A small neighborhood Greek place in North Flushing that can sling some some gyros. We pass by here all the time going to many of the restaurants in the area and decided to come in to try some gyro for dinner. There's seating for about 30 people at the tables inside with some counter seating and a couple of tables out on the sidewalk. You probably won't be able to sit at the counter because it's loaded up with takeout orders with Grubhub drivers coming in every 5 minutes and walking out with 3-4 shopping bags each. We decided to sit down and watch the Mets on the big screen TV and ordered the Gyro Corner Special Platter. It has no less than 7 kinds of grilled meat (gyro, chicken souvlaki, bifteki, chicken bifteki, pork souvlaki, donner and loukaniko) for when you can't decide on what to get. It comes in 2 sizes, for 2 people or 4. It's served with pita, tzatziki sauce and a Greek salad for each of you. When the platter came to the table, we thought we had a chance at finishing it, but in the end had to take about a quarter of it home. But it was really good, especially drizzled with tzatziki. There are even chunks of feta cheese hiding in the tzatziki sauce! The pork souvlaki which is usually dry at other places, is moist when you cut it open. The bifteki was a little rubbery, but tasted OK. My favorite was the Greek gyro or donner and that disappeared fast. Horrible. Let me start off with saying I only ordered a gyro sandwich, chicken on a stick and a saganagi. This very small order took over an hour to get. They asked me 4 times while I was waiting for the name and I told them the four times and all they said it's coming. While waiting I witnessed the manger or owner guy be very nasty with customizes and staff. So I finally had enough waiting and got nasty with him. Turned out they wrote the wrong name on the order. The order was for Kayla and they wrote Sara. He tried giving me a soda as a apology and I refused. I told him it better not be cold and he promised that it wasn't. When I got home the food was cold. We haven't been here in years. We moved over an hour away to a house on the beach and there aren't any greek or gyro restaurants around here. I was so excited to have the gyro plate again. Surprisingly, there wasn't a long line outside. I ordered at the door and waited about 15-20 minutes. Upon checking the food, everything was greasy, like soaked in grease......the bags, the aluminum containers, the foil containing the side order of chicken fingers and the wrapped pita bread. Im hoping this was due to the food being a pick up order because the food was never greasy before. The appearance of the food in the take out containers was less than appealing, again Im hoping this was because it was pick up. The salad dressing on my salad was nasty. I should have tasted it before pouring on it. The bread for the gyros were soft but a little greasy. The gyro meat was delicious and the chicken tenders were very good. The fries were good but the amount was very small in our orders, Im hoping it was because it was a little after 9pm Im a little disappointed overall, especially after driving an hour to get here. The shocking part to me was the bill. I was fine with amount being 45.00 but the amount pending on my card was 54.00. I've never had this happen with my cards before in my life and Im old.....it's only 9.00 but I was irritated all night thinking about it. Thankfully this morning the amount on the card was 45.00. Now this place was nothing special to begin with, it was the kind of place you went to because it was the only non-fast food place open at that time, and you needed to put something in your stomach. But even that mediocrity has fallen off in the last few years. The gyro and doner is grissly, chewy, bland, it's barely edible. And when told the truth about it, they've done nothing to rectify this. This was a tough review for me, but it's probably a 3.5 in the end. I have been going to this place with my wife for years and the number one reason is the hot grape leaves. They are not a popular item at a lot of Greek restaurants, but I keep coming back for them with the lemon sauce on top. This time around they were a little bit salty, so that was a bit of a demotion. Why they didn't get 5-stars: A standard point of comparison is a gyro to me. I got the chicken gyro and it was a little lacking. The flavor wasn't very strong and the tatziki was just okay. I try and try but one worse than the last, this place is filthy they put paprika all over the souvlaki sandwich so disgusting, and the pork was like leather, the cook keeps walking outside smoking cigarettes the place is the worst of the worst avoid at all costs. Ordered a souvlaki platter that came with lemon potatoes and a Greek salad. Big portions for about $12! Can't beat that. The salad was fresh topped with onions, radish, green pepper, feta cheese and dressed with oil and vinegar. The lemon potatoes have a subtle taste of lemon so I usually ask for lemons on the side because I like that extra zest. But overall, the potatoes and souvlaki are cooked to perfection. The chicken was fatty, hard pieces, greasy and so salty. The tomatoes were not sliced and thrown in as huge chunks. It was inedible. I threw it out. I am furious I wasted the money. I was a regular but they are consistently forgetting items paid for in their orders. How hard is it? I place an order that I pay for with money. Then you give me what I pay for. Novel concept. But this place is more like a lottery where you win if you get all your items. Or maybe just half the items. Like let's just forgot one meal and an appetizer for fun! No big deal! Ordered food this evening. The review is regarding the delivery. The food was delivered and handed to me a total mess. Oil leaking all over the bag, I needed to open this on the sink. I ordered chicken cubes and lemon potatoes. Wasn't inexpensive and received the food in poor fashion. I will never order again from this gyro place. Not one burnt one (thank god) mozzarella sticks were ahhhhhMazing ! Lemon potato soup , excellent ! I was a little disappointed in the gyro though , it's hard to find a good place that makes the sauce just right . I may sound weird but there was too much meat and not enough veggies for me . Some favorite dishes are the broiled fish with lemon potatoes my mouth waters just thinking about those lemon potatoes right now! Do not order for delivery if you live in the College Point area ... 1 hour and 35 minutes later they arrived. I called twice after the 45 minute delivery time they gave me and not once did they even call the driver to find out where he/she was to delivering the food. Once we finally get it, one of the gyros is missing !! And then we find a bug in the lemon soup !!!! Totally disgusting .. then I called to speak to a manager/supervisor and I'm told that they are almost never around and my info will be passed along to them. Bugs in people's food, must've been mixed up with the pot it was cooked in and it's fluids & guts all over it ..This is just unacceptable !!! Reason I am extremely upset is because my youngest daughter was the one eating the soup and thankfully discovered the horrible bug. This place is not a good representation of Greek cuisine. Please try any place but here. I cant understand why people come here but maybe, on the day I went, it must have been an off day. Other local Greek restaurants I have been and would recommend are: Nikita's Place, Kalamaki, Gyro World on Northern Blvd and Plaka on 31st Ave. There was absolutely no seasoning on anything.
