In 2013, I purchased a townhome in need of total renovation. The inspector pointed out that the…read moresump pump needed replacement and the furnace may need to be replaced in the near future. After a year of dealing with a noisy furnace that was unable to heat my townhome adequately and an inadequate central air conditioning system I decided to get estimates on replacing the furnace and sump pump, cleaning the a/c compressor, draining the hot water tank and placing a pan underneath which was also recommended by the inspector. My employer highly recommended Quinnair so they were the first company to evaluate my jobs and give an estimate. Another company would only give an estimate on the furnace and sump pump and the third company would only give an estimate on the furnace. I decided to hire Quinnair, not only were they thorough, they included several additional services with their estimate along with a much better furnace (97.3% efficient) than the other companies who offered an 80% efficient furnace. Their Better Business Bureau and Angie's List ratings were much better than the other company's ratings. The afternoon before the furnace was scheduled to be installed, I had set my central air conditioner at 77 degrees and at that time the interior temperature was 78. I left for a few hours and when I returned the interior temperature had increased to 81. I had hoped that a thorough cleaning would solve this issue but when the representative arrived the following day, he examined it and found that the compressor was fried and it was inadequate for the size of my home. I had to make a decision quickly and if it wasn't for the representative's knowledge of current financing offers, I couldn't have afforded it. With that said, Quinnair came in under the third company I interviewed who was only going to replace the furnace with an 80% unit. The installers were professional and stayed until 8 PM on the second day in order to finish the air conditioner installation and 7 PM to finish the jobs on the third day. All the jobs were completed in a timely manner and I can sense a huge improvement. I am very pleased with this company and their dedication to their customers and the local community. I intend to hire Quinnair when I need to replace my water heater.

Following a quick search on social media, many of our neighbors recommended Emporia. They had a technician out to our house in less than two hours, who quickly diagnosed the problem. Nicholas was simply fantastic! He indicated that he could get the part we needed but couldn't likely come back until the following Monday. I told Nicholas that we were having our 5 month old grandson for the weekend and I was concerned how cold it would be for him. Nicholas thought about it for a moment and said something similare to, "I try to figure out a way to get this done." To do this, I think he had to get it cleared with his boss since it would likely require him to work late. Sure enough, later that afternoon, Nicholas returned and fixed the furnace. We are so impressed with Nicholas and Emporia. I feel very comfortable recommending Emporia to anyone, and if you can get Nicholas - even better. While the technicians themselves were friendly, my overall experience with Summit was disappointing…read more-- particularly given that they had been highly recommended by a neighbor. After the fourth visit and two failed inspections, I asked to speak with the owner. He said he'd show up on the final day and didn't. Not showing up after committing to do so speaks volumes. On multiple occasions, employees attempted to -- or did -- walk through my home beyond where work was being completed with their shoes on. This is a basic courtesy that should not have needed to be addressed. On the final day, an employee complained about the time spent waiting for the inspector to arrive. After five+ weeks of doing exactly that myself, I couldn't help but laugh internally. Most importantly, Summit advertises a "100% Right or 100% Free" guarantee on their website. These are not complicated words -- 100% means 100%, and free means free. There is no secondary meaning to either. When I raised this, I was told it essentially means they will keep trying until the job is done correctly -- which is admirable in theory, but falls well short of what "100% Free" implies when a customer has invested THOUSANDS of dollars. After reading the other reviews, I'm hoping the problem with my AC wasn't just a leak somewhere that could have been fixed for much less. I would strongly encourage potential customers to clarify what that guarantee truly means before signing a contract, and to get everything in writing.

