Good general communication and came and provided a quick and easy estimate and was able to schedule the work to be done quickly. They were professional and cleaned up well after the work. I also appreciated that they did attempt to limit the extent of the remediation as much as possible, working to preserve as much of the cabinets and structure. As for the cost, I felt it was quite fair. As a counter-example, I got an email quote from another provider that was almost 3X the cost, but didn't even know what the work was. So recommend you definitely get multiple estimates including onsite to verify the extent of the work required. read more

I used Yelp to "ask for a quote" or whatever the verbiage is on a Sunday morning. Within about an hour or so, I had a response from Brenda asking me my availability for the next day! When you have an issue behind a wall you can't see and mold creeps out, you are on overload and just want help ASAP. It was a holiday weekend no less, so we knew it would be tough to get someone to respond, but she did. Day of appointment - the gentleman who came was running about an hour behind, so nearly 6:00 pm he showed up. I felt terrible it was so late in day, and it really did throw our evening routine off too. It's now two days later and I have not received a quote back from H&L. During the inspection, he repeatedly told us that he does not do anything other than remediation. So just removal and treatment of impacted areas. Which was fine - we wanted someone reliable who could get it done ASAP! Needless to say, we did not move forward with them - I would be beside myself if I still had to wait to even hear back on a quote with active mold in my wall. We ended up going with a company who was able to come today and remediate, mold is gone, next steps are now in play! So I appreciate they were responsive to my initial request, but that was best part of service, it kind of went downhill from there. The previous owners of the house hid the mold/fungus in the kitchen sink area with a plywood sheet and it was not caught during the house inspection. When we found the mold in a couple of days after we moved in, we contacted a few companies. Most of them said that the countertop had to ripped off to treat the area (which in turn damages the cabinets leading to remodeling the kitchen). But Todd was honest and gave the solution of fixing it by cutting a small area of kitchen shelf (not the countertop). JR did an amazing job with the mold treatment. Cassandra's team at H&L has been amazing! She called me almost daily with updates on our fire remediation and demolition progress. She knows what all her guys are doing and she is personally directing the work. Her back office negotiated everything directly with the insurance company and it as been extremely complex. Our post fire testing showed no asbestos, but we did have lead-based paint that required a special certification to remove. Cassandra has the necessary certification to remove the paint which was nice because I didn't have to get a separate contractor to do it. Also, we needed a demolition permit which I guess is not common. Cassandra went down to the permitting office and handled it all directly with the city and she coordinated the final sign off of the demolition permit with no issues. Our general contractor stopped in one day to take a look around. He called me and said how impressed he was with the work because they had removed exposed nails and done other things that most restoration / demolition folks skip over and leave for the re-build contractor. H&L was fast to respond. My opinion: H&L wanted me to demo 3 rooms of sheetrock, bath cabinets and flooring stating this is the only way to determine if there was mold in my home after a 2 or 3 hours of flooding in the main bath. One toilet overflowed and they wanted to demo 3 rooms, including both sides of the walls from the spill, floors and bath cabinets. H&L even wanted to rip out the newly refinished oak floor that had standing grey water on it for a couple of hours without any visible water penetration, warping or damage. H&L said it was for MOLD safety to be sure there was no mold inside the walls or floors even after 5 days of professional drying in the home. Directly from H&L for the Asbestos removers to demo. "Hi Michelle, We are going to need 2' flood cuts wherever there is blue tape on the wall. * Master Bathroom * Master Bedroom * Master Closet * Hallway Bathroom No need for the vinyl flooring; that was replaced a few years ago." H&L went with rip out everything to clean up the home telling me I needed to do this work for safety reasons because of possible mold even though moisture meters recorded normal readings 2 weeks after the spill, no visible damage was observed and nothing felt damaged/soft. When I canceled H&L to regroup on 4-7-24 too look at my options Cassendra tried to bully me on the phone and kept talking about possible mold as I questioned her on removing the sheetrock. She then warned me about using non licensed people to do any work. H&L contacted my Tenants to let them know of all the dangers. Now H&L is telling