flipping, not the gyms fault it's mine for having a crazy toddler on the lose lol anyway awesome place for my kids to grow up with gymnastics also the boys program that my almost 7 year old is in is impressive read more

Gymnastics Meets R Them. Usually very tightly run with decent raffle baskets (you'd be surprised how important a decent raffle basket is!). Oh, and a giant human sized habitrail for board out of their little gourds brothers and sisters forced to attend yet another meet. So far, none of the children has actually turned into a giant gerbil, but I've heard stories of the little kiddos braining each other. When I'm competing level 4 in the 16-years and up age category, I know I'll take first place at the Bunny Hop and celebrate with an arm's length of tickets and a giant tube of sandy candy. My son is 10. We have been with the gym for 1 and a 1/2 years. We started off slow but my son wanted more and turns out he's good. The coaches at metropolitan have brought my son from knowing nothing, to surprising us every meet. These coaches are amazing. He feels so lucky to be a part of PJ's level 5 team. Metro is one of the best places I have trained at and I have had more great times here than I can count. The adult classes are amazing and this handsome devils, PJ and Peter are two of the most amazing coaches and guys I know. They know their stuff and helped me to train and learn any trick or technique I could ever want to learn. If I was having trouble with a trick they would talk to people, research, or come up with any way they could to help me get it. Their passion for the sport and to help people is second to none. Great place for mid-level plus gymnastics based on my experience with my two beginner girls. They do well pushing the kids with natural talent and drive to compete. My girls have been going here for almost a year and they do it mostly for fun and don't have interest in competing. They are getting bored due to lack of motivational support from the teachers to help push them to get to the next level. I'm pulling my girls out for a few months to hopefully renew their interest while they do fall sports and then we'll most likely be back to this gym. I do think it's good instruction and they've been improving their facility and adding fun meets to the mix for the students. read more

My home away from home. I can't speak for the kids classes (although I train with a Coach that is involved in the children's program) but, I love the adult classes. I workout with both adult instructors (Jeff and PJ) and am very happy with them. They both push me very hard but, are careful not to cause any injury. It's a great workout and well worth the drive I do from Bellevue. Both classes are great for long time gymnasts or beginners and the other students are very friendly to newcomers. read more

I have to say, I was hesitant to bring our daughter here who has anxiety issues. This gym has a reputation for making great but hardcore gymnasts . We were worried coming here wouldn't be good for her. In the end it's VERY convenient for us. We decided to stick with just recreational gym at first but it only took a few months til we wanted to jump in with both feet. EVERY single coach and staff member is absolutely amazing, well trained and they know gymnastics. The transition has been wonderful. They keep you well informed with emails. Extra Costs are laid out up front and in convenient payment plans. Our daughter has had hard days but they keep her going and praise her when she pulls through. They work her very hard which is good for her but also necessary to be the best gymnast. We couldn't be happier with this choice. Metro is THE only choice for gymnastics in all King county. You won't regret it for your hard core USAG gymnast male or female or your recreational gymnast. read more

My children have never done gymnastic classes there. But we have hosted several birthday parties and gone to open gym many times! For birthday parties it's a great deal ($175 I think) for 15 kids. You get the whole gym! I always ask that they don't play games with the kids. The kids only want to run around like crazy and do whatever they want! Open gym is great on rainy days! Sometimes it can get crowded. Definitely give it a try! read more

We attended a birthday party at Metropolitan Gymnastics in Kent, on 5/6/18. The entire gym was filthy. I took photos of the layers of thick dust on the large crawl through/ climb on play structure. Dust so thick it covers the equipment like a white blanket. Filthy floors, dirty dusty everything, including bathrooms. I addition, I spoke to the young girl who was supervising the party. She was allowing the boys to jump and do flips into the foam pit from a jumping device, one after another while 3 or 4 were in the pit, without regard for their safety! She complained, "They won't listen to me." I told her SHE was in charge, and SHE needed to call a time out, ask the boys to vacate the pit, then allow them to continue one at a time. For her to just lean back talking, without regard to the children's safety, is just plain reckless. This place should be closed for cleaning and retraining! read more

I have my two boys 6 and 8 in one class and my 10 year old daughter in another. If your kids are not enrolled for the competition classes then it is pretty much a daycare. Other reviewers on other sites had said the same. My kids did get better motor skills but that's about it. I have had them in for about a year and I am seriously considering taking them out as soon as I can find some place else. The class my two boys were in were o.k. because of the instructor but the instructor is teaching a competition class now and my boys got another instructor as a replacement. The problem is that the new instructor is trying to teach other classes at the same time and my boys are not getting the full attention. My daughters class on the other hand is a nightmare. At the beginning there was a problem of not enough students enrolling in her time slot. The gym was ending her class like 15 to 20 minutes early. I asked why isn't she being taught the full hour. They said because there isn't enough students in the class and that she is getting the correct amount of time spent on her as if there were more students in the class it would come out the same. What the $@$#!? Well that was the start of the nightmare. She is going on her 5th new instructor, maybe more, lost count. Well anyways her first couple of instructors would tell her what to do but they weren't really correcting her or paying attention. They would just say do this and they would just look around or talk to friends. Another replacement would only have them do cart wheels and spent half of the class time stretching or making them do push ups because they would ask a simple question like can they learn something new and they would be punished. The other replacements had their quirks too, but you get the general idea. On top of all this the gym has no curriculum to follow so that they know where the students in the class should be or learning. Each time a replacement comes in they would have free reign. So the students are learning something half ass or going over something they already know like cartwheels. I basically paid a lot of money for my daughter to do cartwheels. I have complained a couple of times about this and they are like uhhh. I've had it. Oh yeah, right before I yanked my kids out, they had a fill in instructor again for my daughter and were trying to find another replacement again. What the @$%&@?. REALLY? So my daughter could learn cart wheels again? I might as well of enrolled her into little gym. Though she might look awkard towering over kids half her age. read more

