So I took them to one of those tax places that are in malls. Because I had been audited the year before they audited me again. They wanted to see all my tax receipts. So I sent in everything I had. The amount I claimed and the amount I had receipts for didn't match. I knew I had given the receipts to the tax people. They denied having the receipts. So again I ended up paying more plus a fine. Ten months later I received the receipts from this firm apologizing for overlooking returning them to me. THAT is when I started to use Murray Wiseman. He has been doing my taxes for the past six years and I have never had a problem with the tax people. I feel secure in knowing that they are done properly and quickly. Not having used them before, I emailed someone named Brenda at Pain Free Tax, asking if she had a…read morePTIN number(needed for anyone being paid to do cross-border taxes) and any other credentials that would allow me to feel safer sending past tax returns to a complete stranger, since they would include my social insurance number, social security number and much more in the way of sensitive personal information. She assured me she had a PTIN, and asked if a video meeting would reassure me(I live in a different province). I reiterated that the credentials would help me to go forward, in a friendly manner, as I felt a bit uncomfortable asking. This is what she emailed me back(draw your own conclusions - it certainly told me enough): "Good Day Audrey, I cannot  provide you with my PTIN number via email- It is like your tax data- confidential information. You seem to have significant hesitancy around this process. At this point we have decided to decline to provide tax services for you." Before finding out about Jessica, I called up all these other tax agencies and spoke with people that didn't sound like they really knew what they were talking about and many times gave me conflicting information. When I spoke with Jessica, she was able to give me good answers to my questions that I was able to understand, and also gave me great suggestions for my business! I called her probably about 3 times during those first few weeks, and was worried she would get annoyed with my questions, but she never did and always seemeed happy to hear from me. She helped me out with my state taxes, which literally, took maybe 2 minutes to complete. Wow! Talk about fast in-and-out service. I was also really impressed with how neat and clean her office was, and how she could pull up answers to question in minutes either on her computer or in some manuals she had. That last tax professional I saw about 10 years ago, had paperwork splattered everywhere, and had clients constantly going in & out of a very tiny office, where everyone could hear your personal information. I was so horrified by that experience & the fact that person bungled up my taxes, that it took me 10 years to go see another tax professional. I feel so lucky that I finally found Jessica, who I am totally confident in her ability to do my taxes properly and that I will get the best deduction I can get with her help. She apologized for the poor communication, which I appreciate--though I'm not sure why the administrative assistant (whose role I assume is to communicate/schedule on behalf of the accountant) is less communicative than the accountant herself? They are very responsive when trying to get your business, but as soon as you pay they disappear off the face of the earth. I have no idea what the status of my tax return is, nor whether the proper returns were even filed. One of the state tax departments reached out to me asking me to pay more and Dimov tax will not even confirm whether they filed that return, nor advise me on what should be done. The "administrative assistant" assigned to my case has not responded to my emails for a week, and when I try to call her it instantly gets sent to voicemail. I'm not sure what kind of people get 5-star treatment here, but it's certainly not everyone. In the past, we've also tried to schedule calls due to difficulty communicating and getting answers over emails, but the staff made it extremely difficult to do so, asked for what our questions were over email, and then gave non-answers to the questions and cancelled the meeting saying that the questions were already answered. I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt that it was peak tax season when we reached out and hence we had difficulty reaching them, but the pattern is very clear: when they want payment, they will respond; after payment is given, service drops to almost zero. I would highly advise you to stay away from this business.
