I was thrilled to find GINA MENDIOLA at Haartek after her previous salon closed without notice. I tried to find a substitute colourist and stylist elsewhere for my long blonde hair which only received compliments when GINA started to do my colour and styling. I tried a few local salons and instead it became brassy and dull. I got lucky and found out that GINA joined Haartek which is a lovely salon and in the same neighbourhood. DO NOT COME HERE for hair coloring! Terrible experience! Rewarded 0.5 star for: - Clean, bright, spacious, conveniently located. Deducted 4.5 stars for: - Patchy, uneven dye job - Being ganged up on, not listened to, repeatedly brushed off, unprofessional communication - Not cleaning dye stains off my skin - Money driven instead of customer focused Haartek does not care how their customers look, they only care about how much money they can extract from them. They do not stand behind their work and they do not think that customer dissatisfaction is their problem. Came for color and cut, after paying $678 (300 for color, 200 for bleach, 100 for cut + tax), I left with a patchy, uneven dye job. There are patches of light and dark to almost black in the midsection (see pictures). When I asked why my hair turned out so patchy, my stylist became aggressive, then asked her colleague to join her in dismissing my simple query and I was told in a condescending & authoritative tone, "it's just how this dye works, you have to come back for a second dye for $200 to even out anddeepen the color". They never addressed or explained why my hair has light and black patches in the midsection. Their attitude was defensive. One of the stylists brushed off my dissatisfaction saying "no body will see it unless they look at your hair up close." What an ignorant comment as I do not color my hair for other people, I do it for myself! They essentially admitted that the outcome was poor however, they did not care that it bothered me. I was ganged up on and made to feel as thought I was wrong for advocating for myself and questioning the poor job they did, it was very insulting and dismissive. This was the 5th time dying my hair the same shade of purple and whenever I was not pleased with anything, the salon would always fix it for free. The fact that Haartek wants to charge to fix their errors and poor methods is very unprofessional. What also seemed inappropriate and unethical, was being told, while I was already sitting in their chair, that if I wanted bleach from the roots there would be an extra fee, which surprised me because the bleach already cost $200! I felt pressured so I opted out. In hindsight, I wish I paid the extra fee because my black roots are already showing - to the extent that it looks like 1 month of growth. When $200 was charged for bleach, root bleaching should be an option, not an extra fee. I would have appreciated being told of any surcharges at the time of booking instead of while I am seated in the chair with the process initiated - my ability to make an informed decision was taken away from me. Also, the dye job left stains along the sides of my face, ears and neck. Elumen does carry a product to remove dye from skin, my previous salon would clean me with it. When I asked (yes - I had to ask to be cleaned up), they told me to try face toner, nail polish remover, hand sanitizer and rubbing alcohol at home. After trying multiple options without success, I soaked a cotton pad with rubbing alcohol and rubbed my temple. I regretted it instantly as it stinged, dried out and irritated my skin and the alcohol fumes irritated my eyes which caused them too water. I mistakenly rubbed my eyes, developed eyelids dermatitis, and had to see a doctor! To add insult to injury, I got a call the next day from the stylist, saying she spoke with the owner and to fix the poor dye job, they would take $100 off the usual $200 charge, but only if I returned within 2 weeks. I said I needed to think about it. I declined the offer and decided to write this review instead. Last year they burned my hair using bleach that was too strong, my ends broke off every time I combed my hair. I had to comb over the sink otherwise the bathroom floor would be littered with broken off hair. Which is why you can see the texture of my hair look bad from the midsection to the ends in one of the photos posted. I should not have returned to Haartek, but I was lured by the convenience of the location. Big mistake! read more

I too have using the services of this Salon for around 15 years. The new management that took over breathed new vibrant life into it. They totally renovated the entire place making it one of the premier salons in the Yorkville area of Toronto. The owners and staff are simply magnificent. They understand what it means to go above and beyond for their customers expectations. One of the owners learned that I was at my cottage up north and even went out of his way to visit while he was in the area touching up mine and my daughters hair at no-charge! - Who would do that? I don't normally write reviews however when I saw the negative comments below I felt compelled to provide some positive and well deserved feedback. Retail space in the downtown core comes at a premium. I'm sure the owners would have been upfront with the cost to have your own personal makeup artist come into their salon. $75.00 is a bargain to have that privilege. They are operating a business not a charity and I think they were reasonable. Bring your own bottle of wine to a restaurant and ask if they will open it for you to drink. Should that service be free as well? Please ... lets not whine about such a thing especially when you got what you wanted. I bet your hair looked fabulous too however you forgot to mention anything about that. read more

I have gone to Haartek for a blow dry sporadically over the years when I am in the area. They always accommodate my last minute bookings and do a fantastic job. Recently there was some confusion with my billing (which I later realized was probably my own oversight). I spoke with Lisa who looked into the issue and spoke to the owner about it. They were polite and courteous and as a result of the misunderstanding they offered me a complimentary blow dry. I thought this was excellent customer service and I will continue as a happy customer as a result. read more

