What's a straight haired chick doing at a salon for curly haired women you ask? Well, I got a free gift certificate for a hair cut and hair treatment courtesy of my boyfriend, who had inadvertently won this bodacious prize at a networking event. Knowing he couldn't use it, he passed it on to me. Yay! Anyone with hair and female can definitely appreciate free when it comes to hair. The prices we pay for highlights, styling, hair products, cut, color. It's crazy. Walking in, this was a very artsy type salon to me. When I learned a little more about the salon, I see why. They offer makeup and they even have a studio for photography. Everyone that worked there seemed very fashion forward. The staff was very nice. Christina did my hair cut, and her assistant did everything else. The avocado mango mask was heavenly. It felt so nourishing to my hair, and then they put this hair cap on you and stick you under a dryer only it lets out steam. It seriously felt like a facial for your hair. It was awesome, and my hair smelled so good after I was done. I wish I could have that done once a week! My haircut was fine, nothing special, but I had just wanted a good trim. It feels a bit short, but I'm sure my ends needed it. They have the coolest wash area I've ever seen. You lay on bed-like pad, no chair! It has a rest for the back of your knees. It's the most comfortable way to get your hair shampooed ever! I loved it! Oh, and the hair products are from the UK, because Christina said the American products have ingredients that aren't good for your hair. There was one she used called Jungle Fever. It smelled soooo good! They also have little snacks, and even serve wine and soft drinks. Great way to unwind while you are getting your hair done. All in all, a great experience. I liked this salon. It doesn't cater so much to me with my straight hair, but that doesn't mean you can't come here. I think I should bring my daughter next time, and get another avocado treatment. Heavenly! Update for over a year later: I stand by my original review. If you're a girl with long curly hair and you're concerned about loosing your length you should know what happened to me. If you still want to try out a Deva cut, go for it. It may be for you. But I would recommend you be extremely clear about how much length your stylist is allowed to cut off. If you don't make yourself clear you could walk away 6 inches lighter. I did contact the salon immediately about the cut. I was crying before I even walked out the door. They did not charge me for services that day and had a manager come over and "fix" my cut. They also offered for me to come back in a couple months for them to keep trying to fix it, but since they butchered my hair so badly in the first place I would never trust them again. At the end of the day they still chopped off 6 inches of my hair and it did take me over a year to grow it back. Look at the photos. For any of you out there with long curly hair still reading this and searching for someone you can trust to cut your hair: message me. I'm sad to give Harmony a 2 star review. I was really excited to try it and was looking forward to my first Deva cut in the Atlanta area. I rarely write negative reviews, but I think it's important to see all sides. I previously went to a Deva-trained stylist in the Bay Area where I had a great experience with both the stylist and products. So I know what to expect. When I asked for pricing, I found out that the haircut at Harmony would cost more. But I only get my hair cut a few times a year and really wanted a nice experience. At $70 I feel there should be a good amount of time with a new client for a consultation and other education, as well as a good hair cut. Well, I was disappointed from the get-go. I filled out a lengthy form and told Anya that I wanted to keep my length but shape things up and get a better idea of which products are good for curly girls in the GA humidity. She just started cutting without telling me what she was going to do and she cut me some weird pseudo bangs and a fringe around my face. Other than that, I'm not sure wtf happened. Most of my time was spent under the dryer and with an assistant. I knew something was off when I walked out. I didn't feel that "wow, I feel great!" feeling. I waited to write this because I thought it could just be me having overly high expectations, but I went to another salon and the hairdresser commented on the weird shaping and how one side was longer than the other (after 4+ months of growth). She said it had nothing to do with it being dry cut in the Deva method. It was just uneven and not shaped at all. The lack of attention to me, the poor quality cut, and the strip mall atmosphere aren't worth the cost. I'm a busy mom and don't have time to go back and have someone fix something that should have been done properly the first time. 46 years with my kinky curly hair, and I'd so far only ever found two people who actually know how to cut it. And I'd go to Montana for someone who does. Haarmony was recommended by a fellow curly girl and her hair looked great so