I just saw a documentary of how it causes enormous pollution and clogged waterways and all of the USA clothing gets sent to Africa where is causes havoc on the environment there. So there I was - in the middle of all this. Temped to contribute to more if any particular item looked good. I headed to the jeans. I continued to fold up a cuff on a random pair of jeans carefully inspecting the stitching. I didn't really like what I was finding. I then placed my hand in the pocket, grabbed and pulled the pocket bag out - the material and quality of that was up to my satisfaction - but I left them there. For Jeans lately its been difficult - there is ever changing styles and fabrics it seems among all brands and its nearly impossible to find the same jeans 6 months or a year later these days. I constantly tear up my jeans. The knees blow out - they get covered in paint - and there is a sweet spot for me in terms of price and quality and weight - and I'm not sure I was seeing that here. I was impressed with the variety. Even saw some shoes for sale. This to me is so surprising when clothing retails put their hand in somebody elses cookie jar. First floor is dark, can barely see anything. Top floor is lit well and very organized. I dont know if maybe different managers manage different floors, but if they do props to the top floor manager. Products: A mix of mens and women's with tons of accessories. Lots of sale items ranging from 10-40 percent off. Nice bargains. Horrible customer service. The dude at the top cashier on 3/27 had to be extra in doing my return. He didn't ask why I was retuning it. Profiling jerk, after scanning the receipt and the tags he reviewed the numbers on the receipt again one by one with his finger like numbers were going to change. Then he looked at the 2 items hanging on the hanger he placed them on unpatching them like something was wrong with them. So I clearly asked him, Is there something wrong with them? He said no I just have to make sure that they're OK before I returned them. However, he had already inputted all the information for the return so at this point he was just being extra, but also profiling at the same time. Had he done his customer service job of asking me why I was returning them I would've informed him that when I made the purchase, I did not try on the items so I took them home to try them on and when I tried them at home, they did not fit so therefore I was returning them. But he didn't ask, and instead, he went into an assumption and profile approach. H&M can be better in hiring people. They already don't engage in the store. They can at least be better at the point of sale at the cashier. read more

None of the items on mannequins are actually in the store, they use them to get you in store then tell you to order online. I tried to buy this one and the nice manager told me they wouldn't sell it go online. I advise everyone just go online so they can close the store and the workers can be out of a job. Finally, an H&M with a huge men's section! The H&M in Newark has a men's department, but it's pretty tiny, and I don't usually find anything there. This particular H&M is huge, and this customer service is really stellar. The location is really good too, it's right near the Uniqlo, so you can pop over from H&M to Uniqlo and keep your clothes shopping going! I'll definitely be coming back to this location in the future. Great selection, great prices, and great customer service = a 4 star experience for me. read more

Just walked out of this location and received some of the most laughable service (if you can call it service) I've ever received at any H&M or retail establishment I've ever been in. Walked up to the counter where there was no line and two employees, an older Asian woman named "Suzie" and another employee, a young African-American woman who wasn't wearing a name tag so I can't call her out, wearing a horrid leopard-print sweater and orange lipstick with her scary-long purple nails whose paint was chipping in places. They were standing with a pile of receipts, both talking to one another about work business looking totally confused and very deep into their personal conversation. I stood there staring at them for so long it started to get awkward and strange, and I almost had to interrupt them to finally be acknowledged until the young woman finally looked at me (both of them knowing I was there but not wanting to be bothered to stop talking) and just said, "Yeah?" I said I have a return, and she said ok and resumed talking to Suzie and merely held her hand out looking away from me waiting for me to give her my item. I dropped it on the counter instead. These were the only words that were exchanged between us as she and Suzie discussed which of the two of them has officially quit and which hasn't, while organizing their return receipts. Though I guess you can count when she said, "$14.12 going back on your card," and mumbled something very fast and indecipherable about pressing the green button on the pin pad. When she finally handed me my receipt I snatched it out of her hand and didn't say thank you, behavior I usually frown upon but felt totally warranted in displaying in this case. I'm really sick of the shit service that's more common than good service in retail these days - stop your personal conversations when dealing with customers, show some professionalism, and grow up. It's too bad H&M won't do us all a favor and fire these two numbskulls so they don't have to combine their limited brain cells to figure out which of the two of them has officially quit. This review is for the sales associate Latoya. Absolutely not a good customer service experience. She was in a bad mood or something and I could not wait to get out of there. She was working the downstairs portion and she was not at the register when she had customers waiting. She did not apologize for not being at the register. It was like I was doing her a favor by buying stuff from her. She never said anything rude or anything like that. She just appeared hate working there or something from the way she presented herself. I love H&M and their products but they have a model of asking people to sign up for their rewards program on the spot when they are checking out. This causes huge delays and big lines of frustrated people. Consider changing this model to urging people to sign up when they walk into the store or after they pitches their items. read more

