So, I've been going to the same hair salon in my hometown for 20 years. When I moved to Atlanta, it took me a long time to find a salon that I loved. The first time I walked into the salon, you would've thought I had been there for years. They were very intentional, have a great eye for what will look good on you personally, and they are so easy to talk to you. I go to Lorelei, and I've never had a better cut and color. She's incredibly sweet, knows exactly what she's doing, and so fun to talk to. I can't recommend this place enough. Also, everyone else who works in the salon also helps out along the way and compliments your stylist and your hair throughout the process. Female owner is so loud and her laugh will pierce your eardrums. Male owner is dismissive and a bit rude. They also have "assistants" that will dry your hair and attempt to style it, but it is exceedingly clear that they do not know what they are doing. read more

I tried to like it. I wanted to. It just didn't happen. My color fell out in three weeks. I will not be going back. The guy that did my hair wasn't friendly at all and when I tried to make conversation he replied in a word if that. When he asked if I had kids and I said no he made a face and stayed quiet the remainder of the time. When the color was done I asked to see if we can make it brighter he said no next time. Bad service. When I was getting a consultation with the older woman she talked to me as if I had never had a haircut before and when she was drying my hair I had to hold my breath because she needed to reapply some deodorant. Would be zero stars, but that's not an option. My wife came home in tears because of the extremely RUDE "manager" of this place. She tried them FOUR times, at $140 each, and the stylists screwed it up every time. Color was wrong, cut was wrong, did not follow instructions and used cheap products that caused her hair to break off. * Side note: the stylist was generally trying, she just did not understand or had not been trained properly. This is not her fault. But not only did they screw up her hair, but the customer service after the bad experience is what made this crappy place worthy of zero stars. PLEASE AVOID this place if you want a good quality cut and color. My wife takes EXCELLENT care of hair and is very easy to please. Ask ANY of the stylists she's had in the past (we can provide names and numbers). The manager actually followed my wife out into the parking lot like a redneck at Walmart trying to start a fight and told her "Don't you ever come back to this place again!" She actually referred to my wife, the customer, as "Missy", in a sarcastic southern tone. WTH??? Duh! She, nor any other person we can pass this along to, will EVER step foot in this "salon" again. I'm very disappointed in the haircut I received. I went along with what the stylist recommended because she is the professional and hair grows back quickly so what's to lose. well, I've ended up with a haircut that makes me look like a polite old woman, which would be fine if I was like 80 years old! but I'm not. my spunky style is gone and in its place is a church lady. :( additionally, my stylist was attempting to (and failing at) servicing 3 clients at once. she obviously could give none of us our full attention and this was disappointing. I was made to wait for about a half hour after my appointment time until she even spoke with me--and this was during the evening when the salon was not busy. then she would spend about 5 minutes with me and flit off to another client leaving me to sit there. I will now have to find time and pay to go get my hair reshaped by somebody who knows what they're doing and can give me their undivided attention. that's the least that I expect when I'm spending money at a salon/spa. read more

Angie and Douglas are classically trained hair artisans, amazing small business owners, wonderful community contributors with stellar reputations. I've gone there for 5+ years and never a bad experience. I'm not sure why I didn't write a rave review for Salon de la Vie before but I know why I am now. Another client told me about an outrageous customer who insulted the staff with totally disrespectful language in front of other customers then posted to Yelp. Hair can be emotional but so is making your livelihood by building an amazing business through positive word of mouth. This one 2nd hand review speaks to service that is the opposite of all that I have seen from Angie or the team. IF Angie were ever slightly rude, it must have taken a ton of abuse to provoke it. I'm not sure why someone would go somewhere they thought was overpriced to get a haircut they did not like 3x, before losing one's cool on the fourth. This is one of the best hair salons I've visited. I see Becca - she is amazing. She listens and understands exactly what you need, she is very friendly and super sweet. I knew I would come back after my very first visit. About the salon: all of the staff are super friendly. The folks are courteous and ready to help a fellow co-worker, they are like one big, happy family. Team work is what makes a difference. What's special about this place: First, the friendly staff. Second, my hair is color resistant and it's hard to find a color that completely sticks and doesn't fade quickly after a few washes. This place has what I need. Heads up to curly girls: the styling of my curly hair (not by Ashley) was kind of a mess and left a lot to be desired, but it wasn't anything I couldn't fix at home. I used to go to Salon de la Vie primarily for a haircut with Sarah. She left for maternity and came back part time. I was always pleased with the result and would come back every few months. Becca is also very good with the cutting process. Then I began to get my hair colored a few times and was very disappointed each time, as the color would fade quickly and I kept giving it a chance, but same result, no matter which stylist . I explained about the color fading and was not compensated in any way.. (Doulas colored it once) He didn't listen and the results we're not good...too blonde and brassy. Each time or process it was just so-so. I have naturally medium blonde hair which has become grey, so I get a base color treatment, then foil highlights. I'm never going back! They are SOOO EXPENSIVE!!! especially if Angie cuts the hair or Douglas does the coloring. They seem like nice people, but my hair color has never been quite right and again fades too quickly - I am diligent about the shampoo/conditioner for color treated hair, so this should not happen. I've since been to Bob Steele salon twice. The cut was terrible, but the color lasted longer...with both the low-lights process and the other I mentioned. But the cost??? Where do these salons think they are?... NYC?? read more

We had such a wonderful experience at Salon de la Vie on my daughter's wedding day! We worried where our large wedding party (10 bridesmaids) would get hair and make-up done and be ready at church at 2:00 p.m. that day. This salon was perfect and did such a wonderful job on all of our hair and makeup. The large area here allowed us to move around and socialize. We also had an area for food and drink. The staff was extremely accommodating, and this time was one of the highlights of my daughter's big day. Many commented at the service and reception how beautiful everyone looked.
