We would give them ZERO stars if we could. We have been going to H & R Block for 8 years. Betty Bormuth has been our advisor. They have always been slow but then three years ago our information was stolen in a break-in, that should have been our heads up. This year we got our taxes done early and I dropped our taxes off at the office directly into the hands of Betty Bormuth (our advisor). No one was at the front desk at the time. We had a 5-10 minute conversation, she had me sign some paperwork regarding digital processing and said our taxes would be ready in a week. 2 weeks later we got a call from the office assistant asking when we were dropping off our taxes. I explained I had delivered them directly to Betty and if she couldn't find them to call me that day. No call. 2 weeks later Betty called and remembered receiving our yellow folder but could not locate it. Then no word or communication. We next called Dany the branch supervisor. We talked with her twice over the course 2 days. In the first conversation she insinuated that we had never dropped our taxes off- taking no ownership!! She made it sound like Betty was now denying any culpability. The last conversation with Dany she promised to get back to us as soon as she discussed the issue with her supervisor. She gave us her direct line to call. We have called numerous times. Now it has been over a week and she has blocked our calls. They not only lost our taxes but all our personal information!! WARNING DO NOT GO TO THIS BRANCH!! They will take forever, they have poor security and to top it off they could lose your taxes with all your personal information!! read more

One of the most horrible business experiences I have had. I let HR do my 2013 taxes. In Summer 2014, I needed to make an amendment. I went into the local office to retrieve my records. They said I wasn't in the system. The very unhelpful associate (in Illinois) told me she couldn't help me, and recommended that I contact the office where they were done in Oregon (I had been told that my records would be available at any HR Block location). So, I called the Oregon office. The individual who answered the call again could not find my records, and suggested I call customer support (isn't that their job?) After MUCH searching (it was not easy to find) I located a number for tech support. They again said we can't find your records, and they gave me another number to call in Europe. After being passed around to several different representatives, I was finally given a case number, and they grudgingly asked me "how did you get this number?" Two days later, an individual from EMEA called me and asked me to explain my situation again. I was told they would call me back. The next day, they did indeed call me back, still with no answers, and they said they would call me back again. The next day, I called them back. After a long time, they once again told me to be patient, and they would call me back. Two days later, the EMEA support office called me and said they had located my returns, and would make sure that they were available in the US. I made an appointment at the local office, and once again: "Sorry, you are not in our records." I pressed the issue, and they contacted online support. Online support said my records were not available because I owed the IRS (absolutely not true). The local office (to their credit) worked for 20 minutes to attempt to get resolution to no avail. I went home and called the Portland office: no record of my existence. I called EMEA support again two times asking for a call back. After the second time, they called back and said, hmmm, don't understand this. Let me call the Portland office and try to clear this up. I will call you right back. It is now two days later, and no call back. I was unable to elevate the issue to the Oregon district manager, as I was told, sorry - I can't help you. I give up on this worthless piece of crap organization, They may do your taxes for you, but forget about them helping you in the future. I now have to retrieve my records from the IRS and hire a private accountant at more than the original charge from HR Block to make a simple amendment. Not to mention the hours I wasted trying to resolve this with NO help from HR Block. They flat out lost my records, and then lied about it. read more

I will just say this.. I called on a monday at 5:20 pm, got an appointment for 8:00 pm the same night, and taxes were filed and rebate on the way at 9:00 pm. The guys I ran into were your standard Hawthorne fare..cool, easy going, easy to talk to and honest. If you want your taxes done right, go THERE. And when you are done, go to the taco bar right up the street for some good eats. HOOWAAA! read more

I had an extremely positive experience with this office at the beginning of April. I had no trouble getting an appointment and the office was welcoming and spotless. The highlight was my tax preparer, Mariette Blay. She was very friendly, helpful and eager to answer all of my questions. She spent twice as long with me as did my preparer last year (from that other big tax company) and the price was virtually identical. I left more knowledgeable and ready to improve my record keeping for 2010! read more

As a final kicker to the incompetence of this office, over $400 later, I'd arranged to have my tax payment withdrawn directly from the bank and to have it come out early to avoid any possible problem. I kept checking, but no funds ever left my account. Finally, April 14th, when I called to see what was going on, I was told by H & R Block: "Whoops, We wrote down your account information wrong." If I hadn't checked, I would have been late paying my taxes and been responsible for a penalty. As tax preparers, H&R Block's JOB is to get the numbers right. How can you bungle that? My experience here has been horrible. Not only did the agent forget to get me my American Opportunity Credit for 2010, but they took my money and brushed me aside when my tax return was rejected due to identity theft. I got a call from the employee who did my taxes a couple of days after I filed, saying there was an error and they needed me to come in. I was pretty scared because this had never been an issue. He informed me that someone had filed taxes in my name. Now incredibly distressed, I expected H&R to be of some help in this situation, but all I got was an envelope with my tax papers (unstamped) and directions to the IRS. He said I had to file with them instead and had to take care of the issue myself. When I asked if I would get a service refund he said "No". I asked why and he rudely stated that since it was not H&R Blocks fault, they did not need to refund any of my money. He said if I found out it was not identity theft, then I coud come back and he would do my taxes for free. But its NOT FREE!! I paid $150.00 for them to do my taxes, only to end up having to DO THEM MYSELF, and not get my refund for possibly 6 months. Plus, as stated above, a clueless agent from a previous year did not get me my American Opportunity Credit, which resulted in me having to get an additional job to pay for my summer tuition and rent. This place is horrible. The employees are also very rude. When I said I didn't understand why I wouldn't get a refund, he condescendingly said "Well, I dont know how else I can explain this to you." I expect most branches are the same. No wonder he was so persistent about getting me to pay the fee up front, instead of having it come out of my refund. I feel like I've been ripped off. The IRS will do your taxes FREE for those of you who dont know. Terrible experience! read more