DON'T recommend it at all! I cut and colored my hair in this place twice. Both times I was not happy with my hair cut, the second time I saw someone who had more experience and they told me that she is their best, they also told me that they have a policy that they redo the haircut (free of charge) if the costumer is not happy with the haircut. The haircut was awful! (She literally just cut my hair in two minutes). I was not happy, I called them twice and at the end, they told me that I should pay half price for the redo!! This place is too expensive and you don't get a good haircut at the end. DON'T recommend it at all! read more

I only took the time to write a review because I had such a hard time finding a really good salon and stylist. This salon had a truly welcoming laid back feel. Olivia cut my hair, she was sincere, listened to me and took plenty of time to give me a great hair cut, exactly what I wanted. She made a couple good suggestions but was far from pushy or pretentious. Their hair products are amazing, my hair is damaged from previous processing but you would never guess it after cut and their products. She put body and beautiful layers back into my hair. I get my eyebrows waxed and tinted here on a regular. They are quick and professional, a bit on the pricey side. But this is Yorkville so I wouldn't expect any different. I went yesterday to get my hair done for the first time there and the girl serving me was so good. They close at 4 and she stayed until 445 almost finishing my curls. I have been going to the salon at this location (it used to be Haute Coiffure) for over 10 years. The stylist I see is great because he never pushes 'product' on me AND my hair can go for over 6 weeks without being done because the cut is so good (admittedly the colour needs work after that long). Also, it is a salon where you can ask for a consultation for free and if you don't like what you hear you can go somewhere else. I first went there when they did the cut-a-thon for Parkinsons - I recommend that as a good 'try out' if you're skittish about changing hair dressers - their nail girls are also great and reasonably priced. read more

I was offered an amazing cappuccino and I even got a 30% discount for being a post secondary student. I just got a haircut from this place and I'm a female with long hair. I am so angry about the way my hair was cut. I told Yulia (the hairdresser) that I wanted a V-cut that was long in the back and short in the front. She decided that she was going to ignore me and cut my hair without a V, just strait with very minimal layering. My hair now has no texture. I grew out my hair so I could get this specific hair cut and now I basically have to start all over. Not only that but for the entire appointment she kept complaining about how damaged my hair was. My hair is naturally thin and tends to split a lot at the ends which I understand, but I really didn't enjoy her going on and on about how I should take more care of my hair and lecturing me. Forget any ounce of a relaxed atmosphere. I can't say anything about the other hairdressers but stay away from this one. read more

This is an amazing salon, I was in Toronto for a month and I visited four times, that's how much I loved it. The hair care line that they use "Eufora" is just amazing. I got a hair color done by Melissa, hair cut by Naomi and a shampoo blow dry, style and set by Ela and all of them were great! Ended up buying a bunch of Eufora products and am so glad I got introduced to this line. read more

I've been going to this salon for 17 years now. My first hair stylist was really the only one that knew how to style my hair. After she left, I continued to go because the people were friendly, it was convenient for me, and the other stylist were pretty good. Then maybe 3-4 yrs ago, they switched management. I still continued to go as my stylist was still there, the old manager was working part time, and the new manager was a stylist previously. Hence to say I was very disappointed when I came in to do my hair on my wedding day, and they charged me for bringing in my makeup artist to use their space. It's not like they have their own make up artist that would be losing business or anything. It's just poor customer service. Not only have I been a loyal customer for 17 years, but I've referred so many people over that time. Needless to say I will not be recommending this place anymore. My wedding will also be featured in a highly read wedding magazine which I will NOT be giving a plug to this salon. There are so many other salons in the Toronto area where the stylists are on trend and the service is 10x better, for a lot less! Hope the $75 was worth it Haartek! read more

I recently visited this salon to get the Goldwell hair straightening treatment. I've had similar treatments before, but this was by far my best experience. The treatment was done by a stylist named Ela, who was really nice and knowledgeable. The treatment took about four hours, but I have a lot of hair. The salon had closed before I was done, but she never rushed the process, and because of that it turned out almost perfect. The staff was very nice and both of the owners made a point to come by to say hello. The treatment itself has reduced my drying time significantly, maybe by half or more. I have thick curly hair that has been colour treated, and there wasn't much additional damage, maybe some drying on the ends. I highly recommend this salon and this treatment specifically, if your looking for an alternative to the typical Japanese hair straightening. read more

I was given the opportunity to take part in a product launch for Gildwell hosted by the salon Haartek! Having had a bad experience 17 years ago with a similar product , I was dubious to say the least! However I am happy to report that my faith in hair smoothing products has been restored! I have had frizzy hair my whole life and developed carpal tunnel from all the one to two hour long blow dries it took to somewhat control the frizz! Well those days are long gone! My hair has never been smoother or shimmer and did I mention healthy!!! I love this product and would definitely recommend it ! The whole experience was made even more pleasurable by the staff at Haartek! They were friendly, professional and knowledgeable!
