Cris Hughs - Scammer gonna scam. I should have done my homework. Everyone reading this should pay attention to the review on this company by Chief C. Communication was great for two positive experiences. On the second call we agreed to renew our entire gas fireplace on 1/2/2026. I made an unusual and large mistake of trusting this person and Zelle'd $600. He said he was broke and needed 2 weeks to get the logs/etc delivered. He never reached out after that. After multiple calls and texts by me, I finally got a response from him on 1/15/2026, the lie was logs will be in tomorrow and then I will reach out to schedule after that. No more responses after that. A Class B misdemeanor in Texas carries potential punishment of up to 180 days in jail and/or a fine of up to $2,000. The sheriff department will be explaining this to him very soon. Cris Hughes charged me for a cleaning service I did not ask for. Cost: $45.00 Cris Hughes installed gas fireplace hardware in my fireplace that is not compatible with my system. Cost $450.00 Cris Hughes blamed the switch for the malfunction & instructed me to get an electrician to evaluate the switch. I contracted and paid an electrician to find that the switch is in good working order. Cost: $195.00 Cris Hughes won't answer his phone and has blown off all my voicemail messages. Cris Hughes has blown off all my text messages Cris Hughes has cost me $690.00 for absolutely nothing. After not hearing from Cris Hughes for about a week, I contacted him. He said the he would have the parts in a few days, at which point, he'd get back with me about scheduling the installation. Okay. A few days later he contacted me and we set a date for the installation. On the day of the installation, Cris Hughes texted me a few minutes before he was scheduled to arrive, and ask to reschedule for another day due to a family emergency. We rescheduled. This is when the spidey senses first kicked in. I should have listened. On the day of the installation Cris Hughes showed up, expressed his exasperation about having so much work to do to disassemble my fireplace in order to carry out the repair, but started the work of disassembly . (Spidey sense elevation) I left him to his work & went back up to my office. Some time later I heard him calling out, so I went downstairs to meet him in the living area alongside the fireplace. Everything was back in place and he was standing beside the area where the fireplace switch is located. Everything looked good and my spidey sense went downward a few degrees. But wait... At that point Cris Hughes informed me that he had successfully installed the replacement hardware but it would not light because there was a malfunction between the switch and the new fireplace hardware and said I should get an electrician to inspect & repair the switch. Then he told me I owed him $450.00 for his work. I paid him. Using Zelle. (que spidey sense elevation) After having an electrician evaluate the switch and circuit to the assembly, the electrician confirmed what I thought all along. The switch and circuit function normally. (spidey sense overload) Cost of electrician service to evaluate the circuit: $195.00 I tried calling Cris Hughes on his cell phone. It rolled to voicemail (no surprise). I left a message asking him to call me back. Que crickets. One day later, I texted Cris Hughes and asked him to get back to me about finishing the job. (Crickets) I later dug around and found a reputable gas fireplace installation & repair company (I did my due diligence this time. ALWAYS do a bit of research before hiring someone on yelp. Any hanyock can set up a yelp presence). After the repairman evaluated the fireplace components, he informed me that Cris Hughes used a part that is not compatible with my fireplace and it would need to be replaced (spidey sense confirmed). So, Cris Hughes cost me a total of $690.00 for absolutely nothing ($45 for the cleaning I did not ask for + $450 for a non-working repair + $195.00 for the electrician). He came on a Sunday and cleaned out our fireplace and checked out the chimney on the roof and put a new cover on the top.

So far, so good! I'm in communication with Cris and it was very easy to set an appointment that works with my schedule. His response time was awesome to obtain a quote too! Finally, the price quoted is very reasonable for the service requested. I am editing my review now since service was completed. Cris was extremely knowledgeable and professional with the fireplace inspection and cleaning. He went above and beyond for me and I can't thank him enough. Cris Hughs from H & Sons did a great job on our chimney cleaning and repairs. We have an older house (1978) and the top of the chimney was in pretty bad shape. The cap was cracking and flaking apart, plus we didn't have a cover over the opening, so rain was making it's way down the chimney. Cris ordered a new cover and rebuilt the cap in addition to repairing some of the bricks. Cris was very responsive, had great communication, and was very reasonably priced. I will use Cris again in the future; in fact, I'm on his schedule for another cleaning and check-up in November of 2024! read more
