I went to this restaurant and had a long order. I went over it several times and they didn't pack my 3 samosas which I paid for. While it was less than $10 it was frustrating since I traveled an hour away to try their food. The food was delicious but I was disappointed. It would be great if they had a system other restaurants have of writing down or typing in the order. I will be going back this weekend and hopefully they can make it up to me. I love Halal food from the streets of NY. New York Gyro does a great job bringing that to the Midwest. I always got the chicken and lamb combo so that's what I ordered. The rice was well seasoned and tasted fresh. I could eat it for days. The chicken was really tasty. The lamb was above average but I still enjoyed it. The veggie station has plenty of offerings. I had the cucumbers, lettuce and banana peppers. And of course you need the white sauce! I also had a little of the hot sauce. It packed a mild-medium punch. I would come back here. The staff was friendly. They also have burgers, fries, and philly cheese steak if you're looking for other menu items. The price is great for the amount of food you get! read more

I am in Saint Cloud Anywhere that is not chain? OMG! Found one! Saint Cloud has to be the chain capital of America. There are a few establishments downtown that are local, but get outside of that and you will be hard pressed to find anything that does not have more than one location. Was looking for a late lunch and happened to stumble across this place. Right near the Saint Cloud State Campus. Menu is up on the wall and kind of vague. Told the guy at the counter that I just want some type of gyro combo. He suggested doing a lamb and chicken gyro. They are not afraid to load up on the meat here! After the lamb and chicken were piled on, they have an add-on veggie station. Went with just lettuce and banana peppers as the thing was already filled to the gills with lamb and chicken. Also, got the tzatziki sauce on it. Delish, but messy! I will definitely be back when I am up in the Cloud again. read more

OMG! I love this place! I can't stop thinking about the food! This is a casual place with a friendly staff :). I was returning to Minneapolis when I decided to stop and drive through St. Cloud and find a place to eat. Zabihah.com listed this place as a business that serves halal food. I thought I'd get a gyro or something and then go back on my. I was shocked to find pretty authentic, delicious food. Maybe because I had such low expectations. Who would have thought a small place that's not in a big metro area, that has a funny name, and a Statue of Liberty out front has pretty good food?! Sounds ignorant, but I assumed the place would serve watered down Middle Eastern food. Instead I found a place that was hoping with college students and serves mostly South Asian (Indian/Pakistani type food). The menu consisted of samosas, biryani, chapli kabab, burgers, nuggets, chicken and lamb kabobs, fish burgers, gyros, falafel, etc. This was some of the best food I've had in a long time. It kind of reminded me of home. Some dishes are comparable to homecooked meals and food found in New York and the Bay Area. I got samosas, the combo platter, and a drink for about $11. The portions are generous and lasted me a couple of meals. I am sure if I wasn't being so greedy, I could have made the food last longer lol. I thought I'd probably never be back here again because I thought it'd be my first and last time in St. Cloud, but I am hoping and praying something brings me back up here hahah. I don't think I've ever had such a strong reaction to a place before. I definitely sound like I have an obsession lol. I guess it was that good :). My family and I have been going to NY Gyro over in Minneapolis since it opened and we usually order Chicken Tikka which is the best in our opinion, we even have catered their food for our son's Wedding Reception last year, but since the last six months we have been treated very poorly up front by one of their older employee who we have come to know is the owners relative. This gentlemen has no concept of customer service and have bad mouthed us on two occasions when we complained about our chicken tikka order being burnt on two occasion as they were un consumable. We have brought the matter to the owner but to no avail as this employee still continues with his bad attitude, so we have decided to never return to this restaurant at their Minneapolis location. read more

Yum! I'm so glad I stopped in. I don't live in St. Cloud anymore but I was happy to see a Mediterranean place had moved in to replace Subway. I loooove Mediterranean food and was glad I got to sample some during my visit to town. The menu includes gyros, pitas, and rice dinner plates, along with traditional American offerings like burgers and fries. I was planning on having falafel but the pictures of it on the menu looked scary - like factory formed hockey pucks. I decided to order them anyway and was happy to see that the falafel served here was not like the menu picture at all. In fact, it was made to order (well.. deep fried to order anyway). I had the falafel and rice dish which includes a huge helping of rice with 6 falafel on top, and a hefty helping of vegetables of your choice. The vegetables were presented nicely and seemed to be very fresh and were delicious. Both my guest and I had a generous amount of peppers served to us, so NY Gyro wasn't trying to stick us with a bunch of lettuce and cheap stuff. The rice was very yummy and was pretty much what you would expect from a Mediterranean place. I really enjoyed the cumin seed. If you haven't caught on yet, the portions are giant! Everything comes in a styrofoam sectioned box so leftovers are easily carried out. This place will feed the hungriest of customers one meal and those with normal appetites can extend this across two or more meals. Not bad for ~$6. One great thing about huge portions at this place is that the food is healthy (or at least relatively so) so you don't feel like crap after having a big meal here. One final note.. a lot of the dishes / vegetable options include cilantro. If you can't stand cilantro you're going to have a tough time. read more