This store reminded me of a clothing section in a mega discount store. Dirty, unorganized and what was that red stuff smeared/stained across the tile in the men's section? Maybe I don't want to know. On the bright side, there was no attendant in the dressing area so it became self serve. No waiting around for a number or a room. The people at this store really care about their shoppers, unlike their customer service call center. I've been to this store 3 times in 4 days looking for a men's hoodie. On Sunday the guy at the counter told me they're getting a new shipment on Monday and I should call the store to ask them to hold it for me. Only problem is the only phone number listed is the customer service. I called customer service and spoke to a horrible rep named Toni who had so much attitude. I explained to her I needed to ask the store to hold a product and she was so rude and mean about it. I asked her to transfer me to another rep and I got a supervisor instead who refused to call or help. So I drove to the store AGAIN and Julian and the woman with braces (I didn't get her name) were so nice. I feel like the employee manual includes the words "be as unpleasant as humanly possible". My little sister thanked the dressing room employee and the girl responded with "whatever". My sister was polite, she only took in two items, she hung them up when she brought them out, there was no reason for the girl to be rude. When I thanked her, she didn't even look up, so I thought she hadn't heard me, so I thanked her again, and she looked up at me and rolled her eyes. When I said something to the manager, she got irritated with me and said I should just ignore the behavior. Another time, I came in to find a specific item that I'd seen online. I had a picture of the item, it's code, etc. I asked an employee if they had it and she said "I don't know". I asked her if she could check in their computer and she sighed heavily and said that it would be a lot of work and probably wouldn't be worth it. Besides the appalling service, the dressing rooms are the hygiene equivalent of a public shower. I stepped on a safety pin in my socks. No apology from the attendant of course. Seriously you guys??? I came here today, what I believe was the 2nd day of H&M in Pleasanton. I never thought I would say those words. H&M used to be the place of my dreams -- hit it up when you're in NYC or D.C. or one of those initial cities. Then it came to SF -- Sweet! And then to Walnut Creek. And then to the Great Mall in Milpitas. And now to Pleasanton. It is both cool and a bit disheartening. I love H&M, so the fact that I can now be at one in 15 minutes or so is pretty awesome ... but I always liked it because it was (at least for me) a *destination* -- not just some place you decided to walk in because you were already at the hum-drum mall. So it feels way less *special* now unfortunately. But I'm getting over it. Because I still love the clothes, they are still priced well and it's now easy access! A girl can't complain too much. I will say they would do better to have more fitting rooms, there were only, like, six or something (UPDATE: I went back, and they have two fitting room areas -- one upstairs and one downstairs). But the line actually wasn't terrible considering. It's pretty cool that they made this a 2-story location even though it's in the mall. I guess it feels a bit less mall-like because of that. I spent $80 here today and got two dresses, a tunic and a sweater (and a FREE!!! umbrella -- SCORE!!). I heart H&M. I just liked when it was more of a grown-up/20-something+ store and today, with it being in the mall, I saw a number of 14-year-old-ish girls wandering around. Go back to Contempo Casuals! Finally got myself over to the P-town H&M and boy what a great place! TWO floors of fun clothing with about 1.5 dedicated to the girlies. Woot! Woot! In addition to the loads of *affordable* t-shirt staples & trend-of-the-week fashions, they also carry stuff I didn't see at the SF locations....... that's probably a lie & I just overlooked those goodies but I swear it's true Point is, it pays to take your time & browse I've also noticed H&M quality has improved since they first opened in SF when everything was see-through & would rip apart after 1 washing - so props for that Layout is spacious, easy to find the trendy vs "classic" sections and best part is that there are no hoards of tourists grabbing & throwing everything on the floor like it's the Day After Thanksgiving Sale - which is a daily occurrence at the Union Square stores read more