I was at least cautiously optimistic, but - you know - I was also prepared to walk out if met with another waving hand and, "oh sure, we cut curly hair" assurances! But none of that. I explained my situation, shared a few pics, and was heard. Christina spent, really, very little time "cleaning up" the remnants of my last bad haircut, and clearly listened to what I wanted, could envision and communicate it, and then - MAGIC!! My hair is back. In under 30 minutes. I haven't even washed it again yet, but it is so obviously improved and well shaped. I am thrilled. I'll be back again in a few weeks to repair the colour and tweak the cut once more. And Haarmony will be the only place to lay scissors to this mane. Anya is a miracle worker! I was at a loss with what to do with my hair -- it was frizzy, overgrown and unmanageable. The first thing we did was take a before photo in the tiny photo studio in the salon. I tried hard to work my resting bitch face, but you could probably tell that I was holding back some giggles. Then, we got to real business. Since my hair is curly, Anya cut it dry. This is huge because as all curly girls know, cutting our hair wet is one of the worst things to do. Shrinkage is no joke. Cutting curly hair wet always leads to tears and disappointment as soon as it dries. So, when Anya cut my hair while it was dry, I was able to really see how my hair was shaping up. She cut it right and gave it shape. She next washed my hair using Deva products. I had never used this brand before, but I was amazed by how nice both the shampoo and conditioner smelled and felt. My hair absorbed the products well, and I ended up buying them at the salon. After drying with a non-towel (towel-drying leads to frizziness), I sat under a dryer for about 25 minutes. When my hair was dry, Anya did some retouching and totally perfected my do. No more frizzies, and it was totally manageable with great shape. She then proceeded with the make-up application. This was unexpected. I was thrilled and felt like a new woman after she was finished. It was then time for the after photo, and that smile stayed on my face for the rest of the day! This was my first time visiting Haarmony Hair, and I was not disappointed. The salon is clean and the stylists are courteous and respectful to their clients. The clients are diverse in both age and race, and some were obviously regulars to the salon. Being a first-time patron, I was slightly annoyed that I had to make an appointment during normal work hours because Atlanta traffic doesn't play, and work is work is work. As a woman of mixed African American and Asian descent, it is hard to get a good hair cut. I have searched high and low, and I am proud to say I have found my new salon :) I am in absolute love with my haircut! I cannot rave enough about how ANJA professionally cut my very curly hair! Anja did not look discouraged by the amount of hair I had and thoroughly took her time cutting section by section, so that my hair had a shape perfect for my curls. I could not have asked for a better esthetician. Anja listened to my current hair regimen and suggested better options, without pushing products on me or belittling my current regimen. Bar none, the best hair cut I have ever had. I have long, blonde curly hair, and I hardly EVER wore it down because it was dry, frizzy and would get "poofy." But Haarmony changed all of that. I moved to Roswell and was in need of a haircut. I saw the Haarmony sign and decided to look them up. The prices seemed expensive so I put it off. However, soon after I was complimenting the hair of another curly friend of mine and she said "You haven't had a Deva cut? You have to, it will change your life!" How could I not get one after such a declaration? I called Haarmony and made an appointment. The Deva cut (and Anya, the stylist) did in fact change my (hair) life. Anya was friendly, personable and great at explaining how I SHOULD be doing my hair. I left the salon feeling like I had a great cut; but it is in the days, weeks and now months after, that I truly appreciate the cut. I wear my hair down most days now, my curls are soft and spiral, and I get compliments all of the time! I use the Deva Care Low-Poo shampoo, DevaCare One Condition, DevaCurl Ultra Defining Gel and the DevaCurl Set It Free spray. I think the products are part of the reason my curls look so great, but the biggest reason is the cut itself. I can't even begin to describe how impressed I am with the cut, Haarmony and Anya and how much my hair has changed for the better! It's been three months since my first Deva cut, and my curls still look great. As for price, Haarmony is not cheap. But you get what you pay for. And most of us curly girls don't need our hair cut more than every three or so months. Since I saw Anya, my cut wasn't as expensive as what I had prepared myself for (thinking $100+). Had my first appointment with Ana. She was great, very professional, on time and friendly. The facility is clean and easy to find. I got a deva cut and color. My cut is FANTASTIC. My only issue is Ana's lack of color help. I wish she had been more vocal about the type of color I should consider. I asked for advice and she was very reluctant. Where do I begin . . . when I walked in, the receptionist asked that I fill out the "forms". They asked questions about what type of hair do you have, washing amount, how do you see yourself. I put "classic" for this. My hairstylist was Joie and when she came over I explained four issues I was having: 1. Like the length in the back but I needed it shaped up and stacked. 