Now that Wally's is no longer on the block, the locals all go to Gyropolis. I wish it would have been around when Lincoln High was still a school, the bear would be delighted. I grew up in the neighborhood and it was formerly a Winchell's donut shop when I was growing up. The Athenian, Spicy Gyro, The Olympian, Gyro Philly, Meatlovers Gyro are all favorites of mine. I recommend splitting a couple of these with someone else to try them all. Only downside is the place is small and its always busy. It can be tough at times to find a table and awkward standing next to a table with someone eating and waiting for a table. Come at an odd time if possible otherwise plan on taking it to go. Everywhere I've gone: New York, San Francisco, the Iraqi desert ... I have tried, nay, HUNTED FOR a gyro half as good. It doesn't happen. I haven't found it. You can't find it, because the best gyro of all time (OF ALL TIME) is in Bloomington, MN at Gyropolis. They don't even ask what I want anymore; they just know that I'm gonna need a Gyroworks with spicy tzatziki and jalapeño peppers. #Dasit. So delicious that I haven't even tried the gyro pizza that my friends have enjoyed while I pour over it with hungry eyes and a stuffed mouth. The place is quaint, the staff is über friendly. It's just this sort of "out-of-the-way" place, not far from the Mall of America. If there weren't so many great reviews on Yelp, you'd probably have to have it introduced to you by a friend, because there is just nothing like it - for sure nothing in the States. I have been there twice. Once at night and once at lunch. Don't order filafel. It was overcooked and big speheres like meatballs. It was so crowded at lunch. A huge line. I got my usual Gyro and it was good..very filling and well prepared. Convenient location and easy parking. Dont set by in the table by the side door at lunch. Go later in the day when it is more quiet if you need to eat and relax. Crew works hard and is fast. They have beverages about 8 tables and seem to be popular. read more

I have been coming to Minneapolis for years on business and am sorry to say that I have only just discovered this amazing gyro place that sits just a couple miles from my office. First of all, this spot has limited hours, so make sure to plan your visit carefully. It closes at 3pm on Saturday and is closed all day on Sunday. Secondly, this it gets as crowded as a NY subway station at lunch time, so, unless you are prepared to eat in your car, you may want to consider an off peak time. Now on to the real star - the food! The pita is warm and soft. Healthy portions of meat. Maybe because it is busy enough that they go through cones quickly, but the gyro meat was the most tender and juicy gyro meat I have ever had. The tomatoes were fresh and the onions had a nice bit. I strongly recommend that you go with the spicy cucumber sauce - unique, spicy, and delicious. I ordered the gyropolis and substituted spicy cucumber sauce for regular. The fries were fine and they serve Pepsi products. I ordered a small side of spicy hummus to dip my fries on. Best Gyro I've ever had. Not greasy. Fresh and crisp veggies. Even the pita was light and fresh. We dined in and there was a steady flow of customers and to spite the amount of people inside it wasn't loud and took very little time to order, receive our order and check out. Several customers spoke their satisfaction to the crew as they were leaving. We stopped here post workout and I felt great afterwards. Definitely going to become a regular. I was in the neighborhood and took out my handy dandy yelp app to look up a good inexpensive place to eat for fish friday. I noticed Gyropolis had plenty of good reviews so stopped in to give it a try. Though they don't serve fish but they do have many veggie entrees. Good thing I did because the food was delicious I really wanted to try this spicy gyro but since no meat I went with the spinach and cheese pie combo which comes with salad and hummus+pita bread. All very good I added in a pepsi for under 10bucks! The person on the front end was helpful and even added in a few pieces of baked potato :). Everything was fresh and good portioned for the cost. so thanks yelp for the awesome find! I'll stop back in many times when I'm craving some greek food. read more

This is a lunch spot for many Best Buy Corporate employees which is how we found out about it, I still will bring my kids to meet up with their dad for lunch and we all enjoy what we get. They're decent portions and super tasty, definitely something I often crave and it's always a treat for us to go! It's a really small spot, not much parking or tables, definitely better in the warmer months bc they have additional "patio" seating. Kids meals are very generous portions and reasonably priced. This is one of my favorite places to eat lunch. I work in Wells Fargo Plaza, so it's about a 5-minute drive. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's the best gyro I've ever had, hands down. The fries are also amazing, as well as the potatoes and the baklava.
