A little…read morebackground on our family and clarification to why we hired a company to project manage our renovation. My husband is an active-duty Navy officer, and I am an Air Force veteran and Ohio is my home state. We moved to Morrow County in December 2022 after living overseas. We have moved every few years nationally and internationally over the past 13 years as a family, and my husband has served our country for 27 years. My husband lives in Virginia currently to finish up his last tour before retirement. I am here in Ohio handling the home, three kids, 13 acres, animals, and the obstacles of this renovation. We are new to the area and did not have local contacts for skilled craftsmen or subcontractors. My husband and I hired SRS Construction (Blue Cardinal Construction), Donald Caudill Jr, owner, and project manager, to renovate our first and forever home. He presented a contract for the scope of the project without a written completion date. The renovation process began June 1st and as of today is still incomplete. In our household we have three young children, my elderly father, and multiple animals. After several written requests for an estimated time of completion for utilities, made by me and my husband, 42 days passed, June 16th to July 27th, without running water, working toilets, showers, and air conditioning. Don Caudill emailed me on July 26th with the following; letter is in the pictures. SRS Construction's owner, Don Caudill, hired subcontractors to complete the HVAC, electrical, and plumbing. After the work was declared complete, we hired licensed independent companies to come evaluate the work done by SRS Construction's Don Caudill. Based on their findings, electrical and HVAC are not up to Ohio code and and unsafe. The Structural engineer's report shows the vaulted ceiling is structurally unsound along with the stairwell. Reports are attached. We paid $54,000 to SRS Construction's owner Don Caudill for contractual work, and to date it is incomplete. We are now paying thousands more to fix the work done by SRS Construction's Don Caudill Jr. as stated in the professional detailed assessment.

In the Fall of 2015 we hired Terra Firma to do a large number of home improvements. He had done…read morework at my old house and I liked the work and the overall cost. Plus he gives a 20% discount for return customers. We hired him to: replace the roof, replace all windows, re-do the master bathroom, finish the basement with a new bathroom, bedroom and media room, and build a new paver patio with fire pit. All of this work took about two months and, overall, we were happy with the cost, quality and our interactions with him. He was accommodating to our overall vision and also offered us many suggestions to improve the end product as well. If we didn't like something he would make it right. He even came back twice after the job was done to do a touch up with the paint and to re-do the bannister that was loose on the wall. He also went over and above what the contract stated on different occasions. One example- He set up the electronics for the TV and the surround sound in the basement at no charge. That was a huge help to us. If I had to offer any improvement suggestions, his billing statements could be stated more clearly. For the amount of money we were paying for these projects and how little wiggle room we had over the budget, I monitored the budget vs the spend very closely and it was very hard for me to figure out the spend vs the work completed using the invoice tracking system he used. But he sat with me at regular intervals and at the completion of the project to go through all of the financials. I would definitely recommend him to others (and have) and will most likely use him again for future projects.