2. Had a thinning area in the left front of hairline 3. Too long on top 4. Front bangs had a tendency to curl forward This is what I got: 1. Everything cut off the back to about 1/4 to 1/2 inch. At no time did Joie say she needed to take the length completely off to stack it! 2 After drying my hair, they spun me around and woo, my thinning spot was front and center. 3. Did not cut much off the top. 4. My front "bangs" looked they had just come out of sponge curler, and yes they were curling forward. After all of that, they talked me into buying 3 products which were way overpriced and do nothing extra for my hair. Having fine hair and adding 3 products makes me look like a drowned rat. Two weeks go by and I just got my first complement . . . well, not actually, more of a "you've changed your hair". Will now have to crawl back to my hairdresser of 12 years. Thought I would branch out and see what was out there . . . Nothing really! read more

It's been a year since my appointment with the salon. It was the weekend of prom and I was looking to do a big chop. I assured my stylist I was okay with a short length, but I wanted it to be a cohesive cut and most importantly blonde. I even brought pictures in, which my stylist assured me he could achieve (I think his name was Chad). After a 4.5 hour appointment (I stayed after closing) I left with an unfinished cut and color. I tried to get a refund for this $200 travesty and I was told I HAD to allow them to "try again" before a refund. Prom was the very next day so obviously that wasn't an option. In the end I made an emergency appointment else where and spent a total of $350 on a below par experience. I am only posting the pictures now because I'm finally comfortable with myself and the progress I've made since this disaster. Keep in mind you are supposed to leave a salon with a FINISHED style. I am only giving 2 stars because I did not mind the cut I received, but if you are looking for the full on deva curl effect I would say go else where. Especially if you have tighter curly hair. I showed a picture of the highlights I wanted , in the pintura style, was made aware that because my hair was damaged that she wouldn't be able to do all of my head which I was fine with but said I wanted a very subtle look.. her assistant barely out any product through my hair.. for a first time deva cut customer nothing was explained to me as to what products were being used.. came out of the burning dryer with extremely crunchy hair I noticed a curl had burned off and was on the floor.. my hair had stringy blonde highlights. I was on the verge of tears and told them I didn't like it. Christina said she wasn't expecting the color to get that light because of the oil in my hair.. but since I am not a confrontational person it took me a second to let them know I hated it. And she was going to allow me out the store looking a mess. She redid it seeing the picture once more went through the process of again not having product thoroughly placed through my hair, then looked in the mirror and my head had orange strings of "highlights". Was there for 6 hours paid a crap ton of money just to go home trim it myself and dye it back to black..would not recommend.. I'm aware I could've gone back but honestly was not trying to come back out even worse. I know she wasn't proud of the work she did because she took a whole bunch of before pictures and had me put on makeup just to have me walk out the door with no after shot.Disappointing. read more

I recently got to experience having my hair colored and conditioned at Haarmony Salon and the experience was awesome! I had driven by many times and always wanted to try the salon as I have curly hair (they are curl specialists!) and if it's not cut properly I end up having to wear it up for weeks while it grows back. Anya and Christina were very attentive to my desires and actually LISTENED when I told them what I wanted to achieve. I am trying to grow my hair and usually when I say "just a trim" I get hacked anyway as if the stylist thinks they're being paid by the inch! I just straightened it this weekend for the first time since having it colored (since you can leave with the deep conditioner still in your hair to penetrate overnight) and the color looks great! I was slightly concerned about how the roots might blend since I specifically asked them not to apply the chemicals to my scalp since I'm studying toxicity but it came out perfect! I couldn't be more pleased - will definitely be back and recommend anyone to go give it a try - at least for the conditioning (my hair is STILL SUPER SILKY even after several shampoos) if you aren't quite ready to cheat on your main stylist!! =) Also, not sure why Yelp is not displaying all the other great reviews but there are plenty more hidden here and on their website also! =) read more

