We turned to H&R Block for the first time this year and were met with a deeply disappointing experience. A mistake on our business tax form cascaded into an error on our personal return, and the tax officer responsible offered no apology. The timing was particularly damaging, as we were in the middle of a mortgage application and the errors forced us to request amendments to both forms, generating extra documentation and unnecessary back and forth with our lender during an already delicate stage of our escrow process. For a service we paid hundreds of dollars for, we expected accuracy and professionalism. We received neither, and we will not be returning. read more

Surprisingly good experience! I mean, who really loves doing their taxes? No one that I know. I impulsively scheduled an appointment, totally unprepared. I just knew if I didn't do it now, it'd never get done. When I got there, I met with Paul Tuttrup--- the agent I was matched with through the online appointment system. He was pretty great. He explained what he was doing as he did it so that I knew what was going on, but didn't overwhelm me with information overload. I felt like I was definitely seeing a tax professional, but it was also like sitting with a family friend. I'm planning on using his services again. I actually left knowing a bit more about taxes and what to keep records of for next year. It was much less painful of a tax experience than I had anticipated. read more

I scheduled an appointment with Charlotte at 11 am and she never called me although she sent a confirmation text. The day before I told her assistant to make sure to call me at 11 am because of my job. I asked my job to start one hour later because of the phone call, after 40 mins I called them and the assistant told me she will eventually call me back. What a joke! If I could provide 0 stars I would. I sought out tax preparation services in 2021. I found out when I went to file my 2022 taxes in 2023 that the H&R Rep misfiled my taxes and I needed it to be amended. I had to file an extension and reach out to H&R block. When I contacted H&R Block to help me resolve the issue I found out my original rep no longer worked there and they assigned me to Diana. Initially she was helpful and provided me support through their online messaging. However, Eventually I heard nothing for her after providing all the necessary info. I had to call in to find out Diana was not even in the office and another woman had to help me. Thank goodness I was able to get my 2022 taxes filed in time bc the new representative helped me managed my 2021 amended tax. After filing my 2021 amended in the fall of 2022 I was issued a bunch of penalties by the state and fed. I contacted H&R block to see if they can assist in resolving penalties that were a result of their issue. I spoke to Diana again who apologized for her lack of contact as she was on vacation, and shared she would help me. I even filled out a POA form so she can "contact the IRS for me." It is now March of 2024 and I still have gotten no support from H&R block. I have followed up with them multiple times will no real follow up and they often do not call me back. Once, I scheduled an appt to talk to Diana over the phone and she didn't even contact me. I also recently contacted the office requesting to speak to the supervisor and they advised me he would call back but again I am still yet to receive a follow up from a supervisor. I was forced to pay the penalties to try and avoid garnishment but due to confusion of my later yr taxes being filed there was still a small amount garnished. I would avoid this office at all cost. read more

I filed my taxes with these people. It's been 5 months, no refund and no record of it with the IRS. They don't respond to my calls. The tax "Professional" is on vacation, nobody is helping. It's absolutely amazing how much they can charge for somebody that barely makes any money to begin with for somebody making around $12,000 a cost almost $300 to file with fees and add one just to get a check mailed to you from the irs. I had an appointment at 7pm last night that I had scheduled way in advance with Diana. 7:15 rolls around and the woman at the front desk said Diana would be done in 5 minutes. I was still waiting at 7:40 when she then decides to tell me that she's still with her client and it's going to be a longer wait. Pretty upsetting considering I had an appointment to see her and waited for a long time. I had to see someone else since I didn't have much of an option at that point. Luckily I saw Paul who was very nice and helpful. Point is their customer service isn't great. Don't schedule your clients if you don't have the time to see them. When I left Diana was with her next appointment that would've been after mine. Makes no sense - they shouldn't have booked my appointment at that time if she wasn't going to be able to handle it. I also heard Paul ask her if she wanted to take over while we were in the middle of my appointment and she said no. Super rude considering I waited 40 minutes past my appointment and still didn't meet with her. read more

I came as a walk-in (there are letters on the door that read, "walk-ins welcome". I asked about price for tax refund preparation and the lady at the front desk at first said no one was available but then said someone might be able to give me an answer. She walked me to a cubicle where an older gentleman. I asked about the fee/price and showed him the W2 form I have from work. He informed me that a simple filing with just W2 form would be $118 & could be done in a moment. He would be able to get them done. I noted that I have 1 dependent and then he said that that requires a whole different form and it very different and would cost "a couple hundred dollars". He wouldn't be able to help and I would need an appointment. I actually came ready to get my tax refund prepared and was surprised to find that they weren't willing to even try to help me. Not sure when having one dependent would be so difficult. I also stated that I had previously filed at H&R Block, thinking it would help me to get my tax refund processed. Nope. They had no interest in having me as a customer. read more