However, this last experience was absolutely awful and so unlike any other interaction and service we've received from this company. We needed our pellet stove fixed and it took SEVERAL appointments for them to send a technician out to fix it. Here are our frustrations/complaints that has left such a bad taste in our mouth. 1. Disorganized. When we would call the office, it was impossible to reach someone and when we eventually would, the same person would say she couldn't help us because she didn't know where our file was. This happened on MULTIPLE occasions and we've been a customer for over 5 years! 2. Contradictory Information. First, we were told that we would have to install a flue ourselves, but then received a call a week or so later, asking when they could book a time to install it. We told them that we were told that WE would have to install it and needed clarification. In the end, they confirmed that it was our responsibility to install the flue. Here's where the most frustrating part comes. One of the technicians that came to our house to fix the pellet stove told us the length and direction the flue should be, writing down the parts we would need. Then, on a subsequent visit (since the pellet stove was STILL not working), we were told the flue was too horizontal, so we changed it. On another visit and with a 3rd technician, we were told that we couldn't have a T and had to have the flue come straight out. Why would your technician suggest we take the flue the other direction we had planned and to keep it short after we would be putting in the 90 degree turn!? Why didn't he tell me you cannot have a T or 90 degree turn when he wrote down the pieces himself that we needed and then allowed us to order them. And how ethical is it to allow customers to purchase something through you that is eventually determined to be the cause of the stove not functioning!? As per the receipts, we paid $641.60 (-$47.80) = $593.83 for something your company eventually said we cannot use. 3. Bad Pellets. We assumed that one of the technicians took the pellets from his truck, because instead of using the pellets we had next the the stove (that are dry and new), we found a bag of bad fuel outside in the back of our house. We store our pellets in our basement storage room and in a bucket next to our stove. The pellets that were in my stove were filled by your technician after we had to leave. If the pellets were bad, why did he put them into the stove? And then, in a conversation with you, WE were the ones blamed for putting in bad pellets! Pocketing $600 and then placing the blame solely on the customer and giving contradictory information is not a great way to run a business. 4. Lastly, we were never given a breakdown of the cost, until we asked for it and it was vaguely written out in an email. We've always received invoices from you in the past! Our final straw, when we decided to get the Better Business Bureau involved was not when we believe you owe us a $600 refund, but when a month after the service debacle, we were told we have an overdue balance!!! It was cleared as a mistake once the BBB reached out to you. But this whole thing has been a stressful nightmare. I'm not sure WHAT has changed this past year, but it was a completely different service and experience than what we've had in the past. It's been incredibly frustrating and disappointing for our family. We were asked not to write a bad review, but I feel like as a business, it would be helpful for you to know why we are upset. We've been nothing but patient and understanding, even in so many moments of frustration and that amount of times you had to send technicians out to figure out what was wrong with our pellet stove.

But I had a great experience today with Cool Heat Mechanical Systems in Denver. My house has two furnaces, both of which needed a check-up and filter change. A friend recommended Cool Heat and I was so glad they had. Paul, the owner, was completely professional, very knowledgeable, and ***gave us one the fairest price*** I've ever gotten from an HVAC firm. The cost for checking both furnaces thoroughly, replacing the filters, running carbon monoxide tests, and spending several minutes talking to us about our furnaces was only $134 which included travel time. We now have smoothly running furnaces, more knowledge than we ever would have had about the age and condition of our HVAC equipment, and the peace of mind to know everything is working well. I would recommend this company to anybody. I'm sure you'll have as positive an experience as I did.

One of my neighbors recommended Cool Heat, so I gave them a call on Friday afternoon around 3:30PM, thinking I'd get a call back next week. He was wrapping up another service call in the area, so came right over in about 30 minutes. He was GREAT! Our HVAC was frozen up with gunk and he cleaned it all up. He did confirm our suspicions about our ducting system - woefully under trunked (old 4" ducts) with lots of breaks. He gave us a reasonable price for upgrading, but recommended that we don't need to do it now. So, we'll now be able to save the money for that project (that we suspected we should have done 4 years ago when we installed our new units). Thankfully, he confirmed that our actual equipment was great and that there is no need to replace those. (My fear was always that someone would come in and recommend a whole new system). Best $125 ever spent - an hour on site to fix us up! We will definitely be hiring Cool Heat to come back to upgrade our ducting later this year! As a bonus, he also services Rinnai water heaters - because we live in Englewood (hard water), we need to get it serviced. I've gotten outrageous quotes for that in the past - his quote is substantially lower than everyone else, so I'll have him to that, too.
