A little bit of everything. That's how I'd describe this gym. There are group classes, cold plunge, infrared sauna, ample workout equipment and machines.... The list goes on. They even have a Brazilian jujitsu studio next to the main workout area. I really like how open this space is. It's clean and both self contained and spacious at the same time. They also have this really cool indoor-outdoor concept where some of the group classes are held in the back patio. Megan did a great job offering corrections during yoga sculpt without being invasive or aggressive. For my disabled friends, the women's bathroom has an accessible shower with a built-in seat and railing. I imagine the men's bathroom has one too. read more

Been meaning to write this review since I signed up at the end of May. This gym strikes the perfect balance of intentional, multi-disciplined athletic performance and a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere. The problem in LA when you're looking for a gym is: 1. The gyms in your vicinity are corporate owned and the clients range from disrespectful to arrogant, or all of the above. 2. The gyms have quality control issues, unhygienic, and unmaintained equipment and/or facilities 3. Charge exorbitant rates for basic elements every gym should have (high price = absolute bellend customers who wish they could be at the Bezos wedding). This gym takes care of all three of those and then some. Having met and chatted with Dakota, Eric, Grace, and Brett (some of the gym's amazing staff), if the facilities don't convince you this is the most well balanced, INDEPENDENTLY OWNED gym in LA, these guys certainly will. It pains me to leave a negative review about Gym Tonic but unfortunately the negative things about the gym are so consistent and outweigh all of the amazing things I can say about it. I will start with the positives, because it would be unfair to skip them. There have been many wonderful past and present employees that have made the space feel so much more welcoming than a standard gym. People get to know your name, your schedule, and pay attention. But far and above anyone else, the star staff member is Grace. She is kind, warm, and welcoming at every interaction I've witnessed. Her energy and empathy for the members is limitless and she makes sure everyone is welcome, comfortable, and happy. This is by far the cleanest and most beautiful gym I have ever seen. The matinence and cleaning staff keep the gym in impeccable condition. I joined Gym Tonic very shortly after they opened in 2023 and was very happy until around June. Gym Tonic really focuses on being an open air facility and there are big glass garage doors in the front and back that are left open. This is fine for most of the year but as the summer heat starts to creep up, it becomes increasingly miserable. I started mentioning the heat to multiple staff members and managers. Over the years, I was told various things like, You're hot? I feel pretty good in here, the AC is broken and will be fixed soon, some members like the doors open, the thermostat is broken and it's not actually 84 degrees in here. I could go on but I think the point is made that Gym Tonic seems to have made the choice to blatantly ignore reality and continue to pretend like this is Gold's Venice with an ocean breeze. This is Culver City in the summer, leave the doors closed and use one of the two side doors to let people access the open area if they truly wish to go get heat stroke. And to further my point that they actually know it's miserable and actively choose to ignore it, there are staff members constantly in the properly air conditioned locker room seeking respite from the heat. Along with the open doors in summer comes a swarm of members who do not pay the roughly $200 monthly fee. Mosquitos! In the summer, using the back area pretty much guarantees that in addition to a pump, you will leave the gym with mosquito bites. The staff also knows about this issue because they've scheduled bug spraying that in my opinion, doesn't help. But you know what would help? Leaving the doors closed in summer. There is a personal trainer that has approached me and a few other women that I've been witness to in a predatory way. His tactic to recruit clients seems to be to approach women and make comments that their form is incorrect and dangerous and they need training. My form and those that I've witnessed was never dangerous. Preying on someone's potential insecurities in the hopes that they'd hire a "big strong man" to help them is tasteless. I'd be inclined to believe he genuinely cared about safety if I even once witnessed him approaching a man doing something actually dangerous. The man that's about to throw his back out trying to do bicep curls beyond his current ability, the individual attempting to squat while balancing on a foam roller, the person who looks like a wacky waving inflatable tube with a kettle bell, these people are at actual risk and need help with their form to avoid serious injury. If Gym Tonic would take the air conditioning situation seriously, I would slather on some after bite cream, never make eye contact with that particular trainer again, and be a happy member. Unfortunately it's now been three summers of absolute misery that I'll no longer subject myself to. Gym Tonic markets itself as a wellness facility but I personally do not find heat stroke to be beneficial for my health. read more

I've tried it all Class Pass, Orange Theory, Core Power Yoga, and through all that, I never really considered joining a gym. Mostly because I've always found it to be incredibly intimidating. GymTonic has completely changed my outlook - everyone here is so incredibly friendly and welcoming. They are also there to help if you are like me and don't know anything about workout equipment with the exception of running on a treadmill. It's also so clean... like impressively clean. The classes are also all included in the membership and are on par with any other speciality gym, if not better. You also get a complimentary personal training session with your membership. I was paired with Aaron Guy who is the absolute BEST. He's not only a great teacher but such a genuinely nice person. If you're considering joining it's worth it and this is coming from someone who tolerates going to the gym. read more