I've eaten at places like this in New York City, Minneapolis, Chicago and other cities, and the food here can compete with the best of them. After reading someones Facebook post about this new place being open, but unsure of their hours I took a chance and stopped at 5 minutes before 10 during their opening week. The staff was very courteous even though the server confirmed that they would be closing at 10 that night (he said they plan to stay open later in the future). Despite my last minute order, I was treated well and not rushed. The server suggested a Lamb Pita which was prepared to my preference (vegetables, optional extras available like onions, black or green olives, chickpeas, jalapenos, several sauces). The pita was delicious (not soggy or too firm as is sometimes the case, but just the right texture). The vegetables were crisp and fresh and the green sauce was downright stellar. I noticed Samosas on the menu and asked if it was okay to order them just before close, the smiling server said it was no problem. As I waited I noticed a lot of other things on the menu, including burgers and fries. Which made me think to myself, any place that serves fries is probably going to use the same stale oil at 10pm that was used all day for fries, which means my Samosas will taste of rancid oil. But to my surprise, the Samosas were delicious. The crust was light and flaky (and I could taste the crust, which meant the oil wasn't rancid) and the meat filling was tender and flavorful. The taste of all the Samosa meat and the Lamb Pita was savory, it had flavor without being overpowering. I've later read that there is an actual chef working at this place, which is evident. Somebody in that kitchen knows what they are doing with Mediterranean food. The restaurant decor itself is humble, pictures of the NYC skyline just as you would expect at a place called New York Gyros. It was very clean during my visit, even at the end of the day. It isn't fancy, but it isn't pretending to be fancy. You will want to come here for the food. It strikes me as a simple but honest place with better than average food prepared by someone who knows what they are doing and actually cares about the food. I've been reading yelp for a few years and putting off creating an account. My visit here exceeded my expectations so much that I've finally taken the time to make a yelp account and jump onto the bandwagon. I only hope that as the newness of this place wears off and the Statue of Liberty pic on the wall begins to tarnish like the actual statue (see what I did there?) that the dedication to the quality of the food remains as high. read more

We stopped in here one day to grab two gyros to go. We were impressed with the size of the gryos, and the fact that you can choose from a variety of fillings (garbanzo beans, tomatoes, tomatoes with onions, lettuce, etc.) to go with your meat choice. Personally, I prefer sliced lamb to the cubed meat they serve here, but it's not a deal breaker. We were pleased with the gryos, their size, the fresh ingredients and flavor. I love the lamb pita! Tender and perfectly seasoned. And the pita is soft and over flowing with lamb and veggies and the tzatziki sauce is really good. Sometimes I will get a side of their hot sauce to add to it, depends on my mood. My sister doesn't like lamb so she always orders the chicken tenders and fries, really good and served super hot and fresh! The prices are reasonable, especially with amount of food you get. Gyro - which is pronounced "Jai-Roh" by New Yorkers, "Yee-Roh" by Greeks, and "That Wrap Thingy" by Minnesotans are wonderful hand-held offerings of lamb, tomatoes, onions, and tazatziki (cucumber yogurt) sauce, served in a warm pita. I lived near Chicago's Greek Town for several years and have probably eaten my body weight in Gyros several times over. This place ranks right up there with the best I have eaten. If you are on the hungry side I would recommend the Lamb over Rice combo which is a great deal and very filling. They also one of the only places in town that offer falafel which is very tasty. The prices are very reasonable, the service is always friendly and fast, and the food is amazing. Just happened to stop through this little joint on our way from the Twin Cities to Breezy Point. I saw the pictures online so I wasn't surprised that it was a small, hole-in-the-wall kinda spot. The food is FANTASTIC! (Try a lamb gyro.) The guys working were courteous, friendly, and professional. Servings were very generous. Oh man--the lamb gyro is the best in the area...LOVE IT. Fries, at $1.45 are HUMUNGOUS portions. However, I did noticed one of the employees cleaning up by wiping down the counters with a wet white bar towel. Nice. Until he got to the "veggie" part of the line, where he used the same wet bar towel to push spilled pieces of lettuce, tomato, onion, peppers, etc. back into their containers--these are the same ones they dish onto the food.