Retail therapy... here I come. This is my new go-to place when work is just getting me down. H&M reminds me that I am young and hip and cool and should dress accordingly. The accessories and oddities are my favorites. The clothes are meant for midgets or munchkins - those of the Forever 21 midget crowd... for instance, I tried on a dress, a really cute dress that I totally would have purchased but it flattened my chest like Wiley Coyote & Road Runner when they gets run over. FLAT! And I am not flat... it was just SO unfortunate... but the same goes for all the clothes. Teeny, tiny little no hip hipsters can only fit into those things. H&M can keep their fancy bright colors and patterns and buttons and scarfs and hats and bags... So, before I went there the other day I only thought that miniature poodles could shop here for clothes but then I discovered that H&M has expanded their sizes and now they go up to size 16, which is great because not everyone is a size 6. 5 stars ***** for being tres chic and encouraging everyone to be a little different, but 4 stars **** for never having that damn vest in my size. read more

A gazillion thanks to all those yelp reviewers who honestly alerted others with their observations of the rude associates, assistant and store manager. When I visited this store I instantly recognized the nosy store manager, rude associates and the cashier mentioned in these reviews and completely ignored them. I saw these same folks being rude to other customers and hoped these customers read the reviews just like I did! H&M is basically cheap clothes for so little money.. It's like buying junk food. The clothes here are disorganized with giant piles of clothing lying around like a gigantic ball of garbage but then, really speaking, it's the McDonalds of clothing stores so what would folks expect? Greeting customers or being friendly and nice - the best place for that I think would be Nordstrom or Zara.. Too bad there are not many Zara stores around here. H&M's biggest competitor is Zara who also employs some of the most friendly and fashion-knowledgeable associates. But then Nordstrom, Zara etc are not cheap. People don't expect greetings or smiles at a McDonald's so it's best if people don't expect friendly service or smiles and greetings at H&M to be honest. The main problem at this place is the store manager. In my opinion, if the managers are not so great then the associates can't help but reflect the frustration as far as friendliness is concerned. But then rude employees/associates in any store should be unacceptable and not the norm. Although I didn't end up buying anything, I did feel their selection was pretty good. I was able to find many clothes in the size I was looking for (which is not the case at other H&M stores I've been to). read more

I love me some H&M and have been to many throughout the US and Europe. This location has by far the WORST customer service I have ever had at any H&M. Some lady was standing at the front, made eye contact and didn't say hello. I shrugged it off thinking it was early until I started walking toward the sales counter. One sales associate saw us and walked away to the accessories section to tell a story so another worker. Really?!? Then, after I meandered over there to politely ask to check out, she rolled her eyes and slowly walked over. Thinking this was a one time occurrence, I decided to give this place another shot. Wrong. I had a similar instance of workers just not caring and then one giving me attitude when asked if there was a discount for clothes with missing buttons. I'm not one for confrontation and have rarely ever been offended by a sales associate but being talked down to or ignored became a "thing" here. When talking to the manager, I still felt like nothing was accomplished. She saw nothing at fault with get sales associates or their attitudes. If I could rate 0 Stars, I absolutely would. I worked retail for 3 years and never have I given or experienced such poor customer service. I've been a loyal customer to H&M for years, never been a huge fan of the quality but definitely a fan of the prices and sales. I purchased a blazer out of the Emeryville store, and failed to realize two small stains on the item. I took my item to the Pleasanton store to return it and was coincidentally rang up by the store manager. We went back and forth for a while regarding why I was returning the item and after marking my receipt and removing the tags from the blazer he informs me that he cannot do the return. (I failed to realize he kept the tags to the Blazer) he doesn't offer me store credit, an exchange, or anything else. He simply bags my item and returns it to me. I contact the store later that day and speak with Deshawneka (assistant manager) and confirm with her that the store kept my tags. She explains that she would do the return but can't override the store managers decision, and asks me to return the next day after 1pm to pick up the tags. The next day I return to the store and run into the Store Manger again! After looking for 2 seconds he informs me he can't locate my tags. And asks me to return in an hour so that I can speak to Deshawneka directly to ask about the tags that he kept. Mind you he never offers and apology or an explanation as to why he kept my tags. I've already been to the store twice! What makes you think I'm going to return a third time? I've never experienced this from a store manager. The only way I can describe it, simply disgusting. Also disgusting was his appearance as a store manager. Never in a million years would I have guessed he was in management, if it wasn't for his staff informing me. Who is hiring management at this location? I had to contact corporate to file a complaint. Don't shop here, and don't attempt to make a return here! They're an embarrassment to the brand. read more