I really love this gym. I never have to wait for a machine when I'm there at 10. I can't speak to what it's like early morning or evenings. It's very clean! There is always staff cleaning throughout the day. I love Maddie's Pilates/barre class too. This gym is exactly what I was looking for. A place I can pop into after a run or tennis match and get some quick strength training in. The staff is nice and helpful too. Would be great if the prices were lower -- it's pretty close to equinox pricing. Some of the equipment, especially in the outdoor spaces, is pretty beat up. There is very minimal cardio equipment, and they don't have screens. The best part about the space is definitely that it's not very full and it's big, plus free parking. It's a tricky parking lot to get to though as there is SO much traffic at that intersection, especially before and after work. Also personally prefer more AC for a gym but it is nice that it's open air! read more

I wanted to join this gym since before it opened! I told myself this year that if I worked out at my cheap gym for a year, I would join gymtonic as a reward. I'm glad I didn't wait the whole year! It's a really beautiful gym. If this gym works for your budget (~$200/month) and fitness goals, you won't regret joining! The premium price is reflected in the quality of experience-- from the equipment to the level of cleanliness to the appropriate level of crowdedness. You don't have to wait to use equipment, it's not over-subscribed. My favorite perks are: * Towel service is included. * The showers are nicer than my home shower. * The infrared sauna is a huge bonus-- I was able to cancel my classpass because I was using that for classes and infrared sauna use. * You basically only need to bring yourself -- for my inexpensive gym, I had to get all kinds of little gym accessories (barbell collars, warmup bands, etc.) and carry them around myself. GymTonic has all the little extras already and more. Everything is immaculately clean. Everyone seems to respect the space and re-rack the weights etc. I haven't yet taken any classes but they are at convenient times and there's a good enough variety for me. I noticed that a lot of the reviews mention people by name. The team has a really friendly vibe. Leaving a review based on my one day free pass. I live in the apartment directly behind it so figured I would come see what Gym Tonic was. The gym itself is amazing. Great atmosphere with tall ceilings and natural light, it was spotless and clean, had the equipment I needed, and a nice little outdoor turf area for circuit training. I loved the locker room! So clean, nice sauna, and all the little amenities. The staff was also incredible! Grace at the front desk...so so kind and lovely to chat with. Ayesha was also fantastic and gave me a tour and rundown of the facilities. It's unfortunately priced a bit too high for what I'm ready to shell out (we have a decently nice gym in our building). I like that there are different sections of the gym and that I can use the studios when there aren't group classes. I feel motivated to come to the gym here and like that I'm able to accomplish pretty much any type of workout I want! I waited awhile initially to join but I wish I would've joined much sooner. Disrespectful Management If I could give zero stars for customer service, I would. I recently attempted to cancel my membership due to financial hardship, which GymTonic's policy states is an acceptable reason under certain circumstances. However, when I spoke with Dakota Mitchell - General Manager, I was met with rudeness, condescension, and a complete lack of professionalism. Dakota had the audacity to tell me that unless I lost my house due to a fire, moved 25 miles away, or I had lost my job, I am NOT experiencing financial hardship. Also he needs document proof. First of all you should NOT EVER say what a person is NOT dealing with. Who are you to define someone else's hardship? and judge! Instead of offering any real assistance in explaining my OPTIONS, he made demeaning comments about my financial choices, compared my situation to his own commute, asked me if i pay an car note asking what would i say to them and dismissed my concerns entirely. As a manager and representative of GymTonic, his job is to support customers and set an example as a leader to his team--not belittle directly or show examples of how to belittle customers. He didn't even attempt to offer solutions like pausing my membership, which I LATER learned was an option. And let's talk about the gym itself--for over $200 a month, you would think they could at least open on time. Yet, multiple times, I and many other paying customers have had to park in a long line outside the gate waiting until 6 AM because the gym wasn't open at 5 like it was supposed to be. Completely unacceptable. I gave them the benefit of the doubt because we're all people so it happens. The one bright spot in this experience was speaking in person with the owner, Taylor, who was respectful, professional, and actually helpful. Unlike Dakota, Taylor took the time to explain the contract, present reasonable options for pausing my membership, and offer a cancellation plan that made sense. Honestly, I wouldn't even be writing this review if it weren't for Dakota's disgusting use of words. I only wish there were a recording of our conversation so others could hear exactly how he spoke to me. I will never EVER forget it. No paying customer should ever be spoken to that way, and GymTonic should seriously reconsider who they have in management. An MIT course on handling escalations should be implemented to maintain brand integrity. This would be beneficial, as no customer should have to experience what I did. read more