My family and I have been blessed with the opportunity to attend Metropolitan through my daughter Geneva Thompson. We were looking for another gym, and were a bit confused to committing to yet another gym financially, mentally, and socially. My daughter had the drive and potential and the coaches picked up on it right away. During the 1st free trial week, I was convinced that Metropolitan was the gym for us because of a skill that Geneva was having difficulty with. She had achieved this skill by the end of the week! The professionalism and dedication only proved that the choice to attend Metropolitan was well founded. Injury is inevitable in any sport; we've had our share, but because of the coaches and the time they took with her through all of the lows kept Geneva inspired and focused. They truly exhibit how compassionate they are for this sport by sticking by her side through both the good and the bad times. Because of this, she has been able to improve and focus on her passion for gymnastics. At Metropolitan Coach Yulia and her staff of coaches, is well respected among college coaches. If the right people don't see you, how can you be acknowledged? In my family's' personal experience, we had multiple offers for Geneva to attend several different colleges. She has chosen the University of Washington and we feel the reason she received many offers, was because of the coaches, and their ability to teach the kids not only the fundamentals, but all the skills necessary to succeed in not just gymnastics but in life as well. Because she is a Metropolitan graduate, she has a FREE lifetime membership to the gym, which is offered to all graduates! I recommend this gym to any and every parent who has a child who is thinking about gymnastics, or has a passion for gymnastics and wants to see their child succeed and have a clear path for their future. My daughter loves it here she always tumbles at home but was nervous to go to a gymnastics class. She cried in the car when I brought her here but after I convinced her to go in she wanted me to sign her up she had so much fun! Her favorite is Ms. Amy she made her feel so comfortable!!! All of the coaches listen and teach at a comfortable level. Only downfall is how crowded it is in there, especially the sitting area. But overall great place! read more

While the instructors here are typically pretty good, the support staff and management is terrible! There is little to no communication with parents regarding things like meets, uniform orders, gym closure dates, etc. Updates and communications via their website or by email would be terrific but their standard method of (inconsistent) communication is via a tiny slip of paper handed to your child. The worst part, however, is billing. They are disorganized and penalized my 6 year old child, forcing her to sit out of class, because my payment was a few days late. They nickel and dime you with annual fees and family membership dues and their class fees are overpriced, particularly for the poor level of customer service they provide. Lastly, be prepared for the high pressure sales pitch to convince you that your young child's talent warrants them spending 10+ hours/week in their gym (translation: big bucks for parents.) I'd recommend elsewhere. read more

I had my daughter go to this Gym for the past 3 years. The level 2 coach is not up to my standards, so are the new coaches Donney and many new ones that keep coming and going. Ok. This gym has a big problem with keeping coaches in place for lower levels, that means that coaches come and go and the children don't get much gymnastics out of this--they are not really being given the chance to go forward to higher levels, one because of the lack of organization, two because of lack of good coaching skills from low-level-coaching, and thirdly, because of lack of safety in most levels. This gym worried me from the very beginning: when my student had two main injuries within a year-span: a sprain ankle --that happened right under the level 2 coach's nose, and 2nd injury, in the same class the same level, the same coach, also under her nose, a back injury. After my child has been going through extensive physical therapy for her ankle sprain a year ago, and this year for her neck pain,she was not accepted back into the same level simply because the coach could not tolerate the mother--in other words she could not tolerate the fact that I told her to her face that it is because of her lack of supervision that my child had the injuries in her class! Some people hate the Truth, they are really in denial and refuse to coach your children again if you tell them how disappointed you are in them and their coaching. So my daughter was given to another coach since Miss Leslie was denying the truth. Mothers, beware: they may punish your children if you happen to stand up for their safety, catch the lack of safety supervision when it happens, and address it on TIME. You're going to be hated for it if you go to this gym. The more honest you will be, the more they will hate your guts for it. The more you catch them with bad ethics, bad coaching skills, or no coaching at all, the more they will punish you for this. They have this new coach-- first name Donney, or some name like that---who, after failing to coach European Standards Gymnastics in Ukraine leaked his way back into the US and now acts like a king: beware ladies, he and only he is right!!!--Nobody else. God forbid you tell him he has been late to all coaching sessions or he'll give you an answer "It's ok. I'm always late. I'm allowed. It's the end of the month...I'm always late at the end of the month"...only this particular coach referred to July 15th as being "the end of the month". I don't know about you, but my calendar shows another two more weeks until the actual end of the month for July. This coach will do anything to dominate and take over, he does not allow a mother, or any mother to tell him the truth to his face. I had great concerns about my daughter's safety and he started arguing with me and raising his voice over me, and getting all angry because a mother--a woman--exposed some of his dirty schemes.....! When I told him that we--the parents--pay his salary, he told me " If your standards are so high, why don't you come in and coach"...! Gladly, but not alongside with a coward, and hypocrite like him. They are very cheeky and this gym has some major issues, not to mention lack of real gymnastics coaching skills in most lower-levels. read more
