Yay! This is exactly the kind of restaurant / food store our area needed! We ordered a dine-in meal…read moreand also bought some groceries. Among other things, they have really good-looking rice, spices, dates, tea and coffee, and biscuits. For our meal, I had the shakshouka with malawah (Somali-style pancakes) and my husband had the Buskati with rice. Both meals came with really yummy sauces, and we were pleasantly surprised that my husband's meal included a juice (there's a choice of mango, Vimto, and guava juice). The in-store dining is casual: bar stools and a counter looking out onto the street. Fine by us --sometimes quick and easy is just what you need, especially when you're catching a movie, are on your lunch break, or are running errands. Now to what matters most: the food. Delicious!! My malawah were so good that we ordered another four to go. They're basically like crepes -- delicate, flavorful, and slightly sweetened. The kind of treat I'd say yes to any day. My husband really liked his beef, which looked like a pretty fresh, lean cut and appeared to have some kind of spice rub on it. His rice was amazing; spiced with cardamom, I think. We also got a bag of mixed homemade cookies. The one we tried before even leaving the place was like a shortbread with coconut in it. I often have to go across town to get the spices and dates I like, so I'm so glad this place is just around the corner. We'll definitely be back for dinner too, especially since the manager was all smiles. What a great addition to Hopkins!

We stayed at the intercontinental St. Paul riverside. Used yelp to find a nearby place to eat. So…read moreglad this restaurant came up because it was delicious! It was a nice walk over the Mississippi River. The place is cozy and very clean. We were welcomed with so much warmth it was like having home cooking. We started out with the bread with feta. It was so good with the right amount of seasonings. I wanted to try the dowjic soup so I ordered a cup. I loved it! Yes it's lemony and has a lot of garlic which you could think is a lot of salt but these bright tangy flavors were right up my alley. Not to mention that with all that lemon and garlic it's great for your immune system. After a long flight this hit the spot. For entrees I had the bakla with chicken. So healthy and fresh. The rice had dill. Very tasty. My dad and his girlfriend had the Sheik Babani. They loved it. We enjoyed our meal so much that we went back on a Saturday in order to try the chicken Tawa which is only available Fridays and Saturdays. We had first gone there on Thursday. So glad we got a chance to try that too because the chicken was so tender and flavorful. Wish we were able to go again but they were closed Monday on our last day. Congrats to all the staff and owners for making this family restaurant a special place to eat.

I was in Minneapolis visiting, and I noticed during my short time there that there's a large Somali community in the city. I've never had Somali food before, so I just looked up Somali restaurants with the highest ratings and the most reviews, which weren't many. The man working behind the register was incredibly nice. He saw we were trying to decide what dishes to try, and recommended the goat with rice. We went with his goat with rice recommendation and a dish call Kay Kay. However, when I was ordering at the register, there was so many flies just flying around the cashier guy and his register. Behind the serving counter, it is all boarded up so you can't see the workers cooking or how clean it is behind the counter divider. I went to the bathroom and I noticed a small random unlabeled bucket/small open bottle by the toilet that had liquid in it, which I honestly don't even know what it is. With the flies and the bathroom, I really questioned the entire restaurant's cleanliness. I told myself while I was eating that I wouldn't be surprised if I got food poisoning from here. The next day came and I actually suffered food poisoning. I don't want to knock down a hard working small family restaurant. I genuinely think their food is delicious, and the people are so kind. They just need to work on cleaning the place and getting rid of the flies.