What truly sets Gymtonic apart is the incredible staff. Phillip, Grace, and the entire team always ensure that you are well taken care of. hi yelp i'm back again to give a review to my latest favorite gym! from what i know gymtonic opened at the start of this year and i've been coming here since about february. i forget how i discovered this place whether it was on google or yelp or just driving down la cienega but the place itself is kinda hidden -- it's like in the back alley next to the Cumulus on La Cienega and not next to any major street so hard to discover tbh, i would never drive down this alley unless i was looking for it specifically but it's a hidden GEM! so this place is like a "luxury" gym so the membership cost is definitelyyy higher than e.g LA fitness that's up the street on la cienega but tbh you get what you pay for. for real. the price is definitely not for everyone but if you can afford it i think it's deff worth. personally i had never paid this much before for a gym but tbh i was tired of spending tens of minutes walking around a gym searching for dumbbells that people didn't know how to rerack so i decided to try something new this year. no shade to LA fitness in the suburbs, but LA fitness in the city is booty when it comes to people putting stuff back where it belongs. so gymtonic is the total opposite of that. the equipment is new (well, the entire gym is new lol), clean, spacious, but MOST IMPORTANTLY from what i've seen the members here are pretty conscientious at putting stuff back where it belongs. it's such a small thing but it makes SUCH a difference. imo everything else is just a cherry on top, mainly: - staff is constantly sanitizing the equipment / cleaning - awesome selection of classes that i don't take enough advantage of - general facilities feel very nice - (so far) it never gets tooo crowded at any time, though some classes i know are very popular shoutout to des, grace, jackson, philip + aisha at the front desk! they are the best read more

Gymtonic is the best kept secret in Los Angeles! Gymtonic is a non snobby boutiqe gym experience that is exceedingly bright,modern, clean, luxurious, and best of all, welcoming! There is an open gym and kick ass fitness classes. Take the Dance Trampoline class. Maddie is fun, encouraging, makes the class challenging, and she plays great music. Like the rest of the facility, the women's bathroom/locker room is bright, clean, and spacious, has four showers that include shampoo, conditioner, and body soap, like a high-end hotel There are amenities like towels, razors, lotion, hair bands, and shaving cream available free of charge. The bathrooms also have a sauna to aid in your recovery after a grueling workout Grace at the front desk is a sweetheart. She always goes out of her way to make me feel special. This is easily one of the best gym facilities I've ever trained in. I was fortunate enough to spend over a year at the gym when they opened last year but recently moved to Malibu. I was affected by the fires and move back to my old neighborhood for a few days. Phillip Han, one of the membership advisors took care of me and allowed me free access for a couple days so that I could keep up with my training. I am not a person who writes negative reviews, but feel it's important to warn people about this gym. The gym itself is really nice and has great equipment and clean facilities. If this were 1 month ago, I'd absolutely be leaving a 4 or 5 star review. However, when it came time for my husband to not renew his membership, the experience with Gymtonic went from pretty great to horrible and stressful. We were both 'founding members' and joined before the gym even opened. When I had to abruptly end my membership in July due to shoulder surgery, there was no push back. However, when my husband went to cancel his mid October, he was told he'd be charged for November. This would all be ok if he had signed a contract agreeing to a 30 days notice, but that was not the case. We signed a 6 month agreement only, and then went month to month (no contract). No where in the contract did it mention giving 30 days notice when switching from month to month. On top of that, when he asked to see the contact he signed that stated this policy, the person the owner passed him off to copy pasted a 'passage' from the contract. This could have been a copy paste from a google search for all we knew. That person also said the they had made an exception in my case since it was medical, however, there was no mention of the policy or that this was an exception being made at the time. Had that been called out, we would have tried to give more notice on his membership. In spite of numerous requests, they STILL have not provided a copy of the signed contact, and they still charged him for November membership even though he said they are not authorized to do so until they can provide the contact. They've gone completely silent! I support local businesses and was so grateful to have had this gym open in our (then) neighborhood, but recommend that you think twice about joining a gym that takes your money without proof of a policy and then ghosts you. They even said the November amount would be prorated based on the date he gave notice, but nope - they charged the FULL amount. Completely unacceptable. read more

Personally, this gym is overpriced and overrated. I'm speaking from both a bodybuilding and general viewpoint, but for a gym in 2025 to charge $200+ a month and have literally only ONE of each machine is unbelievable. Even worse is the wait times for these machines. As of this year there has been a growing population of visitors leading to longer and longer wait times. And to anyone who is decently strong or experienced in their lifting journey, these machines are LAUGHABLY light, you'll max out every single machine within a couple months, leaving only free weight variations. At that point you're paying $200+ a month for common equipment you can find at any gym. On that basis alone, I can't recommend this gym to any experienced lifters or anyone who is serious about bodybuilding, but also I wouldn't recommend it to any newbies either, you can find better gyms with WAY more quality equipment + cheaper if you look around. All in all, this gym is another 'luxury' overpriced gym that tries to sell you on the 'luxury' aspect, but we're here to train, and within a couple months you'll realize it's just a upgraded LA Fitness with more amenities. read more