me they sent some literature on "Toilet Overflows to me. That did not happen. The first I heard from H&L on the Toilet water "dangers" was yesterday 5-7-24 in their response here on Yelp. The city assessed the bathroom and said that no demo was recommended at the time. I emphasized that the toilet overflowed to the city. I had the floors professionally sanitized by another company. We had major damage to the kitchen of our 3rd floor condiminium. There had been a slow water leak for a period of years. Then a sudden refrigerator ice line leak caused our renters to notice the problem. It turned out that there was major water and mold damage to the cabinets and floor and subfloor. But by then water had leaked under the baseboards and mushrooms had sprouted from under the baseboards. Talk about something I thought I would never have to deal with in my home, a water leak that caused water to leak thru the ceiling in the floor below. Our dishwasher died and leaked, damaging drywall, adjacent cabinets (including a sink cabinet), and our engineered hardwood flooring. We split the remediation (to H&L, with its reputation) from the repair. The independent mold inspection was completed Friday with a clean bill of health. The repair estimator (a particular person himself) just left and remarked that the H&L job was meticulous and made the repair job much easier for him. He commented, for example, that our granite tile countertop could easily have been damaged in the remediation, but H&L built a support that preserved it. I only have praise for the owner Todd. He came to my house to look at a furnace that was leaking condensation to the point that I had a flood in my ducting. I used a shop vac to pull water out of the ducting, but there was some visible mold around the drywall tape near my furnace. He looked at it and told me that he needed to come back with his camera to look inside the wall. He came back a second time and didn't find any mold inside my walls. I cannot say enough nice things about Todd (owner) Debbie, and the rest of the H&L team. OMG! They turned what felt like a terrible calamity into a minor issue and saved me and my family thousands of dollars and loads of stress. In November my cat brought a mouse into our house from outside. The mouse found a gap near my dishwasher to hide and we couldn't get it during the night so went to bed. The next morning we awoke to our kitchen flooded because the mouse ate a hole in the dishwasher water line (braided nylon...mice are freaks). Hot water had been spraying into our undersink cabinet and ultimately all over the kitchen floors for ~2 hours from 4am to 6am. I called a few water remediation places and H&L was the most responsive and able to have their team to my house ~2 hours after calling. They cleared up all the standing water and wiped down everything with an anti-mold (my terminology) chemical after taking apart the cabinet and other areas. They put industrial-sized fans and a dehumidifier under the house and in the kitchen which we had to leave running for ~4 days. I thought for sure our wood floors and cabinets would be warped and water damaged beyond repair but after ~3 months I am declaring victory with only our sink cabinet needing partial replacement. The wood floors have very minor warping that will go away with our next floor refinishing. There is no damp wood smell or other issues in my kitchen or the walls and this is all due to H&L's incredible attention to detail. The cherry on the cake is that H&L is very reasonably priced. This is on top of all their attention to detail, responsiveness, friendliness, and guidance. I hope to never need to utilize H&L services again (ha, sorry Todd) but would emphatically A++++++++++++++ recommend H&L to anyone that has a water remediation issue in the future. read more

We (a condo complex HOA) called H&L for a potential sewage spill cleanup from a broken sewer pipe in the crawl space. H&L responded within minutes, and came out the next day. Todd went down that nasty crawl space, did a thorough inspection, came back out and said there's no sewage, just wet dirt and plumbing parts from the line replacement project. When I asked him how much we owe him, he said nothing, inspection is free! Wow... I did not know such good service is still available in this day and age. He said he would send us a report with pictures he took even though it's a completely free inspection with no work needed to follow. Completely unreliable. I called them to check out my parents place where mold was growing on the ceiling. They were able to come and inspect for consultation the following week. After taking a look they said they would provide a quote. Unfortunately they never replied--no quote or explanation of any kind. My parents called them repeatedly and they never once responded. It's likely because the mold was surface level and the job was too small and wasn't profitable enough for them... but if that was the case they should have at least replied and let us know. Very unprofessional. Especially when they had told us during the consultation that they would get back to us. read more