It's been almost two years since I last came here. I got a tip from my friend Els about the buy one get one free for knits so I decided to check them out on a Sunday. I checked their sweaters on their website, which by the way has no option to shop online. It's basically just to showcase their latest clothing. I thought I liked some of them but when I went to the store, I wasn't sure if I liked as much as when I saw them online. I bought one sweater and bought few scarves and leg warmers and leggings instead. I even had to return the sweater yesterday because for $34, it wasn't that worth it. I tried it on in front of a trusted critic friend (lol) and the impression was that I looked like a granny in it. Waaaa. The sweater was definitely warm but perhaps I can get something a little stylish? Make sure to get the sweaters that has tags that says "buy 1 get 1 free 'cause not everything is on sale. You will also get a 20% off for any item (not the total of your purchase) when you sign up on their website. I love H&M! This store in particular is a little small. Unfortunately, it's the closest one in the area. I like how the women's selection in clothing is divided by style, with the more contemporary look on the top floor and the urban/edgy look on the bottom floor. This saves me time, as I usually am here looking for work clothes. There's a small selection of men's clothes and NO kids clothes which is unfortunate. There were no associates on the floor or in the fitting room to ask for help. I bought a onesie, but found something better and wanted to return it. I tried to call the store but their phone number AND h&m's customer service number was disconnected so the only way to get in contact with ANYONE is to physically go into store. I went into store to return and the same girl who checked me out (blonde shoulder length hair) told me I couldn't return Bc it is like underwear or a swim suit bottom. The prices are nice but the clothing is crap. You're destined to find most of the clothes you purchase from here to fall apart in the washer, no lie. Thank goodness for the men's H&M store in Stoneridge Mall! Before my wedding I needed to find the right outfits for my groomsmen and myself, and they were a life (and money) saver! I had been looking for a lonnnng time for a light grey pants & matching vest, as it turns out, a lot of tuxedo rental places mostly have just the same brand light grey suit at every location, which looked great, but unless you're a teenager renting for prom with some special prom discount, you're going to end up paying a pretty penny just to rent! You didn't have to take the whole 3 piece suit/shirt/shoes/tie, but you still had to pay for all that even if you're not going to use it! Everyone already had shoes/socks/shirts/ties-so those were an un-needed expense. Not to mention it the suit had pleated pants and my fiancee all but banned pleats from the wedding. lol Luckily, since my wife Mandy is a wedding coordinator for The Test Of Time Weddings, she had other routes to find us the outfits we were looking for at a price we could afford. H&M was the place and Stoneridge Mall's store was a huge help! Not only were they the only store (with a men's dept) to have the matching pants to the couple of vests I found at Oakridge Mall in San Jose, they called the other stores to find out who which others might have the vest and pants in the sizes I needed. Unfortunately even with the helpful people at Stoneridge, they couldn't find any others in the sizes I needed. Luckily for me, it seemed that whoever orders stock for this location orders a little bit of everything and after just a couple trips I managed to outfit me and my guys. Definitely a retail therapy kind of store and prices but the quality of the clothes especially the knit ones are absolutely horrific! They itch like you wouldn't believe and do not breathe. But I suppose you get what you pay for. As for accessories, forget it, they break, unglue, discolor, oxidize in a couple of weeks. Sigh... I hope someday this company can make better quality items that people can keep longer than 1-2 wears, even if the prices come up slightly. Kids clothes wise - 5 stars! I think the Walnut Creek and this location's selection of men's merchandise is pretty much the same. I prefer this one because it's closer to me. Yesterday, I walked out of here with a beanie. What. Directions: 1st floor. Walk to the back of the store to find the men's section in a separate room. Young men's is in the back left corner of the main room behind the staircase kinda mixing with the juniors department so beware. That scarf might be meant for a girl hahah. I've been to every H&M in the bay area and even to some in Asia. By far, this is the BEST one! If you wear a Men's Small, you will find it here! The first time I came here, it was 2 weeks after the grand opening and they had the Men's leather jacket I was looking for. I already owned half of the Men's line and I ended up buying the other half when I went to this store. I felt like I was in H&M heaven! But take my word, go on a weekday. The thing about H&m in which I like is that when certain items get sold out, they don't come back till next season. So you don't have worry about another person wearing the same jacket as you.
