You walk in, place your order at the counter, they give you a number placard and they'll bring out your food to your seat. I got the kebab trio to try because I'm a glutton and couldn't decide. Husband got the lamb curry. The meat for the kebab was incredibly tender and juicy, even the chicken breast. Husband can't take much spice so he said it was just on the edge of his spice capability. The kebab trio and saffron infused rice were delicious. It could have used a touch more salt but when you combined it with the garlic sauce, it was perfect. I put that sauce on everything. I believe it was the owner who brought out my food. He was pretty funny. He apologized for the wait (didn't seem long to me, or at least I didn't notice it, if it was) and said, but it was worth it. I asked for utensils and he joked, $5 for utensils, then that the server will need to be fired for not giving utensils. I'm not sure if maybe we should have grabbed them from the front after ordering but it wasn't mentioned. Anyway, no big deal. The best things, and something I wasn't expecting, were the cakes. We had the Dubai chocolate inspired cake and the orange phyllo cake. They were both sooo good, the bright, orange flavor was so lovely--not too sweet. Wow! We've been here a few times now and it's quickly become one of my husbands favorites. He loves the grape leaves and we devour the babaganoush every time - I don't know what it is because I hate eggplant but it's so smooth and full of delicious flavor I can't help but gobble it up with the warm pita bread. The interior setting is decadent and warm, pulling the whole meal together. The only reason for 1 less star is staff can be a bit unpredictable in what they're willing to accommodate or change. I am not a huge vegetable person so on this first occasion they let me do double rice instead of the side salad but it's hit or miss if they'll swap it out. Tried this place for lunch. It's a casual spot where you order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Many people were also getting takeout. They sell larger containers of their sauces if you want to take their flavors home. I tried the gyro bowl and enjoyed it. The tzatziki sauce was creamy and flavorful and the salad toppings added a fresh crunch. The gyro meat was a little too crispy and thin. It had a nice flavor but curled up on itself. I also ordered a side of fries which was a very large portion. A nice side dish to accompany the flavorful bowl. I also tried the falafel which wasn't my favorite but had a nice crust. There was an odd blend of spices that didn't agree with me. To finish off lunch I shared some baklava and a turtle brownie. Shish has been a favorite go to of mine for many years. I have never had a dish that has been disappointing. Every single time, my entries have arrived with overflowing portions and fresh ingredients. It is clear that the owner takes great pride and not only the quality of his meals, but the presentation. I would not be surprised if someone told me he personally hand pics every single vegetable that is used in the kitchen, that is fresh quality focused each meal is. Their garlic sauce is incredible and I often get the Mezza platter if I want a variety of fresh meal eastern appetizers. If you like Mediterranean, Middle Eastern food here it is! My two favorites are the Falafel and the Curry. Get in the Falafel in a pita or wrap with some Tzatziki (yes, the tzatziki is great here) and be happy! The Curry comes with rice and a side salad. Both the chicken and lamb are delicious! I should mention that they also serve breakfast, lattes, espresso, cappuccino, etc. With the surrounding neighborhood and college close by they do a lot of take out. Went there on a gorgeous Sunday morning as from the reviews looked like they had sit down breakfast options. Beautiful place, great outdoor seating area. Plenty-ish street parking. I am surprised I had not written a review of Shish as yet and its one of my favorite Mediterranean restaurants in the cities. I had their Gyro plate over rice and a side of lamb bacon. The lamb bacon was a little too fatty for me. The gyro plate was delicious and very balanced. I loved that I had seconds for later in the afternoon. My Arabic tea tasted very wholesome and calming. Since one of my fave Mediterranean places closed recently, I've been searching for another that is close by, and up came Shish in that search. I may have a new fave. First to note, portions are pretty big, easily splittable for 2 adults, or save half for leftovers. It's counter service here, so you order then grab a seat and have your meal brought out. Tried the gyro plate and the only thing I would have added was some pita bread to make more of a sandwich. You definitely don't NEED it, just personal preference. The meat is accompanied by large servings of rice and roasted veggies. There are also lots of spreads to take to go l, so you can fill those hummus or baba ganoush cravings at home. Has your standard Mediterranean fare like kebabs, hummus, gyro but also burgers and soups and salads. The food was pretty tasty and came out fast. However, this time my friend and I decided to visit because of many great reviews. As you walk in, the big menus are posted up and the counter has friendly staff. You basically order your food, are given a number to put on your table and a server will bring your meal. I ordered the fattoush salad with chicken shawarma and the maza mix (to share) my total was $38 with tip. Servings were big, i couldn't finish my fattoush salad so I got a to-go box for it. I don't know why it's green, but something in the mixture throws it off for me. Baba Ganoush was very good but quite lemony for some reason. Hummus was good but my gaw, thy olive oil runneth over. And why do they pile that cucumber & tomatoe mix in the corner of the hummus and baba ganoush?? I don't eat either so there's a whole section of the appetizers that I had to waste...which I hate doing. And this mixture is not listed on the menu description, otherwise I would've omitted them. The patio is very close to the street and sloped towards the road so it quickly became uncomfortable. I moved to a table close to the restaurant but then the music was literally in my ear for the whole meal. Shish is a fantastic Mediterranean restaurant that I've been going to whenever I'm in town. I went to St Thomas and remember going to Shish over 10 years ago and the exceptional quality and taste has not changed since then! I usually order the Lamb Gyros but this last time with my family we ordered the Babaganoush which was roasted eggplant with garlic, lemon, tahini, olive oil and spiced, drizzled with extra virgin olive oil served with pita bread. It's a great vegetarian alternative. This restaurant has really reasonable pricing and we usually order takeout by calling about 10 minutes ahead of getting to the restaurant. Shish has great management and the staff are superb. I'd you're in the area, you have to try Shish! 10/10 would recommend when you're craving Mediterranean food. read more

The business is cute and is located in a nice area, but I wasn't amazed by the food. I would be interested to come back and try something else. The counter ordering and service was really good plus there is tons of seating! The pita came wrapped in foil so it was pretty soggy once I opened it. This unfortunately made it impossible to pick up and eat. If I come in again I might try a plate or a wrap instead - the rice looked good. Sheesh!!!!! I came in with a friend of mine and we were the first group in to order. Then 4 other groups came after, about 3-5 mins apart and they received their food first. People who came in to pick up orders received their food as well. My friend then received his food. I watched him eat. I then received my lamb bacon and 5 mins later, my pancakes. Not sure if they had to kill the lamb first. Yet, we wonder why chain restaurants are alway doing well. We ordered at the counter and the waitress quickly brought us out order outside. I ordered the fancy hummus and pita with chicken swarma and was amazed at how big the portion was. The flavors were unreal and the dish by itself was amazing. However, the pita really took this dish to the next level! Being able to scoop the delicious meat and flavorful humus into a soft and warm piece of pita was delicious!
