We really like to order takeout from Gyro Bites. I enjoy the chicken shawarma plate. My husband has enjoyed the beef shawarma and the lamb shawarma. The Greek fries are also so delicious! I love the hummus that comes with the meals. And the sauce and spices on the shawarma is so flavorful! My mouth still tastes like garlic, so I'm happy. Also, their baklava is yummy. I've been there at least 10 times and never have been truly satisfied. Usually, because I'm at Grocery Outlet shopping and feel hungry for a quick lunch. This time, the food tasted good but the order was all wrong, and not much of it. The mixed grill gave 1 tablespoon of minced gyro meat, 1 tablespoon of minced chicken meat, 1 tablespoon of hummus, 2 tablespoons of rice, 1 tablespoon of salad, one broken half skewer of kufta meat, and 3/4 of a slice of flatbread for $18.99 through Grubhub. It was a pick-up order and I was in a hurry for a bus, so I didn't check the bag. Bad decision. I won't order from Gyro Bites again unless I am desperate or someone else is paying, and I will definitely just order a sandwich. 'Sluggo brewery and tap kitchen', 'It's Greek to Me', 'Gyro Zone' and 'The Mediterranean Gyro Grill' all offer better quality food, larger portions, and better consistent service. 'Sluggo' has the best-tasting side sauces. 'Gyro Zone' and 'It's Greek to Me' both have excellent service, consistent quality, and good food for your moneys' worth. The 'Mediterranean Gyro Grill' on Bridgeport Way in University Place, just blows everyone out of the box with their high-quality grilled meats, specialty dinners, rice, gourmet salads, and perfect portions, enough for "left overs". I'll admit, there were mistakes made when I recently ordered but in the long run these guys made it right. I phoned in an order for dinner and was told it would be 15-20 minutes. When I arrived, there were several orders waiting to be picked up by Uber Eats drivers. I went up to the cashier and told him I phoned in my order, he recognized the order and said he was going to check with the cook. After a series of VERY strange events, the cashier came back and said it was going to be a little longer since the food never got started. I must have come between a shift change with the cooks because the original cook limped out the door and a new man replaced him in the kitchen. After realizing the mistake, the staff came out (cashier and cook) and apologized profusely. They opened up a delicious Mediterranean beverage for me (gratis) and said it would be a few minutes. Once my food was ready, the cook came out and handed me my food with several freebies- baklava, extra feta cheese and extra tzatziki sauce. He continued to apologize and asked if I needed anything else. At that point I was satisfied. They admitted to error, quickly corrected it and made sure I was taken care of. I can't tell you how many times I've run into this situation and the problem wasn't corrected. Customer service is a big thing for me and in my opinion it makes or breaks a restaurant- these guys did the right thing and they will continue to get my business. Good basic Greek food from a fast casual level place. For the prices, the quality and quantity are great. I had the falafal entree plate. It was 6 falafal on rice with tahini sauce, small salad, hummus, and 4 pita triangles. Falafal were good texture- soft but some crunch on the outside. Rice was very basic, not really seasoned, but the tahini made up for it. The hummus was good. Not a lot of spices coming out with any of it though, which is my only complaint. Boyfriend had the gyro combo. The gyro was good size, plenty of filling. His fries had some seasoning on them. Price for both was about $22 after tax. It's not a full table service restaurant- order at the register, fill your own drink, bus your own table, etc. our food came out pretty quickly but maybe because it was not at all busy while we were there. An unassuming storefront tucked away in an older strip mall on North 6th Ave near the Grocery Outlet. I shop GO regularly and had been watching their progress and grand opening. Well, yesterday afternoon I gave them a try. The interior is as unassuming as the exterior, very plain but tidy and comfortable. I was the only one there so I sat down to peruse the menu on the table. Menu looked very promising but could do with a bit more explanation under some of the less mundane items. Took note of the vegetarian options for my vegan friends. Wonderful Jordanian gentleman who struggled a bit with English came to my table. I ordered the hummus platter with falafel and will echo the previous praises of both along with the fact that everything is fresh and well prepared. Can't wait to try some other dishes, especially the lamb. I've seen so many businesses come and go in that strip mall I worry. I *want* to see them succeed. So, give it a try and spread the word. Excellent Eastern Mediterranean food in Tacoma. Excellent flavor and fresh ingredients. I had the Lamb Shawarma Sandwich and Stuffed Grape leaves. Both were excellent with unique flavor and made with care. The grape leaves came with tahini sauce that enhanced the flavor of of the grape leaves and acted as a nice counterpoint to the lemon flavor. The lamb was tender and flavorful with a well rounded spicy ness without being too spicy. I also had the Karoun Yogurt Drink which is like the Ayran drink from Turkey. I will try other dishes the next time I am at Gyro Bites. read more

If you have a child who DOESN'T love tasty Mediterranean sauces you probably want to consider requesting the sauce on the side or with out, or you will end up wiping and scraping it off the meat, as we did... While trying to pick up a delivery at Gyro Bites in Tacoma, I was verbally assaulted. While they have never been professional at this location, this interaction made me fear for my safety. When I had waited for 5 minutes and was seen by both employees, I asked if them from behind the counter if they had my order, he responded 'give me a minute'. When several more minutes passed, I inquired again, his response was 'if you want to cancel the order, you can' VERY aggressively; so I responded, 'I might have to'. His response was 'then do it, you fucking bitch'! I asked him what he just said to me and he said again, very angrily 'fuck you, bitch!'. There was another male customer in the store at the same time and he was incredulous and just shook his head. That is when I canceled the order and will refuse to pick up from there again. read more

I was sooo excited to try this place based on the other reviews. I'm a huge fan of gyros, shawarma, and any Mediterranean food I can get my hands on. I've tried many different restaurants from downtown Seattle to Tacoma and have yet to find one I did not like until this place. The one star is for the friendliness of the guy who was working the night I placed my order for two lamb shawarma plates. He was a very kind man. The presentation was about the only thing this plate had going for it, as well as the small side salad. The meat itself seemed very off in terms of texture and the seasoning was not good at all. It's not my first time having lamb shawarma so I am very familiar with the texture and different flavors. The hummus was under-whelming, and the pita bread missed the mark too. The worst part about this meal was the unparalleled food poisoning that came with. Both myself and my fiancée were insanely sick from this meal. I know it was this, because we did not eat anything else for over 4 hours before we had this for dinner. I definitely won't be back, I just hope this does not shy me away from trying other new places. read more

We have been to this place three times over the last month or so. We have tried about 5 different dishes and the food is delicious. Chicken shwarma is very flavorful and cooked just right.