I've been a client of Haaronmy for over 12 years. Christina does my cut and color. I have been impressed with Christina's abilily from the beginning of our relationship. While it's true that sometimes there is a wait, it is only because Christina does not let anyone leave the salon without thoroughly checking them to make sure everything is right! I bring a book! I recently had surgery and went into panic mode when I had a slight amount of hair loss in front of my hair line. I came in to Christina. This is the worst haircut I've ever had in my life. It ranks up there with a haircut I gave myself with kitchen scissors when I was in fourth grade. I did a lot of searching before I landed upon this salon. My searches started on Pinterest looking for curly hairstyles. I identified at least 10 different hairstyles of varying lengths thicknesses and curl patterns to make sure I had a representative sample of styles I like so I could show them to the stylist. I understand that not all styles work on all hair types so I wanted to be prepared. During my search I stumbled upon this concept of Devacuts for curly hair and discovered that Haarmony salon was just down the street from me. My mom who has very short curly hair was looking for someplace to get her haircut while her regular stylist was out on medical leave. I was excited to tell her about my find. She made her appointment and saw Anya. She was lukewarm about the results. She felt that her hair didn't look any better or worse than it normally did but wasn't worth the price of the $70 cut. She did say that it was nice and curly and very soft when she left though and that one of the customers who had very long curly hair looked gorgeous when she left so we decided that maybe they did better with long hair. I walked in to the salon to make my appointment. I spoke with the receptionist who told me to come with my hair natural and curly so that they could see how it behaves normally. She told me there were two stylists that did the Deva cuts. I asked her which one she did better a better job with long hair and she said they both were great but that my mom had seen Anya. I figured since my mom was not thrilled with her cut I wanted to see the other diva stylist who trained Anya. I made my appointment several weeks out and eagerly anticipated it. When I arrived there must've been some sort of mixup in the scheduling because I ended up with Anya even though I clearly recall scheduling with the other stylist. The receptionist told me I was wrong. From this point it was pretty much straight downhill. Anya looked at the pictures I saved from Pinterest and gave me all kinds of excuses why my hair would never look like the pictures. She also said that all the pictures were so different so what was it that I wanted. We ended up agreeing to a long layered cut. But even after she started she still kept giving me reasons why it wouldn't look like that. She told me that I would have to take off some length... My hair was down to my lower back. I said that was fine. She cut off about 6 inches. She then cut so many layers in my hair that when I put it back in a ponytail I literally look like Moe from the Three Stooges due to the 3 inches long section of hair around the entire crown of my head. If that's not bad enough the front/bangs are 5-6 inches long to make the cut look even stranger. It took me years to grow my hair the way it was and it will take me years to grow out this disaster. The only positive of the entire experience was the very sweet friendly and professional girl Jashley who washed my hair and explained all the products that she was using on it and what those products would do. That said I can't tell that any of the products did anything to my hair except make it feel heavy sticky and frizzy. Combine that with the hour plus of hair drying I couldn't wait to get out of that place and wash it just to see what things looked like. Anya kept asking me what I didn't like about it.... at the time I thought it just had too much product in it and I wanted to get home to wash it. I was hesitant to get my hair cut, but I heard wonderful things about the Deva cut. I decided that I would just walk in and get my hair cut. Chad looked at my hair and stated that he could cut my hair before his next appointment. Chad did an amazing job on my hair, he listened to what I wanted and gave me a precision hair cut. I had my hair cut over a week. If you want to keep your curl length and still have hair health and a good shape DO NOT go to Haarmony salon. I won't go to this salon again as I rather get the cut that I want and have the healthy defined look that I want too - all are nothing when it comes to my hair. I came into the salon uncertain if I wanted to go short or add soft layers that rounded out my current cut. I wanted a change from my long 3b-3c