Pay twice as much as an independent professional accountant, receive less than half the service. We used an accountant (to be somewhat nice I'll just give initials: DQ) there for a couple of tax years. She always had an air of being frenetic and disheveled and a little confused - not confidence inspiring to start. But, much worse was that she either intentionally tried to hide (or ineptly did not understand) basic information about how the tax return between my spouse and myself was divided (ie how much of the return was for my income vs my wife's). It took literally 3-4 weeks to get a straight answer and again, literally many phone calls and visits, and finally getting this person and her manager on the phone. What a waste of my time. As point of comparison our new accountant completely understood my request and within a total of 2 minutes provided me an answer. Do not waste your time or your money - going with this company means you're paying for overhead and seemingly getting worse service than an average accountant. read more

The irs sent me papers that I had to send in but needed help from a professional since I was the one that did my own taxes and did them incorrectly. I told the receptionist my issue over the phone and asked if they could help me...she said yes. So I went in and the guy that helped (Paul) me felt like a car sales man. Trying to be funny and gain my trust a little to hard. So when I told him my issue he kept getting frustrated at me even though the receptionist told me someone could help. Then he wasn't able to fix my issue by hand so he had to redo my tax form on the comp which is ok as long as he did it correctly. He said I'm not going to put all your info in because it should work...I don't know if it has worked since the irs is still reviewing my papers. Then because he didn't read my documents he kept getting frustrated at me because he had to retype some things in. All he had to do is look at my paper and he would've got the answers. He kept going back and forth being nice and being frustrated. I hope my documents are good enough for the irs but my gut feeling told me I should've just left but I was desperate to get my documents to them. Then I was told when I made the appointment that they would charge me 25$ for this and the guy seemed frustrated about that too. Then when I went to pay something happened to their machine and it took 20 minutes for me to pay and I was in a hurry to go to work. I won't come back here again. read more

I have actually been going here for two years in a row now that I found Yelena! She is super patient and personable and really takes her time and gets u back the most u are eligible for !! She is a helpful and thorough person and that's what counts for me yes it can be a little pricey more than some random shops, but worth every penny and the peace of mind, that it will be done right and with the upmost of care and time put into it . Yelena found a mistake done by the computer system and called tech and fixed it for me taking her hours .... she really does go above and beyond to do an exceptional job to help u get the most or save the most you can. Terrible, horrible, bad, bad news! Called ahead of time, made an appointment, explained our situation and asked for an estimate (which we were told would be $200). Our appointment, somehow lasted 3 hours while tax preparer Peter pored over documents looking confused. When he finally finished, he informed us that the cost would be $450! I asked why he had more than doubled what we were originally quoted, and he said because it turned out there was more to our return than expected. I told him that wasn't true. I had explained every single aspect of it over the phone when I made the appointment, AND even directly to him when we first sat down. We argued back and forth, but I said what he had done was completely unethical and misleading, and we did not want to do our taxes there. I asked him to return our documents so we could leave. The next day I got a call from Peter, saying that he could give us a $40 discount if we went back. I said we were not interested. It was then that he informed me that he had "inadvertently" kept some of our tax documents. I asked him to mail them immediately, and he said he would. Almost 2 weeks later we had not received the documents, even though I called numerous times to check on the status, and was told every time that they had already gone out. Two days ago I called, and told him that withholding our tax documents was illegal, and that I was going to report him immediately. Today we got the documents. They are postmarked two days ago. :/ read more

They set me up with Paul who was patronizing and made me feel extremely stupid that I didn't understand which forms he was asking about and all the terminology he was throwing at me. He sounded impatient that I didn't understand and it got me so frustrated that I just wanted to hang up the phone. He was rude and I could tell he wanted to get off the phone because I heard him say to his colleague "yeah I'm almost done here" I would not recommend getting a consultation with them. read more

Can't decide whether staff is incompetent or scam artists. The number one thing H&R Block is know for is improving your tax situation. This office and the jack-off they assigned me too did nothing to help. The extent of their effort was walk me through their online tax program (which is just a carbon copy of the basic version of Turbo-Tax). I didn't save a penny on federal taxes and I the fee for going into the office was double what it would have been had I gone through the program myself. Have a small child or chimpanzee do your taxes, or instead of filling out your forms break a pen in half and splatter ink all over them, you'll get better results. Just avoid these people. read more
