I sat down and tried to build a rapport with him. He was very cold, like the owner, behaving like I was bothering them. I still tried being nice. He was still silent and when I asked him how long he had been doing nails he said 13 years and then said he was tired of it. The real fun started though when he was trying to remove my old gel on my nails with his fingernail!!!! Which hurt but also was unsanitary and unprofessional! I questioned him and it made him mad. I get my nails done all the time and never had anyone do this. Then he said fine put this acetone back on, then he sat in the pedicure chair and vaped!!!!! At this point I was upset and said why don't you use the drill (like most people). He then got up and grabbed my hang and started doing it. I was so upset at this point and he was clearly angry. I just wanted him to finish and get out of there! He didn't say one more word the entire time. I paid and got out of there fast. The owner was sitting two seats over and said nothing! It seemed like there was an upcharge for everything, plus heavy pressure toward builder gel and larger tips. I don't mind paying for quality work or tipping generously when the experience matches the cost, but this visit simply did not. What salons need to understand is this is exactly how you lose good-paying, loyal customers. Most people don't mind spending money when they feel valued, relaxed, and receive quality service. But when customers leave feeling rushed, overcharged, and pressured, they usually don't return. If a salon is truly trying to grow its business, consistency, customer care, and making clients feel appreciated matters just as much as the work itself.

Their prices are reasonable and they have a rewards program. They have a fridge with really nice drinks and snacks and plenty of hot tea as well. They have cute free-bees at the front like pins and hair accessories. I think they have wine but I don't partake. They have a huge selection of polish including my favorite OPI. Many polishes and all of them in good, new condition, not the dusty old dried up stuff you find in some of these places. And I really like all the staff and the atmosphere. Being there is pleasant. They also must not use certain types of harsh chemicals or maybe they have good ventilation because it never smells bad.

There was some confusion because he misunderstood that I wanted tips, and after having difficulty getting the tips to adhere, he eventually buffed them and got them to stick. I specifically asked if they would be okay, and he assured me everything was fine. Within a week, I noticed my natural nails were lifting. I returned for a refill, and a different technician cut my nails down and glued my natural nails. Unfortunately, they began lifting again. I returned and saw Will again. Yesterday, he glued my nails down once more and applied a top coat. By the very next day, several of my nails were lifting again. I contacted the salon and was told to come in at 4:00 p.m. so they could fix them. I made the trip and waited nearly 30 minutes, only to then be told by someone at the front desk that I would have to PAY to have them fixed because their policy only covers repairs within seven days and I was on the ninth day. That was incredibly frustrating and disappointing. I have now made multiple trips to the salon, spent a significant amount of time trying to get these nails fixed, and the same problem continues to happen. The work simply has not held up, and I don't feel I should be charged to correct a problem that has existed from the beginning. I understand having a salon policy, but there should also be some consideration for the circumstances, especially when the customer has repeatedly returned because the service was not properly holding up. Unfortunately, I left feeling that my time and money were wasted. I really wanted to like this salon and support a new local business, but based on my experience, I will not be returning.

So, I decided to go back to the salon I had used years ago - Idol Nails for my most recent fill-in. Idol Nails still does the best job around for the best price around. No, they aren't the big and bright, shiny new salon. But they have a lovely, pleasant and clean salon. But most importantly, they do great work for a fair price. And I will be going back to Idol Nails on Rogers Rd by the Harris Teeter.