curls - past my bra strap when straight - to a cut with more shape and body at the crown. After showing Anya two very different styles and sharing my concerns, she quickly agreed that I was NOT ready for the "big chop" and that I should stick with the longer layers for now. Initially I thought that she understood my curly hair concerns - health, length retention, and a soft layered look. She said my hair was healthy and that I had great curls. With that said, she would only take two inches off the back and go a little shorter on the top where my hair was thinner. As I watched her cut I sat patiently putting my hair and heart in her hands. She cut my hair dry like I have had done many times before moving to Atlanta. When she was done cutting and I stood up to look at my hair I was so disappointed. I just wanted to get out of the salon. She started putting more product on my hair and making it frizzier. She wanted to cut more to even out the right side. She said if I left as it was, without a shampoo, the cost would only be $40 but when she saw my face she suggested she wash my hair and I sit under the dryer. The dryer was so hot that it burned my scalp. After about 30 minutes I had to ask her to please turn the heat down. I sat for another 20 minutes and then she diffused my hair. My hair was so flat but when she had me bend over to shake it just became a cute, defined, soft afro that barely reached my shoulders. That look works for some but that was not the cut I requested. How could this happen after growing my hair out for over a year? How could a Deva Cut "specialist" make such a big mistake? I paid $72 for this cut even after expressing my unhappiness. Yes, I refused to let her "fix" my hair by cutting more. That is completely unreasonable regardless of how it is worded. The studio is clean and the massage was nice but my hair cut was nothing near the pictures I showed her. I received a short, curly mullet with very irregular layers. I lost about 4-5 inches off the back and 6-7 off the top. My long ponytail turned into a little puffball it was cut so short. It reminded me of a soft, texturized afro. I had the pleasure of getting my haircut and styled last week, and I am so happy with my experience. Joie was a wonderful stylist, her personality made the experience but her talent made me feel like a million bucks when I left. After reading all the good reviews, and knowing that Christina has one of the highest training levels in the area for Deva cuts. I guess my expectations were too high. I walked in and was asked to feel out some paperwork on my hair, products I use, and how I style my hair but then was left for very long time to wait. Christina was finishing what I thought was one client but actually she was running around working on two other people. When she finally sat me down to go over my papers that I filled out and my hairstyle, it was fast and in a hurry. Probably, because as we were discussing my hair another client came in and she sat him down and started talking and then came back to me and started cutting my hair very erractic and fast. Next, thing I knew I was getting my hair washed by someone else and then sat under a dryer for so long my scalp started to getting way too hot!! Finally, after Christina sees me starting to get up she brings me over to her chair, checks my haircut, and makes a couple cuts and that was it!! The office said they had some client emergencies that day and that was the reason for some of the chaos. So, if you want an apt. where you feel like your hairstylist is more interested in other established clients throughout the salon during your apt., rushed, and after you get home and look in the mirror more than once to find one side is longer than the other, well good luck. I thought I researched Cristina & Haarmany well. I read RAVE reviews on Cristina the owner. However, I should have looked at the website pix closer & realized they all had the same cut. If you have tight curls this is probably the place for you. Cristina and her assistant were kind, enjoyable, sweet, social women. I purchased acceptable products from them & left a huge tip. The bad news - My haircut was awful. I specifically requested no soccer mom haircut. I received an 80's style shag cut - even though I said I was growing it out she cut the top back to less than two inches.... Now, three weeks later my "bangs" are still horrible circles I can barely gel into a modicum style. She left tons of hair at my ears that wing out like horsetails on both sides. I never called and said how Bad it was because there is no way anyone who cuts my hair into wings & C's can EVER cut it correctly for wavy curly hair. I needed a "S" curl cut and I received the "C" wings that never develop into an S - this is why I am terified of hair stylist. For me with loose WILD curls I never know what kind of a cut i will get. I just wish I had read these reviews on YELP first. Once again - the folks were wonderful, I loved talking to them, but I think Cristina clearly does not understand the LONG CURL that goes with wavy curly hair. read more
